This is the perfect quick-fire getaway for snow lovers in need of a backcountry fix. With remarkable
terrain right on our doorstep, our experienced guides will take you straight to their favourite local
haunts for an epic day of earning your turns. This is an ideal trip for those who wish to make the
most of a short window of adventure without the cost or time commitment of a longer trip.

TERRAIN
Bestowed with a great choice of backcountry skiing
areas all within a short drive from Wanaka and
Queenstown, your guide will be able to identify the
best location based on the conditions on the day.
For Queenstown-based trips, this will usually be the
Remarkables Range, only a 30-minute drive from
Frankton and for Wanaka-based trip we will usually
explore the backcountry behind the Cardrona or Treble
Cone ski fields.

While winter ski touring in the New Zealand mountains
requires good personal gear due to the potential cold
weather conditions, your regular ski clothing, bulked
up with some extra warm layers will normally suffice.
We will provide avalanche safety equipment, transceiver,
probe and shovel, but you will need to come prepared
with your ski touring equipment, personal clothing,
sleeping bag, sunscreen and water bottle.
There are a number of rental options available in
Wanaka and we can help you with sourcing rental of
specialised touring skis, boots and climbing skins. We
have snowshoes available for rent for snowboarders or Awe-inspiring terrain. Photo: Mark Watson

TRAVEL
For trips originating in Queenstown, please meet
your guide at 8.30am at the base of the Remarkables
Ski Field Road. Our Wanaka-based trips also begin at
8.30am from our office at 20 Brownston Street. Please
contact us if you have any difficulties with transport
and we can liaise with you about an appropriate pick
up time from you accommodation.
Air New Zealand and Qantas/Jetstar provide daily
services to Queenstown from Auckland, Wellington and

Queenstown and Wanaka (approximately one hour
driving time and at a cost from NZ$35 each way),

Bus services operate daily between Christchurch and
Wanaka (approximately 6 hours travel time).
FITNESS & HEALTH
To make the most of your experience we encourage
you to work on your fitness and skiing/snowboarding
prior to the trip. You should be a minimum of strong
