As we continue through the Lenten season, we can easily get caught up in our daily lives and forget the
true meaning of Lent: Prayer, Almsgiving and Fasting. Each year my husband and I ask our children
what they want to give up for Lent, this year, without hesitation, our daughter said “YouTube!” We
looked at each other in amazement and asked her if she was sure, she replied “I know I can do it!”, to
which we agreed and her older brother followed suit. We are proud as parents t o know that they are
giving up, or fasting, from something that they enjoy. By them working through this, we can share our
time together as a family.
Lent is a time to remind us of how one kind deed at a time brings us closer to being the person that God
wants us to be. Our students are exemplifying this by supporting our local homelessness organization,
“Out of the Cold Fort Frances”. Simple acts of kindness bring great joy to others and fill our own hearts
with love. We will continue this throughout our school by working on our Lenten Promises as well as
filling each other’s buckets with kind and encouraging words. As people of faith, we want to make this
world a better place by strengthening our bond with God and helping others in need. God’s love
becomes present and active by the way we love and by the good works that we do.
In March we continue to look forward to the many learning opportunities planned for the students.
Kindergarten registration also continues, please be sure the encourage families to attend Our Lady of
the Way, the small school with big heart! Although we will not be getting our break at tradition time in
March, we have many fun activities that we will be embarking on for our March Madness! I am not sure
who will be more excited about this, the staff or the students! Each day will be filled with fun activities
that we can look back on with a smile and amazing memories, often time we need to look on the bright
side!

We are very grateful that the cold weather has lifted and our students have returned
to the class. We missed having everyone in the school and are so happy everyone is
back. The students have been working hard since returning and are finishing up
some very exciting activities. For World Literacy Day, we read books that looked at
the different ways people around the world live. From this, they labelled a map and
found three interesting facts about each country we “visited”. The students have
learned some really fun things from many countries, for instance a lot of the planets
are named after Roman Gods.
In Social Studies, we are just finishing up our last unit that looks at the
contributions different groups have made to Canadian Identity over the years. We
have looked at the settlement of New France and the important relationships that
were forged between European Settlers and the First Nations in the areas. Next, we
will be moving to science and the changes of state and the properties of matter. We
will be doing some fun experiments, including building a lava lamp to see viscosity,
buoyancy and how different liquids interact with one another.
Now that we are in the season of Lent, this is a time where we open our hearts to
more love and opportunity. During this time, many decide to give something up for
the 40 days of Lent. Our students have done a variety of things, including giving up
some things but also adding new routines, like learning to draw or gratitude
journaling. We will also be using our Makerspace time to make hats, mittens,
scarves, and blankets to donate to the Out of the Cold Shelter in Fort Frances and
other organizations in our communities. We are looking forward to giving back to
our amazing community.

We are very excited to announce that our school will now be offering School Cash Online, which provides you with the
convenience of paying online 24/7 for school items such as trips, lunch items, etc.
Please register as follows after March 3rd:

Step 2: Register by selecting the “Get Started Now” and following the steps.
Step 3: After you receive the confirmation email, please select the “click here” option, login in and add each of your
children to your household account. To do this, you will need your student’s last name, first name, and date

We will be selling hoodies with our new school logo! Hoodies can be paid for by using school cash online, or by cash.
Hoodies will be $20 each for students. We will send out more information this week, so
please check out our Facebook page or watch for a school flyer.
