 DAY 12 (BLD) Wednesday 14th October, 2020
                                        UDAIPUR
This morning after breakfast we’ll enjoy a sightseeing tour of Udaipur. Included in this
tour is a visit to City Palace Museum. The jewel in the crown of the Udaipur City Palace
Complex. It is here that you can immerse yourself in the history of the Maharanas of
Mewar, and really get a feel for their culture and how royalty lived. We also visit Jagdish
Temple a large Hindu temple in the middle of Udaipur in Rajasthan, just outside the
royal palace. It has been in continuous worship since 1651. We also visit Sahelion Ki Bari
(Ladies Garden) it is a major garden and a popular tourist space that lies in the northern
part of the city and has fountains and kiosks, a lotus pool and marble elephants.
The miniature paintings we’ll see manage to display the raw but opulent culture of
Rajasthan with ease. The paintings are made using a rigorous process which involves
manufacture of the pigments and colours from scratch. Very often, these paintings
reflect real life events and are portrayals of such events. This will be a great experience
to see this age old art which proves that big is not always better. This afternoon we join a
boat cruise, enjoy up close views of the shimmering lake, epic mountains and the
stunning city skyline. Listen in as our local guide shares details about the surrounding
sites, which include the City Palace Complex and picturesque ghats—steps that lead to
the water for locals who wish to bathe in the natural waters. Check out a variety of
colourful waterbirds as we pass by Mohan Mandir, a popular perch for these winged
creatures. In addition to this up close look at nature, we’ll enjoy epic views of the
Sajjangarh palace, stationed in the distant hills. We also visit Jagmandir Palace also
called the "Lake Garden Palace". The construction of the palace was started in 1551 and
finally completed by Maharana Jagat Singh I (1628–1652). The royal family used the
palace as a summer resort. With its entrance flanked by a row of enormous stone
elephants, the island has an ornate 17th-century tower, the Gol Mahal, carved from
bluestone and containing a small exhibit on Jagmandir’s history, plus a garden and lovely
views across the lake. A grand way to finish our wonderful day in Udaipur.
