15-ICML - International Conference on Malignant Lymphoma
3
Welcome to 15–ICML
The International Conference on Malignant Lymphoma (ICML) has become, since its first edition in 1981, a
must-attend event for the scientific community involved in the study and treatment of lymphoid neoplasms.
Its growing success has required, over the years, quite important logistical changes (e.g. broadcast of
sessions in overflow rooms, parallel sessions in the nearby university and cinema), but has not changed
the main aim of ICML: to permit the presentation of the most recent data - basic, translational and clinical
- about lymphoma and the discussion among haematologists, clinical oncologists, radiation oncologists,
paediatricians, pathologists and leading researchers from all over the world.
Also the Organising Committee’s enthusiasm has not changed and, with the precious help of the many
colleagues and friends of the Advisory Board, we have already defined a very interesting frame of the
15-ICML scientific program.
The long lasting collaboration with the European School of Oncology (ESO) will continue, with the
organisation of the full immersion course on “Leukemia and Lymphoma”, held in Lugano just before our
conference, and with the inclusion of ICML in the Certificate of Competence in Lymphoma.
Also the cooperation with the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) continues and grows: we
feel honoured to collaborate with AACR friends, who will start a new adventure in holding a meeting on
malignant lymphoma in the USA.
We invite the submission of high-quality abstracts on all aspects of lymphoid neoplasms, including multiple
myeloma and CLL. The very short interval between the deadline of the abstract submission (March 15) and
the conference will allow the inclusion of abstracts reporting the most recent results.
As always, due to time constraints, only a limited number of abstracts can be selected for proffered papers
and, to assure a fair selection, all abstracts will be reviewed by at least 7 international experts.
We look forward to welcoming you to Lugano in June 2019.

              GENERAL INFORMATION

              Venue
The 15th International Conference on Malignant Lymphoma will take place in
the Lugano Convention Centre, Palazzo dei Congressi.
Palazzo dei Congressi is in the centre of the city (it’s a 10-minute walk from
the central railway station), but overlooks the beautiful city park (Parco Ciani)
and faces the lake of Lugano. Its rooms will host the scientific general sessions
              and the satellite symposia.
Some of “Meet the Professor”, “Focus on…” and other parallel sessions will
be held in additional large conference rooms which are 5-minute walk from the
main convention centre (Cinema Corso and University). The same halls serve
also as overflow rooms for the main sessions, held in Palazzo dei Congressi.
For the first time, it will be possible to submit questions to the speaker even
from the halls where sessions are broadcasted.
Lunches, coffee breaks, poster sessions and the commercial exhibition will
take place in the “Marquee Parco Ciani”, a large gazebo built in Parco Ciani,
overlooking the lakeshore and connected to Palazzo dei Congressi by a covered
              walkway.

                  TRAVEL ARRANGEMENTS
Lugano is situated in Ticino, the italian-speaking part of Switzerland, close to
                  the Italian border.
The city is well connected, both with regards to motorway as well as railway
networks, and it has several airports in the surroundings.
Lugano-Agno (LUG) airport is served by domestic flights departing from Geneva
(GVA) and Zurich (ZRH), the major Swiss international airport.
The train connection from Zurich airport (about 220 km from Lugano) is an
efficient and pleasant option: with the New Rail Link through the Alps, opened
in December 2016, the journey - through some of Switzerland’s most beautiful
landscapes and views – takes about 2 hours.
Please visit http://www.sbb.ch for prices, timetables and online bookings.
From June 2018 Lugano is also connected by train to Milan-Malpensa (MXP),
the closest international airport (about 60 km from Lugano, in Italy). The train
trip takes 1 hour and 45 minutes.
Please visit http://www.tilo.ch for prices and timetables.
Different bus connections (Giosy Tours-Malpensa Express CH, Lugano Services,
Jetbus) are also available and the shuttle trip takes about 1 hour.
Other options are Milan-Linate (LIN) and Bergamo-Orio al Serio (BGY) airports,
both in Italy, connected to Milan by bus and then to Lugano by train.

                  Private transfer services
Amiconi Consulting SA can be contacted to arrange private transfer services
from and to the airports (Milan-Linate, Milan-Malpensa, Bergamo-Orio al Serio
and Lugano-Agno) and in the city of Lugano and its surroundings, for both
                  individuals and groups.

                  (EHA).

Except for the above mentioned situations, during submission, first authors

to discuss the study in detail.
No Late-Breaking Abstract will be considered without the submission of the
placeholder abstract and the covering letter.

                      First author responsabilities
The submission of an abstract constitutes a formal commitment by the first

Clinical case discussion sessions have presenters of outstanding centers
addressing cases which are not trivial nor very rare, but rather situations
commonly encountered where the solution remains controversial. The format is
a sort of Europe vs. USA debate: we had Lysa (France) vs Mayo Clinic in 2013, FIL
(Italy) vs New York centers in 2015 and German vs Californian institutes in 2017.
In 2019 we will have the following Spanish vs Texan experts presenting cases
               and discussing the treatment options:
                1. HL: Ana Maria Sureda Balari vs Hun Ju Lee
                2. FL/Indolent Lymphoma: Mariano Provencio Pulla vs Loretta J. Nastoupil
                3. PTCL: Alejandro Martín vs Nathan H. Fowler
                4. DLBCL: Eva Giné Soca vs Jason R. Westin
                5. CLL: Julio Delgado vs Philip A. Thompson
                6. Clinico-pathological difficult cases: Armando Lopez-Guillermo vs Fredrick
                   B. Hagemeister
                7. Radiotherapy in lymphoma: TBD vs Bouthaina S. Dabaja
Ongoing trials presentation: this session will comprise abstracts describing trials
in progress. Conditions for being selected for presentation at this session are:
               –	already started enrolment,
               –	still possible accrual of new patients.
The session should not be regarded as an advertisement for new drugs. Trials
which are close to completion (i.e. not available for other possible participants)
and closed trials will not be considered for presentation.
               15-ICML Highlights
               “Take home messages”
               Speaker to be announced
               Special AACR-ICML session
After the 2015 and 2017 positive and fruitful experiences, AACR and ICML
will organize once again in 2019 a special joint session. The session will be
devoted to the role of pre-clinical models as bridges to early clinical phases.
Special sessions devoted to radiotherapy, organized in collaboration with ILROG
(International Lymphoma Radiation Oncology Group): two satellite workshops
open to all 15-ICML attendees will take place.
Details will be available closer to the event at www.lymphcon.ch.

IBSA Foundation for Scientific Research - Special Forum
As in 2017, when the event “Basic mechanisms of cancer immunotherapy”
took place, ICML participants will again have the possibility to join the IBSA
Foundation Special Forum. The forum will be organised in the University
Auditorium and the program will be defined in collaboration with the Foundation
for the Institute of Oncology Research (IOR).

IV International Workshop on Canine Lymphoma
This well-attended meeting fosters interdisciplinary contacts between
researchers studying lymphoma in canine and other species. The 2019 edition
will comprise an invited plenary lecture on a cutting-edge topic, an update on
the activities of the European Canine Lymphoma Network, a round table on
state-of-the-art on canine multicentric lymphoma staging, and, for the first
time, a session with free oral research presentations.
