Editor’s Note
The truth is none of us including myself ever imagined we will be
faced with a challenging year 2020. That plight is something all of
us have in common. While the other important element we have in
common is the ability to choose how to react during this difficult
time.
Fortunately, we are blessed to be in Malaysia, where the
government's actions in controlling the spread of the virus, is well
followed by the people. We are even luckier to witness the remarkable
work and contributions by our front liners in the nationwide effort
to alleviate the pandemic.
Likewise, at the beginning of the MCO, the OPA and our brothers from respective
associations joined hands to initiate a fundraiser to provide protective gears and
general supplies to hospitals, meals to front liners and to help others who are impacted
financially by COVID-19. Our social media too was flooded with updates and care
messages in kind as support for everyone to brave through these trying times. The
soaring feeling of empathy and unity is indeed the theme of our BOPA in this issue.
As we may not have been able to organize a lot of activities this year, we have
compiled photos and short notes under ‘In Brief’ section on updates at the Penthouse
while we were under the Movement Control Order (MCO).
We also would like to give our appreciation to the five leaders of the armed forces
who are all OPs’. In the article, Defending the Nation we showcase a brief profile of
each commanding leader. Hail to the 5 Chiefs!
In this issue, we are also excited to share an interview with OP Mudzamir Ong, report
on OP Ikatan Kasih, flashback of photos from our RMC days and editorial snippets
from the book “I Remember: Reminiscences of FMC Budak Boys”.
A few of the Old Puteras also contributed their writing skills in this issue. They
include OP Mahindra Raj on success mindset and OP Azrul Nazim on personal branding.
OP Razi Pahlavi wrote an article on the importance of AI during COVID-19. Apart from
that, Op Johari Yap and OP Mirnawan Nawawi shared their journey as Budak Boy.
Finally, I would like to take this opportunity to express my gratitude to the President
of OPA, OP Baha and the rest of my colleagues in the EXCO line-up as well as other OPs
for their effort, advices, commitment and dedication in making this issue a success. My
thanks also to Amanie Media team and OP Razi Pahlavi for the professional support
rendered in realizing this BOPA.

Pension handover ceremony by

Socso Selangor. The pension received by
the family will be continued until the wife
of the deceased passes away.
The Penakat Pension under Socso also
provided adequate fund aimed to cover
the cost of burial of the deceased.
The ceremony was witnessed by many
OPs from batch 82-84, the Commandant of
MTD, OP Asri Rasid, TPPN Perkeso Kedah
and family members of the deceased. The
Socso Director also had the opportunity to
provide a briefing on the facilities offered
by Socso to the contributor's family in the
event of death of the contributor.
The information provided during the
briefing has definitely shed some light and
provided a relief for the deceased family
and others who may be in the same boat.
This will enable them to continue on with
their lives with financial assistance from
Socso.

August 2019. The task was to develop
a comprehensive study that aims for a
thriving future for the institution and
its graduates.

Penthouse
Remember that block up the hill? That mass of concrete which to the normal person is just an array of
buildings, rooms to inhabit and operate from?
But to us it means much more than that. It is more often than not a chest of priceless shared memories, it
journals a slew of experiences and it holds indescribable meaning for all of us Old Puteras.
It was a place where we were congregated and inseminated with the principles we hold dear until today. A
place where thousands of young boys turned and evolved into men.
For many of us today, we still hold dear the brotherhood and camaraderie of being Old Puteras, of having a
common trait with many others of different ages, races and religions. Some of us pine and long for a place
we can go to and call our Boys’ Adult Wing, a place for Old Puteras where everybody knows your name
and you theirs.
Look no further as we do have such a space we can call home. The OPA building is an asset owned by our
alma mater alumni association.
The 3-storey building includes the Penthouse where the OPA facilities and offices are located as well as a
second floor and a ground floor which is currently rented out.
The penthouse houses top notch facilities including an equipped sound system to cater for events such as
festivities, weddings as well as batch gatherings.
