The 2018 FIFA World Cup is the 21st World Cup, with Russia hosting the final
tournament from June 14 to July 15, 2018. On December 2, 2010, Russia received
final approval as the host country of 2018 FIFA World Cup in the Swiss city of
Zurich. Russia already had a significant advantage in the second stage of the
voting, gaining more than 50 percent of the vote.
Russia is hosting the World Cup for the first time ever. Not only that, it is also the
first time the tournament is held in Eastern Europe. The World Cup is taking place
at 12 stadiums in 11 Russian cities.

Nizhny Novgorod is a city in the Volga Region with about 1,300,000 residents.
It is an important economic, industrial, education and cultural center of Russia
and also the largest transportation hub and administrative center of the Volga
Federal District.
The city, founded in 1221, is now a center of artisanal crafts, literature and music.
In particular, Nizhny Novgorod is the birthplace of khokhloma, the distinctive
Russian craft painting style. In total, one third of all folk crafts sold in the country
originate in the region.
