Remainder of the day is free at leisure Being capital of the People's Republic of China, it is the nation's political, economic, cultural, educational and international trade and communication center. Located in northern China, close to the port city of Tianjin and partially surrounded by Hebei Province, it also serves as the most important transportation hub and port of entry. As one of the six ancient cities in China, it has been the heart and soul of politics and society throughout its long history and consequently there is an unparalleled wealth of discovery to delight and intrigue travelers as they explore the city's ancient past and exciting modern development. Now it has become one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world, with about 140 million Chinese tourists and 4.4 million international visitors in a year. Hotel: The Capital Hotel Beijing or similar Day 02 Beijing (B/L) (Thu) Stroll through Tiananmen Square China’s historic heart of celebration and also turbulence for almost a century. Onward to the resplendent Forbidden City/Palace Museum (UNESCO site), home for Chinese Emperors since 1420. Walk through the world’s largest royal compound that was off-limits to commoners and learn about important treasures of the Imperial collection on display in the vast inner courts. Chinese lunch at local restaurant Have a ride on a two seat pedicab/trishaw with someone peddling you through the charming Hutong lanes of quickly disappearing old Beijing. Visit with a local family residing in a typical quadrangle home, local market and drum tower Dinner is on your own
Day 03 Beijing (B/L/D) (Fri) Today, climb the truly awesome Great Wall of China (UNESCO World Heritage site). Visit the Badaling section. All portions ever made would equal a solid defense wall going around the equator one and one-half times. At the less visited Badaling section, one of the most impressive portions of the barrier, you have time to enjoy the area, photograph majestic views and maybe bargain with the local vendors. Visit Beijing Jade Carving Factory followed by lunch at its Friendship Restaurant. This afternoon, visit the Summer Palace, which is the best-kept existing royal garden in Beijing, a complex of pavilions, temples, and galleries set among beautifully landscaped grounds, situated on Kunming Lake (subject the weather permitting) Peking Duck Dinner at local restaurant Day 04 Beijing/Xian (B/L) (Sat) Visit the vast Temple of Heaven complex (Tiantan Park, a UNESCO site) that was once a sacred area used only by the emperors of China for important ceremonies to honor Heaven, the supreme power. The main structure is the grand Hall of Prayer for Good Harvest, an impressive architectural feat. Today this park is a favorite gathering spot for local residents, a community center where people of all ages come to relax, exercise and express through song and dance. Joining in on activities is a fun way to interact with everyday Beijingers and is welcomed with warm smiles and open arms. Visit the Lama Temple. It is the largest Buddhist temple of the Yellow-sect in Beijing and has been completely preserved. Built in 1694 as the residence of Count Yin Zhen, the fourth son of the Emperor Kangxi, it was called "the Palace of Count Yong." After Yin Zhen became the Emperor, he continued to
use it as an imperial palace for short stays away from the capital. In 1744, it was converted into a lamasery. Yonghegong is the most renowned Tibetan Buddhist temple in China outside Tibet and holds treasures of both the Han and Tibetan cultures. Dinner is on your own Xian, located in central-northwest China, records the great changes of the country just like a living history book. Called Chang'an (meaning the eternal city) in ancient times, it is one of the birthplaces of the ancient Chinese civilization in the Yellow River Basin area. As the eastern terminal of the Silk Road and the site of the famous Terracotta Warriors of the Qin Dynasty, the city has won a reputation all over the world. More than 3,000 years of history including over 1,100 years as the capital city of ancient dynasties, have endowed the city with an amazing historical heritage. Visitors marvel at the numerous historical sites and cultural relics in and around the city. Known as the leading city of China's Western Development Drive Program since 1990s, Xian is an important economic, cultural, industrial and educational center of the central-northwest region, providing visitors with modern and convenient facilities. Hotel: Holiday Inn Xian Big Goose Pagoda or similar Day 05 Xian (B/L/DS) (Sun) Marvel at the important Terracotta Warriors and Horses underground army pits of the 1st Qin Emperor (3rd century BCE, UNESCO site) with your own eyes and understand the magnitude of this portion of the entire mausoleum project. There are thousands of pottery soldiers and each one looks different. Their solemn assignment was to protect the Emperor Qin Shihuangdi in the afterlife. Chinese lunch at local restaurant including the Noodle-making demonstration Afternoon visit the ancient Shaanxi Provincial Historical Museum, it is considered one of the birth places of Chinese culture, the capital of thirteen dynasties such as Zhou (1046 BC-256 BC), Han (202 BC-220) and Tang (618-907), and has its own unique history and cultural features. The Shaanxi History Museum in Xian, regarded as “the pearl of ancient dynasties and house of Chinese treasures”, gives a miniature overview of the thousands of years of Chinese history and the splendid ancient cultures of olden times. Dumpling Dinner followed by Tang Dynasty Show Day 06 Xian/Guilin (B/L) (Mon) Morning visit the Big Wild Goose Pagoda - regarded by many as a symbol of the city, the pagoda was built in 652 A.D in Tang Dynasty to house the sutras brought back from India by the famous monk Xuan-zang. Visit the Ancient City Wall, built during the 14th century on Tang Dynasty foundations, date to the Ming Dynasty; the walls are the largest and best-preserved ancient fortress in the world. Located in the northeast of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region in south China, Guilin is considered to be the pearl of China's thriving tourist industry on account of the natural beauty and historic treasures. Covering an area of about 27,800 square kilometers (10,734 square miles), the city
is rather compact when compared with other major tourist cities in the country. The stunning landscape in which the city is situated has a kind of magic that is all its own. The strangely shaped hills or karsts, with the verdant vegetation ranging from bamboos to conifers together with crystal clear waters and wonderful caves make the city such an appealing destination. It is also an important cultural city with a history of more than 2,000 years. The city has been the political, economic and cultural center of Guangxi since the Northern Song Dynasty (960-1127). Hotel: Guilin Bravo Hotel or similar Day 07 Guilin/Yangshuo/Guilin (B/L/D) (Tue) Take a full day cruise on Li River with lunch served on board and enjoy a panorama of bamboo grooves, sleepy villages and karst peaks of limestone formations fancifully christened by painters and poets over the centuries. Disembark in Yangshuo. Yangshuo lies in the northeast of Guangxi Province and to the southeast of Guilin City. The special geography gives it breath-taking beauty while over 1,400 years of history bless it with a deep traditional culture. The diverse ethnic minority groups including Hui, Zhuang, Yao and others, enrich it with special folk cultures represented by their various festivals; while many foreign residents add exotic flavors to its fascination. Afternoon, explore on the West Street, which is near your hotel. West Street is the most exciting one that locals call the 'Global Village'. There are not only many foreign tourists, but also quite a number of foreign residents managing cafés and restaurants. Day 08 Guilin/Chengdu (B/L) (Wed) Morning, transfer to airport for flight to Chengdu Arrive Chengdu, transfer to your hotel. Lunch at local restauarant Chengdu is the capital of Sichuan Province, which is known as the "Heavenly State" (Tian Fu Zhi Guo). Being the natural habitat of cute giant pandas, it is located in the west of Sichuan Basin and in the center of Chengdu Plain. It covers a total area of 12.3 thousand square kilometres (4,749 square miles) with a population of over 11 million. The history of the city can be traced back 2,400 when the first emperor built his capital here and named the city. Through thousands of years its original name has been kept and its position as the capital and as the significant center of politics, commerce and military of the Sichuan area (once called Shu) has remained unchanged. Shu embroideries still enjoy a high reputation for their bright colors and delicate designs, ranking among the four main embroideries in China. The city was also the place where the bronze culture, an indispensable part of ancient Chinese culture, originated; the place where the Southern Silk Road started Afternoon, visit the Wenshu Monastery, it is the largest best-preserved Buddhist temple in Chengdu. It was built in the Tang Dynasty (618-907) to dedicate to the God of Wisdom - Wenshu. Facing south and north, the Wenshu Monastery has 5 halls and eleven-story pagoda. After that, visit the Renmin Park, you'll see the local people playing Chinese Mahjong and you could join it with locals. Hotel: Dorsett Grand Chengdu or similar Day 09 Chengdu (B/L/D) (Thu) Morning visit the Chengdu Giant Panda Breeding Centre. Located just 10km (6miles) away from downtown Chengdu, the Panda Breeding Research Center has been created and imitated the pandas' natural habitat in order that they might have the best possible environment for rearing and breeding. It cares also for other rare and endangered wild animals with an area of 560 mus (92 acres), 96% of which is verdure. Giant pandas, lesser pandas, black-necked cranes, white storks as well as over 20 species of rare animals are fed and bred there throughout the year. Lunch at the Bamboo Restaurant inside the Centre Afternoon visit the Jinli Cultural Street, Jinli Street was the most famous place for baldachin - a rich, ornate cloth. And it was one of the busiest commercial areas during the Shu Kingdom (221-263). In order to reclaim its prosperity of former days, it was opened to public in October of 2004. and abroad gather here to relax, admire the traditional-style buildings, and taste some local snacks. Sichuan Hot Pot Dinner followed by Sichuan Opera Show -renowned for the amazing skill of actors who can subtly change their masks and make-up 10 times in the span of less than one minute! Day 10 Chengdu/Hongkong (B) (Fri) Morning transfer to the airport for flight to Hong Kong, “Pearl of the Orient”, the city that never sleeps. You will be met by your local guide after clearing government formalities and transferred to your hotel. Next, head off to Aberdeen once a thriving fishing community where families lived on junks and houseboats. Don’t pass up the opportunity to ride on a sampan and learn about the life on the water. Stanley Market, a famous area near the beach, is a tempting place for bargain hunters and serious shoppers where the varied merchandise turns over quickly.
