The Beauty Academy is a SETA accredited school as well as ITEC (international) and SAAHSP (national) recognised
college. We offer full time courses as well as part time Saturday and Weekday classes. The packages as well as
instalment plans can be adapted to suit your specific needs and a package of your preference can also be put
together if you require.
APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS
To Apply
▪ Call our offices in Durban or Johannesburg to make an appointment.
▪ Pay a non-refundable Application Fee of R400.
▪ Complete the Application Form and Enrolment Contract.
▪ Applicant must provide a certified copy of their Identity Document and Proof of Residence.
▪ Applicant to provide certificate for highest school qualification and tertiary qualification(s) if applicable.
▪ For applicants under 21 a copy of the Parent or Guardian’s Identity Document and Proof of Residence.
▪ If applying for an instalment option, we require a copy of the Payer’s ID, Proof of Residence, recent bank
statement or bank confirmation letter, and a duly completed debit order authorization form. All instalments
are done via debit order.
▪ All applications for enrolment are subject to acceptance.
▪ An acceptance letter will be sent to all successful applicants confirming course, student number, start-date,
orientation date if applicable, and approved payment plan.
▪ Confirm, sign and return the acceptance letter to our office.

Payment Information
▪ All cash fee and deposit payments are due prior to course commencement.

The Diploma in Health & Skincare is a full-time qualification that builds on the foundation set with 80646. It is the
expedient necessary to conclude the extensive tutoring for the multi-disciplined career goal and role of the
‘Somatologist’. Therapists represent their profession, employers, clinics, salons and above all else themselves in
the industry. Every aspect of the service provided to clients should therefore be completely professional. The
experience and knowledge which is required to reach such a level of expertise vastly depends on the qualification
being completed by potential therapists and the hands-on practical training involved. It is suffice to say that a
Somatologist encompasses all of the above with certainty and ease as a direct result of the Health and Skincare
Diploma being the ‘Rolls-Royce’ of all aesthetic and cosmetic courses!

QUALIFICATION SCHEDULE & NOTES
Full-time classes
• Classes delivered Weekdays from 8:15am to 4:00pm plus clinic rotation during free days.
• February intake – orientation 15th March 2021. Deposits due before orientation and the 1st instalment is due
by 1st April and on the 1st of every month thereafter.
• August intake – orientation 30th August 2021. Deposits due before orientation and the 1st instalment is due on
the 1st October 2021 and on the 1st of every month thereafter.
Fees include
• Course notes, textbooks, product and linen kit (excluding towels), uniform tops, product trainings, internal
exams, experiential training, SAAHSP membership fees.
Fees exclude
• SAAHSP Exam Fees, ITEC Exam Fees, First Aid Course Fee – unless otherwise indicated
OPTIONAL FEES APPLICABLE TO ALL FULL QUALIFICATIONS
(Compulsory if it is added to the Student Contract)
• SAAHSP National Exam: R1800 per module
• First-Aid: R700 (NB: First Aid is compulsory for those students who wish to do the ITEC exams)
• Optional Fees are payable by July for Feb/Mar intake and by December for the Aug intake.

SHORT COURSES
Instalment options are available when combining subjects. A single modular course can be paid over 2 months – for
more than a 2-month option the instalments would need to be paid in the months prior to the course commencing.
Final payment is due before completing the course.
WAXING – HOT AND STRIP

Waxing is a form of semi-permanent hair removal which removes hair from the root. Strip
waxing and the strip free hot wax systems are taught on all areas of the body. Learn how
to remove unwanted follicular hair quickly, effectively and become an all- round waxpert!
THREADING (Excludes SETA/ITEC)

This is another traditional Indian art of rolling a twisted doubled cotton or polyester thread
over areas of unwanted hair plucking lines of hair at the follicle level. It is a simple, effective
and extremely popular technique for removing small areas of unsightly hair creating amazing
precision with eyebrow hair removal and re-shaping.
EYEBROW AND EYELASH TINTING / EYEBROW SHAPING (Tweezer Method)

Short eye-candy treatments to enhance the eyelashes, brows and eyes using colour tints safe
for the delicate lash and brow hair. Learners are also taught to shape brows to suit the different
face shapes and features creating a polished flattering look framing the eye area.

Learners are taught to glue each extension to individual natural eyelashes to create thicker, fuller eyelashes. A

As the beauty industry evolves to new heights, slimming, younger looking skin and healthy bodies have become
the trend. Body electrics equips therapists to remain updated and offer cosmetic treatments involving low electric
currents to their clients enabling them to remain toned and lifted. Electrotherapy treatments are used as a path
of specialised programmes designed specifically for individuals who are interested in weight loss, re-contouring
their body, improving skin texture and muscle tone by the stimulation of sluggish circulation with the aid of
various electrical equipment such as G5, Iontophoresis, High Frequency, Faradic, Micro-current, etc. It is an ideal
extension to body massage treatments.

Pre-requisite: Facial Therapy & Basic Dermatology
Facial electrotherapy involves the use of electrical current to treat various skin concerns. It has been dubbed the
‘inside-out face lift excluding the knife’! Treatments incorporating electrical devices such as G5, Faradic, High
Frequency, Iontophoresis, Micro-current, Vacuum Suction and Infra-Red, may be used to unclog pores, allow
skincare formulas to penetrate more effectively into the skin, treat acne issues at a deeper level, improve
circulation, reduce fine lines and wrinkles and stimulate and re-train the muscles of the delicate facial area to
ultimately allow younger, healthy looking skin and facial contours to emerge. It is an ideal extension to facial
therapy.

SWEDISH / HOLISTIC FULL BODY MASSAGE

Swedish Massage is the most common type of full body massage. It is the best start to training in the massage field
and a foundation for learning other types of therapeutic massages such as Hot Stone Therapy and Pre-Blended

Aroma Oil Massage. In this module learners are taught the holistic massage techniques to create deeper relaxation
in clients, improve the quality of sleep, concentration, breathing, circulation, lymphatic drainage and the release of
toxins. It provides more support for increased energy than most massages. Learners are taught how to manipulate
the muscles and deep tissues to give either a slow or vigorous treatment and achieve satisfactory results.

INDIAN HEAD MASSAGE (Excludes SETA/ITEC)

This is a practice which originated over a thousand years ago in India. Our learners are
taught the art of ‘Champi’ – the traditional Hindi head, face and neck massage
technique. Another popular treatment for learners to add to their salon menu.
HOT STONE THERAPY (Excludes SETA/ITEC)

Pre-requisite: Swedish full body massage
This is a specialized massage were the learners are taught to use smooth, heated stones
to help warm up tight muscles and tissues. Stones are also positioned on key points to
maximize the therapeutic benefits.

Aromatherapy is the use of essential oils to promote healing and a feeling of well-being. Learners are taught
aromatherapy massage techniques using pre-blended essential oils. Essential oils promote beneficial changes in
the mind and body, especially in the treatment of muscle- and joint-related conditions or for physical or mental
stress. Learn how to choose essential oils to treat a variety of conditions.

Qualifications include Swedish Massage, Figure diagnosis, Body Electrical Treatment and Facial electrotherapy
treatments. Additional subjects to be completed are Professional conduct and business awareness, Anatomy
and physiology, Health and safety, Client care and communication, and Working in Beauty related industries.
This requires an additional 7-8 classroom days. The dates for these additional subjects will be communicated to
you by your lecturer.

RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING (RPL)
This is a process of identifying your knowledge and skills against a qualification through work you have done or
skills you have acquired throughout your lifetime that can count towards a qualification. RPL is conducted by a
registered assessor/ moderator against certain criteria. It is done by means of integrated assessments which is
more outcomes based.
If you have formal, non-formal or informal learning/ knowledge or skills against any of the qualifications on offer
The Beauty Academy welcomes you to bring this knowledge to us for assessment. We can then help you obtain
certification which allows you to practise your chosen profession with accredited ease as a professional
therapist!!

Our focus is on ensuring graduates are equipped to enter employment and be productive as soon as is possible. As
such we emphasize a student’s practical capacity to handle clients, conduct consultations and treatments, and be
professional in all that they do. The Student Pamper Clinic was created for this – an onsite clinic that exposes
students to the rigors of the real world. Staff are on hand to provide support and the college provides all facilities
and products to run the clinic. Discounted rates are offered to the public to encourage support. As part of their
assessment, all students are required to demonstrate strong practical competency, so students are encouraged to
spend time at the clinic (or at a similar offsite facility) to hone these skills. The Student Pamper Clinic offers real
world experience in a secure comfortable environment.
