The Parks and Recreation Board oversees the Parks and Recreation Department. The board makes decisions on the development of the
leisure time opportunities and facilities in the community. The board typically meets the first Monday of every month in the Adel City
Council Chambers at 6:30pm. The Parks and Rec. Board also serves as the City Tree Board. All meetings are open to the public. If you
have anything you would like discussed by the board, please call the Parks and Rec. Director, Nick Schenck, in advance of the meeting.

done at adel.activityreg.com. Some programs require pre-registration before
stated deadlines and have limited class sizes. We reserve the right to cancel or
combine activities due to insufficient numbers. Scholarships are available to help
cover program fees. Please contact the Parks and Recreation Office for additional
information or an application.

PHOTOS: On occasion, our staff may photograph participants at Parks and
Recreation programs, events, and activities. These photos are for department
use and may be duplicated in city publications, flyers, brochures, etc.
CODE OF CONDUCT: Participants, parents, and volunteer coaches are
expected to exhibit appropriate behavior at all times and at all activities.
VANDALISM: Acts of vandalism occur each year to our park facilities and
equipment. If you see anyone vandalizing city parks, please call the Adel Police at
993-6723. Together we can keep our parks looking great!
SPONSORSHIP: Interested in sponsoring a program? Contact the Parks &
Recreation office. Various levels of sponsorship available for all programs. Little
League Baseball and Softball team sponsorship is $100 which scores your
“corporate name” on one team’s uniform and the option for a 3’x8’ sign on the
outfield fence line. Sponsor is responsible for supplying sign.
EVERY KID PLAYS!
The Adel Kiwanis Club has created a program to assist ADM families by
helping cover some or all of the participation fees or uniform costs for their
k-8 child who participates in ADM activities. Qualifying activities include
band, baseball, basketball, cheerleading, dance, football, gymnastics,
scouts, soccer, softball, swimming and volleyball among others. The Every
Kid Plays! Program will reimburse up to $200 per child for those families
that are having financial difficulties or otherwise experiencing tough times.

BALLFIELD CONCESSIONS: Serve up a tasty treat at
the Adel ballfields from Mid-April to Mid-June. Ages 15+.
Starting pay is $9.00/hour.
YOUTH SOFTBALL UMPIRES: Games are played from DEADLINE:
Mid-April through Mid-June. Must have knowledge of the MARCH 26
game. Ages 15+. Pay is $35/game.
SITE SUPERVISOR: Oversee various adult and youth parks and recreation
activities. Duties include set-up/tear-down and serving as point of contact.
Ages 18+. Starting pay is $12.50/hour.
PARKS MAINTENANCE: Help maintain the city parks and facilities
throughout the spring/summer season. Duties include mowing, weed-eating,
basic maintenance of buildings and machinery and other duties as assigned.

VOLUNTEERS: Many of our programs would not be possible without
the help of our volunteers and volunteer coaches. High schoolers looking
for humanitarian cord hours should contact smudder@adeliowa.org for
opportunities.
The City of Adel is continually improving and expanding park
land and amenities. We are grateful for all the beautiful green
spaces, athletic fields, trails, and playgrounds around the
community. When visiting, please remember the following
policies to ensure all visitors have a pleasant experience:
DOGS IN THE PARKS & CEMETARIES: 1) Dogs are to
be leashed at all times. 2) Pet owners are asked to pick
up and properly dispose of their pet’s waste. Appreciation
and thanks are extended to responsible pet owners who,
along with their pets, respect other park users and the park
system. Our convenient Dogi-Pot Stations have bags for pet
waste and are located in all city parks. Thank-You!
TOBACCO-FREE PARKS: Tobacco use is prohibited in
designated areas of City of Adel parks, trails, and outdoor
recreational facilities and all public building grounds at all
times. Designated park areas include: restrooms; athletic
fields and in the spectator areas of athletic fields during a
sporting event; tennis courts; disc golf courses; playground
areas; recreational trail rest areas; and any pavilions, shelters
and benches located in a park or on a public ground. Tobacco-
free signs shall be posted in all areas to conform to the

There are multiple rentable shelters that serve as a great place for meetings,
weddings, birthday parties, family reunions, picnics, or other outdoor events.
Additional information, availability, and reservations can be made online at adel.
activityreg.com or in person at Adel City Hall.
FEES: Resident fees are $30 plus $5/additional hour with a max daily fee of
$60. Nonresident fees are $40 plus $5/additional hour with a max daily fee of
$70. Reservations start at 4 hours. If electricity is needed at the Community
Stage & Pavilion, an additional $20 fee will be applied. There is no charge for
local nonprofit/civic organizations.
RULES & REGULATIONS: It is the individuals or organizations responsibility
to maintain order among the individuals attending the event. Participants are
required to obey all park rules and are responsible for damage to park property.
No kegs or glass bottles are allowed. It is the individuals or organizations
responsibility to assure the park is cleaned up following the event.
SOUND PERMITS: Please note that all outdoor event rentals with amplified
sound or music may require a sound permit for an additional $50. Please
contact Adel City Hall at 515-993-4525 to confirm. Sound permits must go
through an approval process.
ADEL BALL FIELD PRACTICE TIME
Adel ball fields are in very high demand during the youth baseball, softball, and
adult league seasons. To meet every users’ needs, field priority is as follows:
Adel Parks and Rec. programs, Adel Parks and Rec. teams, any other users.
FEES: $15 per 1.5-hour session per field. No charge for Adel Parks and Rec
teams.
RULES & REGULATIONS: Teams are limited to 1 session in any given day
and 2 sessions per 5-day period.
RESERVATION: Online at adel.activityreg.com. Will open for season on
April 5 for non-parks and rec teams.
BALL FIELD TOURNAMENT RENTALS
Adel City Ballfields can be rented for youth or adult softball and baseball
tournaments. Please contact the Parks and Recreation Department for pricing.
TREE PLANTING PROGRAM
The Adel Parks and Recreation Department welcomes tree lovers to
donate a tree for a community park. You could recognize a retirement,
anniversary, birth, or any other civic-minded purpose. Due to special
requests, we have set up guidelines for persons wishing to plant a tree
in any of the city parks in Adel. Please contact Nick Schenck, Parks and
Recreation Director for these special guidelines.

YOUTH *NEW* KIDDIE KICKERS Introductory soccer program for boys and girls ages 3 and 4 years old that are not eligible to begin ADM soccer club yet, birth years of 2017-2018. There will be a skills portion and scrimmage portion each evening. Parent/adult participation is required. FEE: $35 (Includes shin guards) LOCATION: Kinnick-Feller Park Football Field WHEN: Mondays 6-6:45pm; April 12-May 17 DEADLINE: March 26 LITTLE SLUGGERS Introductory baseball and softball program for boys and girls ages 3 and 4. The purpose is to teach the basics of hitting the ball, run the bases, become familiar with being on the field, and most of all, to have FUN. Players should bring a glove and water bottle. All other equipment is provided. Parent/adult participation is required. Fall soccer is offered by the ADM Soccer Club. Games are played on weekends

ADM YOUTH FOOTBALL
This unified progression program eases kids into the game of football by
implementing age-appropriate skills each year in hopes to teach kids a love for
the game while teaching safe play techniques. Register at admfootball.com.

Games to include bean bags, bocce ball, ladder toss, and kan jam. Never

Grab your bat, glove, and friends. Teams are
guaranteed 8 games. Men will hit a 14” ball, and
Women will hit a 12” ball. Adel Park/Rec. will provide
game balls for league games.

MENS & WOMENS TENNIS LEAGUES
Hosted by the Adel Tennis Club, this program
provides tennis opportunities for players of all skill
levels. Matches are played in hour increments
beginning at 6pm. Match schedules will be made
and provided to players.

BEAN BAG LEAGUE
The classic yard game brought to the parks and recreation line-up. Find a partner
and get in a couple practice throws. Seven weeks of league play followed by
