Consisting of 30 problems, this round tests accuracy, with the time period
allowing only the most capable students to complete all of the problems.
Calculators are not permitted.

Target Round (approximately 30 minutes)

LETTER FROM TSPE PRESIDENT

                                      March 2021

                                      Dear Mathletes®:

Welcome to the 2021 Texas State MATHCOUNTS Competition sponsored by the Texas
                                      Society of Professional Engineers (TSPE)!

I would like to congratulate you on your success at the Chapter Invitational competition. You have proven by your selection
to participate at the Texas State Competition that you are one of the State’s best and brightest middle school students of
  mathematics.

MATHCOUNTS has been one of the premier Mathematics competitions in Texas since 1984. TSPE is honored to have
been the sponsoring organization for MATHCOUNTS in Texas since its inception. TSPE members across the State
of Texas have volunteered thousands of hours at the local, state, and national levels to bring you this program. The
MATHCOUNTS program ensures that students in Texas have an opportunity to expand their minds and hone their critical
thinking skills by being exposed to the MATHCOUNTS materials.

TSPE is a State Society organization of the National Society of Professional Engineers. The NSPE/TSPE organization pro-
motes the Licensed Practice of Professional Engineering which focuses on the protection of the Health, Safety and Welfare
of members of the Public who are impacted by facilities designed by Professional Engineers such as roads, bridges,
airports, buildings, water systems, sanitation systems and many other facilities that you use each and every day.

One of the key goals of TSPE is to promote the engineering profession through student outreach programs in Sci-
ence, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). MATHCOUNTS encourages students to engage in math by
developing problem-solving skills which is the basis for developing a successful career in engineering. Because of your
demonstrated excellence in in mathematics and MATHCOUNTS, the Professional Engineers in TSPE feel that you can be-
come a Professional Engineer, too! We hope that your involvement with Texas MATHCOUNTS will open your mind to the
amazing possibilities available to you in the world of Professional Engineering. If you want to learn more about becoming a
Professional Engineer, ask your MATHCOUNTS Coach to contact your MATHCOUNTS Chapter Coordinator to arrange a
  discussion with a Professional Engineer.

Good luck and congratulations on being among the best middle school Mathletes in Texas! We are excited about your
future and look forward to the many great things you will accomplish. We hope you will consider using your talents in the
future by pursuing an engineering career. The world needs bright minds like yours!

  Sincerely,

David M. Underbrink, Licensed Professional Engineer
  President 2020-2021
  Texas Society of Professional Engineers
Founded in 1936, the Texas Society of Professional Engineers serves to promote and protect professional engineers in Texas. Comprised of local
and student chapters, it is devoted to the professional, ethical, economic, social and political aspects of engineering. TSPE is the only organization
that serves to protect the rights of the individual professional engineer in Texas across all branches of engineering.

                          MATHCOUNTS Competition.

With over 200 schools and 130 Mathletes participating
in chapter competitions across the state, the Texas
MATHCOUNTS Program is one of the biggest and best in the
nation. The Texas State Competition allows us an opportunity to showcase some of the
brightest students in the nation and recognize them for their hard work and dedication
to the program. We congratulate you on the honor of advancing to the 2021 Texas
State Competition. Please enjoy the experience and make the most of this prestigious
opportunity which you have earned.

The Texas State MATHCOUNTS Program is successful due to the dedication of the
countless number of volunteers, coaches, parents and sponsors. We would like to thank
the coaches and parents for the countless hours they spend teaching and encouraging
their students to grow their love of math. We would like to thank the TSPE Chapter
MATHCOUNTS Coordinators and their teams for volunteering their time and effort to run
the local competitions. We would like to thank the hundreds of volunteers without which
we couldn’t host the many activities that take place throughout the competition year.
We would like to thank the sponsors for their generous support which has allowed the
program to be successful. Finally, we would like to thank you, the competitor, for your hard
work and dedication to the MATHCOUNTS program.

The Texas State MATHCOUNTS Committee is comprised of a dedicated group of engineers
that donate their time and effort into making this competition the success it is. However,
this event wouldn’t be possible without the tremendous work of the TSPE Staff. Their
passion for the program has allowed Texas to remain one of the top programs in the
country.

We wish you the best at the March 25, 2021 competition and your continued success in life!

Sincerely,
