ITINERARY

Day 1: Arica, Altiplano y Putre
Day 2: Las Vicuñas National Reserve - Surire Salt Flat
Day 3: Lauca National Park, Chungará Lake

DETAILED ITINERARY

Día 1: Arica, Altiplano and Putre

You will leave your hotel to head towards the Asoagro Agricultural Terminal, a
typical Ariqueño market that allows you to discover the various gifts that the
fertile valleys of the region give and the products that arrive from neighboring
countries. But before, you will be surprised with a short tour of the fascinating

city of Arica, you will know the beauty from of its beaches to the Anzota Caverns,
places where men and women of the Chinchorro culture lived for millennia. To
finish this part of excursion, you will be able to contemplate a panoramic view of
the City from the impetuous Morro de Arica.
The journey continues to the prodigious Azapa Valley, popular for having an
archaeological development with more than 10,000 years of history. You will see
amazing geoglyphs, such as the Tropilla Geoglyphs.
You will visit the San Miguel de Azapa Archaeological Museum, that safeguards
on of the most important heritages sets related to archeology in Chile, such as
the oldest mummies in the world belonging to the Chinchorro culture (5,000 BC)
and pre – inca relics dating back 10,000 years. You will cross the Lluta Valley,
the town of Poconchile, surrounded by large alfalfa crops, also for its church, the
San Gerónimo church, belonging to the group “Iglesias del Altiplano” and
declared a National Monument, in addition, you will meet one of the most
important archaeological complexes in the region, Pukará de Copaquilla.
The route continues towards Tambo Sapahuira, where you can enjoy and get to
know part of the typical gastronomy of the Chilean Altiplano. Later you will visit
the town of Socoroma, famous for its architecture and beautiful terraces of
green cultivation. You will end your first day with arrival at the town of Putre.

Day 2: Las Vicuñas National Reserve – Surire Salt Flat

Your second day begins from the town of Putre. From this beautiful town, an
example of the high Andean culture, you will continue towards the Vicuñas
National Reserve, you will be able to appreciate majestic landscapes such as the
towns of Ancuta and Guallatire.
You will arrive at the most captivating destination of this day, Surire Salt Flat,
which is characterized by its enormous majesty and the presence of saline
deposits that stamp the wonder of an intense white landscape whose contrast
with the pure blue of its surface water lagoons, without a doubt it will delight your
eyes, in addition its primary characteristic is to protect the existence of valuable
species such as the , flamingo, vicuña, alpaca, llama, among others.
After appreciating the environmental beauty, the panoramic views of flamingos
feeding and hovering around the lagoons, you will enjoy a delicious Picnic at the
Termas de Polloquere. With the following experience you will have the perfect
panorama of a magic circuit, a thermal bath, ideal to relax and rest. You will finish
the second day returning to Putre.

Día 3: Lauca National Park, Chungará Lake.

Today you will know a majestic place, the Lauca National Park, you will
appreciate the wonderfulness of the Altiplano world, you will take a short walk
through the cave sector, one of the most fascinating trails in this paradise, the
route at 4,300 meters high, reveals the shyness of numerous viscachas that
appear in the light of day. You will be amazed with the views of the Lagunas
Cotacotani viewpoint, this viewpoint is charming for being in the middle of
wetlands with a diverse and exclusive fauna. Continuing the tour, your next stop
is at one of the most beautiful attractions in the park, Chungará Lake, one of the
highest in the world, located over 4500 meters above sea level, whose
hypnotizing magic makes tourists immobile every year, highlighting the blue
reflection of the sky and the summit of the Parinacota Volcano in its crystalline
waters. In front of the lake, you can see the famous Payachatas Volcanoes
(twins) whose mythical magic of antiquity has given them various interpretations,
including the one that keeps an Inca treasure, or that represents a couple in love.
Then you will discover the picturesque town of Parinacota, with its primitive
architecture that keeps the vestiges of a colonial past and the enormous
religiosity that maintains the treasure of the Aymara culture. To finish you can
take an enriching bath in the Jurasi Hot Springs, of volcanic origin, which are
attractive due to their enormous medicinal power, to cure rheumatism ills.
After enjoying three days of beautiful colors in various landscapes and
recharging your body with a fascinating thermal bath, you will start your way back
to the city of eternal spring, Arica.

RESTRICTIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS

  •   Warm clothes, in the Altiplano, above 4,000 meters above sea level, the
      temperature tends to drop considerably, especially in the summer season
      (summer) or popularly “Bolivian Winter", which sometimes brings rain.
  •   The day before if possible, not to consume alcohol in excess. At breakfast
      or before, avoid drinking milk.
  •   People with hypertension and heart disease under medical supervision,
      generally do not have problems with height, however it is important to
      consult your doctor (written authorization is required).

      OTHER IMPORTANTS RECOMMENDATIONS
  •   Drink plenty of liquids, specially water, regardless of the sensation of
      thirst.
  •   It is highly recommended to always wear a sunscreen for skin and lips,
      which provide the necessary level of protection for your skin.
  •   Sunglasses, the luminosity is very intense since the atmosphere is very
      clear.
  •   Hat with wings and that covers the head, if is this possible.
  •   Walking shoes, ideally boots or booties, a pair of light shoes for walking in
      town and for rest.
  •   Bring a bathing suit and towel for the visit to the hot springs.
  •   The relative humidity of the air is always very low. If your skin is sensitive
      to this condition, bring moisturizing creams with you.
  •   It is recommended to eat light, hydrate well.
