it represents one of the best structure of this type in Italy. The room shows an exhibition of astronomical
equipment (binoculars, telescopes, etc.) and reproduces the sky as it appears to the naked eye, with
extreme realism and charm. But the heart of the Planetarium is the computerized projection system of the

Until 1782 the town of Lecco was completely fortified with walls which bound it in a unusual triangular

architect Giuseppe Bovara in 1816, it was used as a prison. In 1932, after further restoration, the Tower
was given to the City of Lecco by the State in order to become the History Museum of the city and

Constructed in 1916, the building hosted the offices of the land, taxes and duties where the citizens

tears of blood. The miracle was officially recognized and today the sanctuary is still a destination for
pilgrims. Inside there is a 1746 sophisticated major altar made by marbles and furnishings, as well as the
treasure, dating back to the 1700s.

Colico was chosen as location for this fort because of its position at the crossing between Valtellina and
Valchiavenna. This important road was used in previous centuries by invading armies since the Middle
Ages. The fort was completed at the end of 1914 and it is one of the most technological Italian military
compound of World War One. The four cannons are still in place today and they can fire with great
precision up to 12 kilometres of distance. Thanks to its leading position, the fort offers a suggestive and
unique landscape on Lake Como and on the Valtellina and Valchiavenna mountains.

It was built in 1603 to defend Milan from the enemies coming from the Canton Grigione. Its name refers
to the Spanish leader Pedro Enriquez de Acevedo Count of Fuentes. It was rapidly built by the military
engineer Gabrio Brusca and it is one of the best examples of “Italian fortress” during the Spanish
domination in the XVII century. The fort was demolished in 1796 by command of Napoleon Bonaparte but
it is still possible to see the most important structures, thanks to a guided tour in three languages.

For information:
Public Library - Phone +39 0341 804113

It is a private building constructed on roman foundation with an irregular square plant. The building, which
has crown walls with battlements to protect the round parapet, can be dated between 1360 and 1370. It is
a typical castle-enclosure, which is a fortification built as a shelter for the population in case of attack. The
material used for the construction are the same in kind those used for the “galllicus opus”, such as rocks
dug on site or picked up by the lake shore. It has two towers: one is flat (open inside) towering over the
only opening that faces the town, while the other is squared shape towards the north east corner. The
moat surrounding the castle, mentioned in the “Statuto del Comune di Dervio” of 1389, was eliminated

between 1825 and 1830 for the construction of the military road (now the provincial road 72). The village
of Corenno, with its typical alleys carved into the rock, was subsequently built up from the castle.

For information:
Mrs. Raffaella – Mobile phone +39 338 7487612

The original construction of the church of St. Thomas of Canterbury is probably dated around 12th
century. The building is located near the walls of a castle, large complex built by Andreani family. Over
the centuries it has undergone several restorations: the façade, several times remodelled, now has a
portal dating back to 1698. Around the same era were built two chapels, one dedicated to St. Joseph, the
other to the Virgin Mary. In 1966 various frescoes were brought to light on the side walls of the nave,
dated between '300 and' 500. Of great value are the two funerary monuments, called "Arche", attached to
the façade which, together with the third on the walls of the Castle, are important examples of Lombard
Gothic sculpture.

• Open in autumn and winter: on Thursday afternoon; on Saturdays and Sundays for the whole day.

The Castle of Orezia stands on a cliff overlooking the peninsula of Dervio. The first documentary sources
that speak of the presence of a fortification dates back to 1040, though the construction of the Castle of
Orezia dates back to the 14th century for blockade the road from Valvarrone, which played at the time an
important strategic link with Valsassina. Sources report that the Castle of Orezia was connected by secret
passages leading to the Castle of Corenno and the hamlet of Villa. Currently, only one tower remains
visible, preserved in good condition; while next to it there are still remains of the fort and of the other
towers.

Positioned on a hill above the lake, on the ancient coast road called “Sentiero del Viandante” (the
Wayfarer’s Path), the church was built in the High Middle Age. It seems to be a small roman temple due
to the ruins of a semicircular apse, while the ceiling dates back to the 13th century. The building hosts an
astonishing series of frescoes on the walls, on the triumphal arch and on the lower part of the presbytery:
dating back to 1475-1485.

The church was built on the ruins of an ancient pagan temple of the 7th and 8th century and it is one of
the finest examples of the Romanesque in Brianza. The present building dates back to the 11th century
and traces the structure of the first Romanesque churches, with the raising of the altar built above the
crypt. The church was reconstructed later whereas the gates dates back to 1231. It was primarily used as
baptistery as the large baptismal font at the centre of the span shows.

precious Romanesque fresco of the Christ Pantocrator. The church raises on the peak of a hill facing the

Built on the ruins of an ancient monastery, this church has a typical medieval structure with a nave
ending in a semicircular apse. The rebuilding of the structure dates to 1462, as indicated by an inscription
in the church. The frescoes that decorate it date back to 1463 but their attribution remains uncertain up
today. The paintings were restored in 1986; they belong to the Lombard artistic production of the late
Gothic period. The central part of the apse is made up of an "almond" mystical depicting the Coronation
of the Virgin, surrounded by a host of angels; the lower part represents the Apostles who assist adoring
the scene. The plinth is decorated by monochromatic images that represent the months of the year.

Located near Villa Lurani, it constitutes, together with the other church of Santa Margherita, one of the
most significant religious buildings of primary artistic importance of the ancient Casatenovo. Promoted
and built by Casati family before 1062, it played the stately chapel function of the same family, whose
coat of arms is found in a carved stone, inserted into the bell, presumably from the Romanesque period.
In ancient times there were tombs inside and outside the building: it was Casati knights, three of which
were found in 1720, while widening the access road to the property Lurani. The Renaissance frescoes
that once adorned the walls of the church are now very little: are preserved frescoes of the walls and the
ceiling of the Lay Chapel, on the left of the entrance; of particular importance, the Madonna in trono con
Bambino.

The basilica was built in the 11th century on the foundation of a building once part of a Benedictine abbey
that for centuries had dominated a wide territory and had a key role in the delicate medieval scenery.
In 1556 the compound passed to the order of the Olivetans friars who enlarged it and restored it.
Despite the various rehashes, the three-aisled basilica apse still conserves its original Romanesque
features. The 9th century church was enlarged between the 11th and 12th century. The large cloister with
porches and loggias with its harmonious proportions dates back to the 16th century. The church also
hosts the Museum of Romanesque Art, momentarily closed to public.
