Bienvenue! Bienvenido! Welcome!
On behalf of all the OB-PS Supporters in Norway, we are happy to welcome
you to this very exciting and interesting event. Bergen is superbly located on
the west coast of Norway, with magnificent views of mountains and fjords.

With the slogan, “Climb any Mountain”, we are highlighting an important
message for all of us in the Olave Baden-Powell Society. Girls and
young women all over the world can develop their potential, contribute
greatly to society and realise their own personal ambitions with the right
encouragement and support.

Throughout the event, we will explore how the challenge of climate change
is being felt all over the world. We will consider how this pressing issue is
impacting women and girls and how we can face this challenge together.

GUEST SPEAKERS
The programme will feature many interesting and inspiring speakers, both
during the plenary sessions and in breakout sessions. Further information
will be posted on the OB-PS website.

We are highlighting here just four of the speakers who will be sharing
their experience. All four of these speakers have been actively involved in
climbing different mountains through their professional and private lives.

Liv Arnesen is known for her expeditions to the
South Pole. She was the first woman to undertake
this venture alone. Liv has also undertaken river
expeditions with Ann Bancroft and the Girl Scouts
of the USA. The steepest mountain, and biggest
challenge she faced, was climbing Mount Everest.
Keen on education, Liv created a website for
children and young people to enable them to
follow her travels. She is the co-editor of a recent
                            book, called “Motivation and Mastering”.

Pål Nesse, Special Adviser and Spokesperson, has
been working for NRC, the Norwegian Refugee
Council, for almost 30 years. He is familiar with
the various challenges and obstacles that refugees
face, and he believes education and learning are
instrumental in the lives of children, young people
and women. For many years, NRC has had a
project of cooperation with the Norwegian Guide
and Scout Association. Many of the organisation’s
youth members have been able to visit NRC
project countries and meet local young people
there. Pål will be joined on stage by some of the
young people who have travelled to Africa as part
                   of this project.

Solveig Schytz is a former Chief Commissioner
for the Guides and Scouts of Norway. She is an
active politician, and a professional curator of
historical sites and cultural heritage. Solveig is
actively engaged in environmental issues and
believes it is urgent to change human behaviour.

Kristin Halvorsen is director of the Center for
                   International Climate and Environmental Research
in Oslo. She is also the Head of the Biotechnology
Council. In many parts of the world, climate
change is having a significant and increased
impact on girls and young women. Kristin will talk
about climate change and challenges from this
                   gender perspective.
