PRELIMINARY PROGRAMMEWelcome Message from
Convenors of 7th AOCCN
Dear Colleagues,
On behalf of the Malaysian Society of Neurosciences (MSN), it is with pleasure that we invite you to the 7th Asian-Oceanian Congress on
Clinical Neurophysiology (AOCCN). The Congress was originally planned to be held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia from 9 - 12 April 2020. However,
following the COVID-19 outbreak, the Committee made the decision to postpone the Congress to 30 January - 1 February 2021 and as
international travel restrictions will likely be in place for the foreseeable future, the Congress will now be delivered on a virtual platform.
Clinical neurophysiology plays an important role in medicine, particularly within the field of neurosciences. Accurate clinical diagnosis and
procedural monitoring rely on well-executed neurophysiology and a greater understanding of disease pathophysiology and therapy can be
achieved through research in clinical neurophysiology. It is thus not surprising that the field of clinical neurophysiology has seen rapid growth
in recent years.
With support from the International Federation of Clinical Neurophysiology (IFCN) and its Asian-Oceanian chapter, the 7th AOCCN aims to
provide delegates with a fundamental overview of the role of clinical neurophysiology in diseases of the central and peripheral nervous system
as well as showcase the recent advancements and latest technology in this field. Our programme will include plenary lectures, workshops and
scientific symposiums, featuring international and regional speakers. In line with the MSN and IFCN’s commitment to education, we will be
offering free registration to delegates thus allowing AOCCN to be accessible to a global audience.
In these unprecedented times, we will make every effort to ensure that the 7th AOCCN continues to provide delegates with a rewarding
experience.
Professor Dr. Nortina Shahrizaila
Congress Convenor
Chair of Clinical Neurophysiology Section, MSN
Associate Professor Dr. Ai-Huey Tan
Congress Convenor
President of MSN
2Welcome Message from the IFCN President International Advisory Faculty
IFCN Committee
Dear Colleagues, President Professor Walter Paulus
“Learning is like rowing upstream; not to advance Past-President Professor Mark Hallett
is to drop back.” According to this Chinese proverb, Secretary Professor Renato Verdugo
the need for the exchange of knowledge remains
strong, and the IFCN Executive Committee Treasurer Professor Aatif Husain
commends the Asian-Oceanian Chapter for Editor-in-Chief, CLINPH Professor Ulf Ziemann
their effort to host the Asian-Oceanian Congress
Editor-in-Chief, CNP Professor Margitta Seeck
during these challenging times. With great pleasure and also great
expectations, I invite you on behalf of the International Federation of Asia-Oceania Chapter Professor Ryusuke Kakigi
Clinical Neurophysiology to join the virtual Asian-Oceanian Congress North America Chapter Professor Donald Sanders
on Clinical Neurophysiology from 30 January until 1 February 2021.
This conference takes place right in between the IFCN meetings Europe, Middle-East,

opportunity for updating knowledge and networking.
Beyond these clinical aspects, the IFCN also promotes the transfer
of basic human neurophysiological knowledge incorporating
translational elements coming from animal experiments,
computational neuroscience, studies on consciousness,
neuroimaging, and many more. Having seen the organizational efforts
so far, I am convinced that Professor Ryusuke Kakigi representing
the Asian-Oceanian Chapter, and Professor Nortina Shahrizaila and
Associate Professor Ai-Huey Tan representing the local organization,
will organize an extraordinary virtual event. Last but not least, I wish
you continued good health, and I am hopeful that we will be meeting
in-person again soon.
We are looking forward to connecting virtually during the AOCCN.

of EEG and epileptology.
She received her medical and doctoral degrees at the Ludwigs-Maximilians-University of Munich, where she also
received her neurology training. After her medical studies, she did a postdoctoral fellowship at the Free University of
Berlin and moved then to the United States where she was trained in EEG and epileptology at the Beth Israel Hospital,
Harvard University. Her main interests are epilepsy surgery, EEG and EEG-based imaging in epilepsy, neurophysiology
of intracranial EEG recordings. She is author of more than 170 papers on epilepsy in national and international journals,
serves on several editorial boards of epilepsy journals, and is expert for the Swiss national science foundation and
research agencies of other European and non-European countries. Furthermore, she is also actively involved in the
