High-level contacts
“Karl Scheffler put it best in his exceptional book about Berlin’s
destiny, Berlin: Ein Stadtschicksal : ‘Berlin – forever condemned to be-
come, but never to be.’ This was written in 1910. More than 100 years
later, it still perfectly describes why this city is the ideal location for
a media company like Axel Springer. Berlin is the capital of change,
movement and – to use a word increasingly popular among Germans
– innovation! ”

Science
Outstanding research
“Berlin is a city of science at the heart of Europe – a city whose his-
tory of scientific excellence stems from its many important research
institutions and its long track record of scientific breakthroughs. The
tightly woven network between the scientific and business commu-
nities is one of the outstanding features of our city. Like practically
no other European metropolis, Berlin offers ideal locations for new
scientific institutions and knowledge-based companies to set up their
operations.
The many young people here make Berlin one of the live-
liest academic metropolises. A broad range of cultural attractions
puts an ideal final touch on the city’s appeal. At present, it is hard
to think of another place where modern life – characterized by the
symbiosis of science and art, and thus, by culture – is lived out more
fully.”

International meeting place
“Berlin is taking on an increasingly important role in Europe. The city
attracts creative people who realize new business ideas and develop
new products here. That makes it an ideal marketplace for concepts
ready to be transformed into commercial solutions. And this is true
for all the creative industries, from fashion to music to information
technology. SAP takes advantage of its Berlin location to consult po-
licymakers in various regulatory bodies and committees. We benefit
from the excellent networking opportunities that Berlin provides as
Germany’s capital and the center of political decision making – and
we recognized early on that we simply had to come here! Berlin is like
a diamond in the rough; it offers us opportunities to play a role in
policy decisions, try out new ideas and have a real impact.”

“Here in Berlin, our company has claimed its place as the world’s
leading rail technology manufacturer. With its central location at
the heart of a borderless Europe, Berlin is an ideal international
business location. Germany is one of our most important markets,
so we chose to have a decision-making hub in close proximity to our

around Berlin – none of our other locations can match the outstand-
ing talent pool available here.
In fact, we have now become one of the German capital’s
largest employers. Another reason why we chose Berlin: The city is
extremely attractive to both our business partners and our workforce,
and, as an international company, we can meet people here from
around the world.”

           A Success Story
           Fujitsu Technology Solutions

In order to find an optimal location for its new Telesales Center,
Fujitsu, the global IT company, systematically evaluated 20 different
cities. Berlin won out in the end, due to a number of key advan‑
tages: its excellent infrastructure, its appeal to potential employees
and the outstanding support that businesses receive from the city’s
authorities as well as from Berlin’s economic development corpora‑
tion. With this major investment, Fujitsu will create jobs for up to
400 trained professionals in the German capital, while significantly
strengthening its sales and distribution operations in the CEMEA&I
region (Continental Europe, Middle East, Africa and India).
