It is the prism that producing top-notch doctors who have a zeal for refracts all our endeavours — whether it is our perpetual learning and are capable of performing well architecture, curriculum design, pedagogy, hostel in diverse professional and cultural settings. While we life, laboratories, café or the library. In short, we provide the students with all the tools required to simply celebrate the liminal space where the 'global' successfully take on the world, we also endeavour to meets the 'local'. We are traditional, yet we are not. instil in them a healthy cultural rootedness that We are modern, yet we are not really so. We combines the best of traditional values with modern understand the hybrid nature of the global workplace and progressive sensibilities. and that is why no barriers constrain us. To flourish in the world today, one cannot afford substantive and rigid visions of the good life. One has to appreciate the negotiated nature of the contemporary. That is why we emphasize reflexivity, flexibility, diversity and accommodation as key values. While that is the ethos of critical engagement, we aspire to craft, we are equally keen to develop top quality doctors for dedicated patient care.
OUR PILLARS WE HAVE CONCEIVED FOUR PILLARS THAT ENCAPSULATE OUR VISION AND THAT ACT AS A GUIDING LIGHT TO FURTHER OUR IDEAS PRACTICES OF EDUCATIONAL EXCELLENCE: MODERN HOLISTIC The 'global' is mediated by the 'local' in our times. That has led to a crisis of modern universals, which Education, in the true sense, is about honing every were so far by default Eurocentric/Anglo centric in facet of a student. Hence, apart from the emphasis nature. Now there is an increasing realization that on rationality and logical reasoning, we also make there is a 'South in the North' and a 'North in the certain that each student is developed in the South'. Hence, there is no singular modernity; rather, aesthetic, affective and spiritual domains as well. We there are much modernity shaped by diverse ensure that the students learn to appreciate the best locations. Therefore, while we celebrate the spirit of in world literature and art, develop keen sensitivity critical enquiry entailed by the modern, we also give towards environment and acquire a sense of social importance to local cultures/values/knowledge- responsibility towards the downtrodden sections of systems in arriving at our own version of modernity. the society. Also, since we aspire to produce doctors We, at Bishnupur Public Institute of Medical Science who could perform in diverse settings, we not only and Bishnupur Super Specialty Hospital & Bishnupur tolerate cultural diversity, but we also celebrate it. District Hospital (PPP), Siromonipur, Bishnupur, Overall, we foster a multi- and interdisciplinary Bankura, W.B, are convinced that the future is open- approach to education ended and in perpetual construction. Hence, no categories, ideals or visions are sacrosanct or should go uncontested. Therefore, we instil a questioning and critical attitude in our students. As Robert F Kennedy said famously, "Some men see things as they are and say, 'Why?' 'I dream of things that never were and say, 'Why not?’ MORAL APPLIED Our understanding of morality is multidimensional. Of what use is an education that finds no application The first level of meaning simply refers to basic in the world outside? That is why we insist on etiquette, healthy interpersonal relationships, respect practical application of every subject. As Tagore for parents, teachers, the elderly, and so on. The said, 'You can't cross the sea by merely standing and second level means complementarities between staring at the water'. However, we are aware that 'skills' and ‘values’. However, there is a third level of superior application can only emerge from a sound meaning wherein morality refers to the art of taking conceptual understanding. Hence, we encourage our quality decisions in the face of dilemma emerging students to learn the basics properly and spend from a world in perpetual flux. At Bishnupur Public quality time in appreciating the fundamentals of Institute of Medical Science and Bishnupur Super medical practice. It is only from the vantage point & Specialty Hospital & Bishnupur District Hospital of such an applied approach, deeply intermeshed (PPP), Siromonipur, Bishnupur, Bankura, W.B we take with the conceptual, that we can ensure that our all these three levels of meaning seriously.
