Assistant PrincipalDunlop House LEGO LEAGUE LEGEND RYAN HOLMES Ryan Holmes first wowed us with his lego skills in Year 7 when he created an incredible presentation on the history of Lego for his Rich Task. Now in Year 9, Ryan is a member of a robotics team competing in the 2018 / 19 First Lego League competition. This competition has over 40,000 teams worldwide and over 800 in Australia alone! His outstanding team has won the regional and state competitions and ranked high enough at the Sydney Nationals to compete in one of the worldwide events. His team is now heading to Uruguay, South America to represent Australia on the world stage. Congratulations Ryan, we wish you all the best for the competition and an incredible experience traveling in South America. We are all behind you cheering you on. Good Luck! CRICKET SUPER STAR Congratulations Vaishnavi Munukutla who has been selected to represent Victoria in the 14 & Under Girls Indoor Age Division. Vaishnavi will be competing at Cricket Australia's upcoming 2019 Australian Indoor Cricket Championships, held at Casey Stadium, Victoria from Saturday 6th July to 13th July. This National event will show case Indoor Cricket across Australia with all states competing and is Live- Streamed during the finals. We wish Vaishnavi the best of luck for a fantastic tournament. WORLD’S GREATEST SHAVE Congratulations to Year 10 students Lily Barnett and Ashley Leong who recently participated in the World’s Greatest Shave on the 11th May dying their hair for the cause. The girls exceeded their fundraising goal of $450 raising $580 for the Leukaemia Foundation. What an amazing effort! MENTOR PROGRAM This term Mentor Groups have already been busy with individual students spending time reflecting on their Interim Reports and setting their own learning goals to work towards for Term 2. Your child’s goal(s) can be accessed on their Compass Learning Tasks. We encourage all students to share their learning goals with their parents. Thank you to all students who have participated in the recent Year 7 and VCE surveys. This feedback is highly valuable to inform our school programs and teaching practice. This week we are focused on exam preparation, with students having time to create their own weekly revision timetables, familiarize themselves with the exam procedures and importantly learn and share study tips and strategies. We wish all our students the best of luck with the exams over the coming weeks.

YEAR 8 CAMP: LAKE DEWAR LODGE, BACCHUS MARSH
On 29th April, Melba and Freeman students went on camp to the Lake Dewar Camp in Myrniong. We did heaps of
activities over our three days there. My favorite was definitely the flying fox because we got heaps of challenges to do
and Harry and I were trying to catch a rock when going down it. I wasn’t scared at all but when we had to walk off with
our eyes closed that was a bit scary. The mountain biking was also very good because it was a challenge and also a
really good experience. The camp environment was very good with lots of nice people and staff and with beautiful
scenery. It was surrounded by sort of a forest but with lots of rocks and things around as well. It was a very beautiful
camp in a very beautiful setting. The overall experience was very good because you never got bored. There was always
something to keep you occupied and there was always a lovely view to look at. You can even stay there with your
family and do all the activities, and go in the pool and use the oval. Overall a very good camp that is definitely worth
going to with your mates or your family. I would give it 5 out of 5 stars.
Luke Bell, 8FB
On 29th April, Year 8 students at Blackburn High school set off to go to Camp Lake Dewar in Myrniong. We did many
activities over the three days we were there. My personal favourites were the flying fox, gorge walk, adventure
tunnelling, stand up paddle boarding, kayaking and mountain biking. Mountain biking was probably my favourite
because the views were amazing and the track took us around the whole camp. The camp environment was just as
good too. One of my favourite parts of this experience was just sitting in my cabin hanging out with friends. It was nice
and cosy there and it was great talking to some of my friends that I don’t really hang out with anymore. There were
plenty of activities to keep you occupied when you had free time like foosball, pool, and various courts for playing
tennis and basketball. Overall I had a great time and was glad I had this experience. I have many great memories to
take away from this camp.
Tahlia Corigliano, 8FB
On 29th April, Melba and Freeman went to Lake Dewar Camp. When we arrived at the camp, I could see a huge lake
with kayaks and SUPs lined up neatly along it, and other schools playing games in the bush and having a lot of fun.
Seeing all the activities was very exciting. My favourite activity were the SUPs (stand up paddleboards). When we
started to learn how to stand up, there was a small island in the middle with tiny stone sculptures. We had lots of races
and challenges to do. When we went mountain biking, we went through a practice course, but afterwards the
instructor said that we were ready for the real deal. It was amazing how long the bike ride went for. We went down
slopes, hills and even got to stop to see the amazing view. There were mountains with great big trees and a long
winding river that went past the mountains. This was probably the best camp I’ve ever been to. It was amazing how
many activities there were to do in free time and the food was delicious. I would like to thank all the instructors, chefs
and teachers for letting me have the best camp experience I could ever have this year.

a group of about 20 students attended the

the sun came out for the ceremony. Amy

along with the other schools, and the
students listened to a moving address by

attendance were Ryan Lyddieth and

It is difficult to describe the pride felt during the
ANZAC Day commemorations last month.
The behaviour and commitment to the meaning
of ANZAC Day by our wonderful students was
admirable. I am very privileged to work with
them.
It is very special to share these experiences with
the students and parents of Symphonic Band and
Concert Choir at the Assemblies on Wednesday
and Symphonic Band at the March on
Thursday. The students understanding of music's
role in the ceremonies and their commitment to
attend rehearsals and to perform at their highest
standard is admirable.
It is wonderful to see the students of the Music

our community in such respectful and fulfilling

Blackburn was certainly the best performing secondary school in the competition with 5 divers placing in the
