16:45 – 17:30 Rovio’s Growth Drivers

films, creating theme parks, an animated series in 2020 and Hatch, a new platform for mobile games. The breadth
of activities is impressive and financed through games and brand-licensing revenues, an early-adopter mindset and
an understanding that competition is fierce – but where is Rovio’s competition?

Samuli Torssonen (TROLL PRODUCTIONS – FINLAND)
Samuli Torssonen did his first computer generated animations when he was 13 years old – in 1992 when computers
were slow and bulky. His career of visual effects began while he finished his zero-budget scifi-spoof feature “Star
Wreck: In the Pirkinning” in 2005 (available for free on YouTube). Samuli was involved in “Iron Sky” (2012) feature
film right from the beginning. He was the visual effects supervisor and led the visual effects team. The visual
effects house Troll was born right after the heavy film production. As a VFX Supervisor Samuli is responsible for
planning visual effects for commercials, TV series and feature films. This includes estimating the amount of work
needed and the used techniques for client projects. And usually Samuli is also handling the on-set-supervising
for visual effects. Whenever he has some time left he prefers to light and render 3D animations and maybe even
animate something! And he is also planning for the next “Star Wreck” film.

                                                                                                                                             27
