Call for Nominations:
2021 Armand-Frappier Outstanding Student Award
Objective of Award: To provide national recognition to outstanding graduate student
microbiologists.
Eligibility: Any student currently attending a recognized Canadian graduate program, who has done
outstanding scientific work in microbiology, shall be eligible for the Award. Both the nominator and
the student must be members of the CSM and have paid the current year membership fees.
Award Lecture: The award winner will present a 40 minute talk based on the work for which the
award was given during the Annual Conference of the CSM/SCM. This year the Conference will be
held virtually from June 14 to June 17, 2021. The awardee will be invited to provide a review article
based on the research presented for publication in the Canadian Journal of Microbiology (CJM), which
is published by the Canadian Science Publishing. The awardee will receive a framed certificate and a
cheque in the amount of $500. In addition, the awardee will be reimbursed for registration for the
Conference. Commendation Certificates will be awarded to three runner-up entrants and Certificates
of Recognition will be provided to all university nominees.
Nomination Process: Any CSM Regular Member in good standings can nominate one student.
The nominator has to be a faculty member at the same institution as the student. There are no limits as
to the number of nominees from any one institution. The attached application form shall be completed
by the nominee and nominator. All materials should be submitted by e-mail to the CSM Secretariat:
info@csm-scm.org.
The Nomination Deadline is April 15th, 2021.
Method of Selection: The selection of the award winner shall be made by a special Award
Committee consisting of three international members appointed by the CSM president. If the
committee believes that no nominee merits the award in any given year, then no award shall be made.
