SUNDAY 20TH JUNE TO SUNDAY 4TH JULY, 2021
Set deep in Queensland’s Central Highlands, Carnarvon Gorge is a peaceful picturesque
environment set under a canopy of gums and Carnarvon fan palms. A stunning
landscape of towering cliffs, colourful gorges and endless views, with sites steeped in
historic cultural connections. Charters Towers is an inland rural city founded in the

After several lovely relaxing days on the Sunshine Coast, we make our way north

of its captivating colonial past mixed with an artistic vibe everywhere you go. Learn
about the magical world of Mary Poppins, as this town is the birthplace of author P.L
Travers. A short stroll through heritage-listed Queens Park will lead us to Cherry Tree
Lane and the statue of Mary Poppins perched next to the 136-year-old building where
P.L Travers was born in 1889. While in Queens Park, take a look at the statue of Duncan
Chapman, the first Anzac ashore at Gallopoli, who symbolises the rich military history
of Maryborough. We continue our journey passing rows of red rich soil, green
macadamia trees dotting the horizon, "hedges" of sugarcane along the roadside and

Mackenzie River when a railway bridge was being constructed to one of the local mines
and donated to the town on the event of its centenary by BHP Mines. We also view the
famous Van Gogh Sunflower Painting which is a tribute to Emerald’s history as the town
used to be a huge sunflower producer. After a quick look around we journey further
northwards, taking the Gregory Development Road. This deserted outback road, passes
through Clermont and the remote Belyando Road House. Upon arrival in Charters
Towers, we check into our accommodation for the next 2 nights.

TEXAS LONGHORN STATION AND CHARTERS TOWERS
This morning we head out of town a short distance to Leahton Park, to discover the
largest herd of full blood Texas Longhorn cattle in Australia. The 1,100 acre property is
family owned by Michael and Linda, allowing us to enjoy learning about the cattle first
hand. They opened in 2009, operating the award winning Texas Longhorn Wagon Tour
and Safaris. We take a horse drawn wagon ride and a trip back in time - back to the old
west, to the era of the legendary Texas Longhorns! These historical cattle are direct
descendants of the millions of Texas Longhorns that walked in the great trail herds from
Texas in the late 1800's. Enjoy freshly cooked camp oven damper and billy tea served
from the genuine cowboy chuck wagon before taking an informative tour of the custom

Buffalo, American Bison, African Watusi and Scottish Highland cattle. A unique and
memorable Australian outback experience where the Aussie Bush meets the Old West!

                                ATHERTON TABLELANDS
A day of exploring the Atherton Tablelands in depth! Our first stop will be at the
beautiful Millaa Millaa Waterfall, which is one of the most photographed falls in
Australia, so bring your camera. From here we back track a little way and call in to the
tiny township of Millaa Millaa, known as the “Village”. At the end of the street, there is a
lovey pioneer statue of a cow and a dairy farmer. What makes the Tablelands so special
is the combination of its geographic location in the Tropics (between 400 and 1,100
metres), and its pleasant climate along with the volcanic activities that have shaped
parts of its landscape. One of the most dramatic examples of this is Lake Barrine –
a beautiful volcanic crater lake. Lunch will be at the Tea House after taking a cruise on
the lake. Our day hasn’t finished, as we visit the Curtain Fig Tree on our way to try some
cheese tasting at Gallo Dairyland – a family owned business. This is a full working dairy
