SONYA KILKENNY
KPS would like to thank Sonya Kilkenny for
visiting our school for our first
Special Assembly of 2021!
Sonya spoke about what it means to be a leader
and presented our 2021 student leaders with a
certificate and an official Student Leader Badge.
She mentioned that ALL students can be leaders
at our school, whether they have a badge or not.
Sonya also presented all our Prep students with a special ‘Welcome To School’ bag, which
include some special books for the students to keep and read at home. Reading everyday
is very important and we hope you love your new books!Publication Date
CURRICULUM NEWS
CURRICULUM:
It has been an exciting time this term for staff as we fine tune our teaching of
Mathematics. Differentiated tasks, the use of lots of equipment to teach and
reinforce concepts and game based practise has been at the forefront of our
teaching. The buzz in the staffroom and during planning sessions around teaching
of Mathematics, using this research-based approach, has been very positive and
exciting.
Prep/1FM:
Every morning we start the day with our reading. We talk about helping ourselves
learn by practising the skills that our teachers have taught us. Then we get to
choose our Daily 5 Activities where we practise reading, writing and phonics. We do
Listen to Reading, Work on Writing, Word Work, Read to Someone and Read to
Self. We have check-ins to learn new things and we get to work with Billie, Mrs
Matthews and Mrs. Fairfoul too.
- Mrs. Matthews - Learning Specialist
“The hands on sessions are inspiring
and so accessible.
I can see the piggybacking of ideas
happening before my eyes.
The excitement, interest and buzz of maths
has had a rebirth – thanks so much!"Publication Date
