September 2020 Page 3Roadrunner Council / Jr NAD
Roadrunner Council is a high school organization that serves as an
advocate for students regarding their needs for the school. Junior
National Association of the Deaf (Jr. NAD) chapter also has a big part
with the Roadrunner Council. The Jr. NADoffers our students
opportunities to develop leadership skills and meet/interact with
students from other schools and states. The chapter focuses on
advocacy, attitude, awareness, commitment, cooperation, friendship,
information exchange, involvement and leadership skills. There is a
national conference that is held every two years in different states. Last year it was in New
York and next year it will be in California. Students who are members of Jr. NAD has the
opportunity to attend a youth leadership camp (YLC) every year in the summertime in
Oregon. Check out the websites for Jr NAD and for Youth Leadership
Camp:https://www.nad.org/youth/junior-nad/ https://youth.nad.org/ylc/.The Roadrunner
Council has meetings and participates in many activities such as community events and
fundraisers. Skills and values obtained by chapter members during these meetings and events
will help them to become future leaders and advocates in the deaf and hard of hearing
community. It is open to all high school students. If you are interested, contact Masa Nakama:
