Dear Parents / Carers,
This has been the most extraordinary term any of us can remember. We are living through
uniquely challenging times and we are sure that, like us, many of you are still coming to terms with
how our lives have had to change. We would like to start by sending our very best wishes to
everyone who is part of the Bishop’s community: pupils, parents, carers, staff and governors. We
hope that you and your families are able to look after yourselves and each other and we would
like to offer our support and encouragement through any difficulties you are facing. Thank you
once again for the messages of support we have received, they are always very welcome and
hearten us through these difficult times. We would also like to take this opportunity to once again
thank our staff. The whole staff body has pulled together in the most difficult of circumstances,
and they continue to do so. We feel incredibly lucky to have such a dedicated team working with
us and know that our pupils benefit hugely from their hard work.
We have sent you many letters over recent weeks, explaining what we have been doing and trying
to keep you informed as best we can. Copies of all our letters home can be found on the school
website - click on the updates at the top of the home page or go to Parents > Letters Home. We
are not going to repeat all these messages here, but there are a few reminders and notices that
are included here that we would ask you to make note of. Our regular News Roundup of all the
wonderful activities and events that our pupils have been involved with over the last term will also
be published shortly. Do take some time to read this and help us celebrate some great
achievements and opportunities, both before and during the school closure. Our pupils continue
to astonish and impress us with their active enthusiasm to participate in performances,
competitions, fieldwork and visits, sports, music and very many other activities. We have had a
number of visiting speakers into school, including well-known authors and local business people
and we are always proud to hear the positive things they have to say about the way our girls
engage with them.
Term dates
Friday 3rd April is the last day of the Spring Term and teachers will not be setting work in Google
Classroom over the holiday period. Lessons will resume on Monday 20th April. We have been
impressed with the girls’ commitment to their learning as evidenced by their engagement with
Google Classroom and the effort they are putting into the activities set.
"This is an OUTSTANDING school" - Ofsted 2016Many teachers have published ideas for activities pupils can do at home over the holidays, should they choose to. There are also some good links in the Year Group classrooms that girls should look at if they need some ideas. We know that it can be a struggle to stay occupied during this period of ‘lockdown’ so we have tried to offer some ideas. None of them are compulsory. Parent Governor Appointment Welcome to our two new Parent Governors, Hasnain Qayyam and Shaun Reed. Uniform It would be greatly appreciated if parents/carers (particularly those of girls in Year 11) would consider donating old or outgrown uniform that is in reasonable condition to our Nearly New supply in school. All donations are welcome and we would particularly like to create a supply of skirts. Please keep any donations, preferably laundered in a plastic bag to one side for now until we are able to receive them . Welwyn Hatfield Community Safety Partnership We will be sending out today an important letter from the Welwyn Hatfield Community Safety Partnership. Please take some time to read this as it contains some important messages from Hertfordshire Police and a link to local support services. We wish you all well in these challenging times. Yours sincerely, Ms T Nickson & Mr A Wood Co-Headteachers All comments and queries should be sent via email please.
