DRIVER AND TRAFFIC SAFETY
EDUCATION COURSE
SUMMER 2021 SEMESTER
Students who successfully complete this course will receive the MV-285
“STUDENT CERTIFICATE OF COMPLETION” issued by the
Department of Motor Vehicles. This serves a number of practical advantages.
First, in most cases, it will make students eligible for a rate reduction in their
automobile insurance. We recommend that you check with your family’s
insurance agent prior to registration in order to determine how this might
affect you, since policies vary from company to company. Second, it will
allow them to receive their Senior License at age 17 rather than at 18. The
current law states that an individual who possesses a Junior License may drive
only with a parent or guardian until he/she receives a Senior License. A junior
license does not permit the student to drive to school.
The course consists of 24 hours of classroom instruction and 24 hours of in-
car instruction. Students will complete no fewer than 6 hours of actual behind-
the-wheel driving experience and 18 hours of observation in a parent or
guardian supervised vehicle. It is mandatory to complete 24 hours of
classroom instruction and 24 hours of in-car instruction in order to receive the
“Student Certificate of Completion.” Each student will register for one
section of virtual lecture on Zoom. The only option for driving lessons is at
home with a parent or guardian.
The cost of instruction is $250.00 per student.
Applications will be accepted from individuals who will have a learner’s
permit and will be at least 16 years of age before the first day of class. The
application deadline is Friday, JULY 9, 2021.SEAFORD HIGH SCHOOL
