Welcome to the Coastal Leisure Learning prospectus for leisure classes for adults in the North and
East of Suffolk. Yet again this year sees more classes on offer than before with a new set of classes
introduced in Kesgrave, and we’re delighted to be one of the first users of the new Darsham
village hall. This continues to expand the number and location of venues for classes and walking
bird and nature tours. We hope you’ll find something near you.
As ever, we’ve tried to offer courses to provide you with skills, interests and hobbies
or to help you lead a healthy and active lifestyle.

Our community interest company is still unfunded and is simply supported by you.
We do hope that you choose to join one of our classes and wish you a very successful year.

Henry VIII struggled throughout his reign to secure his family dynasty, working his way through six wives in
his desperate quest for an heir – and a spare. This course will introduce you to the four key historical players
who were, ‘Henry’s Successors’. Find out about the decisive but sickly protestant son, a young girl who
reigned for just nine days, a bloody and ruthless catholic daughter and wannabe matriarch, and a golden
daughter who became far more than any son Henry could have ever wished for! We will tie together primary
source material with narrative, questions, speculations and hopefully our own conclusions! This is an ideal
follow on from the course ‘Henry VIII’s Wives’ but no previous historical study is necessary.

We will explore the main historical periods of such items, learning about some of the craftsmen, designers
and manufacturers associated with them. We will attempt to tackle the tricky question of how to assess their

Using the upper body, Nordic Walking is a total body workout. Done properly, it uses 90% of the body’s mus-
cles. It can build stamina and strength, allowing you to walk further and faster. You will learn to find your own
level and pace, but please keep in mind, this is not an amble! The poles automatically push you forward so
with no more effort, you will go a bit faster, thus getting more exercise in less time. Poles are supplied during
instruction but you are encouraged to have your own eventually, allowing you to exercise in between walks.
You need to be able to walk about 4 miles with comparative ease as by the middle of the course we will be
doing that mileage. The first two weeks are at the Millennium Hall in Kesgrave, but later we will walk in other
local areas to gain experience on different terrain. After the course there are various Nordic Walks you can join
in with. It is advisable to bring a small rucksack with a bottle of water to each class.

The first two weeks are at the Saxmundham Sports Club, but later we will walk in other
local areas to gain experience on different terrain. After the course there are various Nordic Walks you can join
in with. It is advisable to bring a small rucksack with a bottle of water to each class.

Students will learn to cut glass to a pattern (or “cartoon”), lead up the glass into a stained glass panel, solder
all of the joins and waterproof the panel by using leaded light cement. We will also learn how to design for
stained glass and students can then embark on their own projects. Those who wish can also learn the copper
foil technique, invented by Louis Tiffany and now familiar to us in “Tiffany” lamps and lightcatchers. There will
be many books available to inform and inspire you. Tools will be available for students’ use at the beginning
of the class and then, for those of you who wish to carry on the skills learnt, a list of tools to purchase and
suggested suppliers will be available. I look forward to welcoming you to the class!
