PARISH COMMUNITY NEWS

24th September 2020
Dear Members of Wodonga Lutheran Parish,
2020 has been a year like never before, with lockdowns, restrictions, zoom meetings etc.
An yet in all of these stresses and uncertainties, our Heavenly Father has been and still
is with us, comforting us, reassuring us, guiding us and most importantly loving us.
Our Heavenly Father has been with the Parish Council and the Call Committee as
the work of the Parish continues.
The Calling of a new Pastor for our Parish has always been moving forward -slowly.
During the first lockdown, the Calling process was put on hold for some weeks by the
Victorian District, as it was felt that Pastors would not feel comfortable leaving their
Parish during the COVID-19 crisis. As the country began to open up again in
May/June, we were given the all clear to proceed, and it was looking as though we
may be able to have a Parish Call meeting in August. That is until the second
lockdown happened.
In these unprecedented times, new arrangements for meetings such as Parish
Meetings, Annual General Meetings and Call Meetings have been made and
approved by the Victorian District and these arrangements will be in place until the
2021 Synod. AGMs can now be held via zoom, and, voting to Call a new Pastor can
now be by email, postal voting or other electronic means.
At the September Parish Council Meeting it was decided that the Wodonga Lutheran
Parish would implement preferential postal voting to Call a new Pastor and this will
happen in the next couple of weeks.
Also at the Parish Meeting it was decided to also include in the mail out, the matter
of formally accepting the letter from the members of St Mark's Yackandandah
advising the Parish that they intend to cease worship services as from 10th April
2020. The letter from St Mark's was read out at the AGM, but a decision could not be
made as there needed to be a two week notice of intention.
Over the coming weeks you will receive via Australia Post an envelope containing;
 Information on each Pastor candidate for consideration to call
 A voting slip to Call a Pastor.
 A voting slip to vote on:-
Accepting the letter for closure of St Mark's Congregation
The second highest candidate in the Call votes to receive the contingent
call, should the first Pastor choose to decline.
Scrutineers for the Call vote count to be Mr Kevin Wiencke and Mr
             Glenn Roennfeldt
A copy of the letter from St Mark's Yackandandah.
A stamped, return addressed envelope for all your voting papers.
The postal voting will take longer than a face to face Parish Meeting and this may be
to some, frustrating. Please be patient, as what is happening is something none of
us on Parish Council or the Call Committee envisaged. We will work through the
situation as best as we possibly can, keeping in mind our responsibilities to you the
members of the Parish.
On your behalf I would like to thank the Call Committee, Jason Zweck, Angela
Uhrhane, Sheryl Parsons, Andy Enever and John Donker, for their many months of
dedicated service to the Parish, for their time prayerfully seeking Pastor candidates
for the Call Meeting, and for their willingness to continue on during these times of
stress and uncertainty.
Serving Him with you,
Jenny Simboras Chair, Wodonga Lutheran Parish Chair, Call Committee
