REACHING OUT
Is there anyone that you are aware of that is unable to access church online,
either a service or a meeting, and would like to? If yes, please let a steward
know. In reality if they do not have the equipment there is little we can do but
if it is a case of helping someone to use a phone, tablet or computer to access
the things we offer, then we should be able to help.
PRAYERS
If you would like prayers for yourself, your family or friends, please contact the
Prayer Coordinator, Lynn Smith woosehillprayerchain@gmail.com or tel.07757
701730. Messages on the prayer chain are totally confidential and only seen by
those Church members on the chain, if you would also like to be included in the
intercessions on a Sunday morning then please let Lynn know.
MUSIC
With the government virus restrictions easing on the 17th May 2021 the advice
given under step 3 of the recovery programme is that there is no change to the
indoor public worship restrictions. These are that face coverings must be worn at
all times unless a person is taking part or directly officiating in the service. When
not directly involved, face coverings must be worn. Peter and Sue will continue
to lead the singing from the front of the church until further notice.
Community singing is prohibited as before unless it is being performed in the open
air.

TADPOLES
We are running a shorter, smaller version of our Tadpoles group outdoors on
Wednesday mornings from around 9-10.30, when weather permits. We could do
with an extra pair of hands in setting up a refreshments table. Unlike our indoor
Tadpoles, there is no specific time allocated to snacks, but they are available to
collect for most of the session. If you could help us, please contact Val Weedon,
Sue Youle or Ruth Smith. Many thanks in anticipation! Val
CALLING ALL KNITTERS!
I hope you will have read the article in the recent issue of our magazine about a
proposed Mouse Hunt to be held in our church grounds to attract the younger
members of our local community together with their families. With details to be
finalized, we are looking at the weekend of 17th July – but we can’t do it
without you! We need lots of knitted mice in a variety of colours – striped,
spotted, as outrageous as you like, using any odd bits of wool you have around.
Let’s make this a whole church event. Patterns available online, but I’m sure we
can provide if needed. Val.
www.woosehillchurch.orgREFLECTION FROM OUR MINISTER
Dear Friends,
Reading Luke chapter 10 recently, I began to wonder the significance of the
increased number of disciples. Only recorded in Luke, the appointment of another
70 [in some manuscripts 72] by Jesus makes the total number of disciples 82 up
to this point. Having a clear parallel with the sending out of the 12 disciples
recorded in the previous chapter [9:1-6], their mission has some distinctive
features.
Firstly, there is a sense of urgency. `Greet no one along the road`, Jesus said.
This may sound a bit discourteous, but the point was to avoid lengthy eastern
salutations and ensuing conversations. The time they have in their hands for their
mission is too precious to be wated. Jesus also said, `do not go from house to
house`. This is to avoid time spent in finding new lodging and settling into that.
Secondly, Jesus asked the disciples to pray for more disciples. They were there
not only to labour in the harvest, but also to ask God for more to join in their
mission. This brings home to us the deepest concerns Jesus has for the world and
his invitation for us to share in them.
But what about the significance of the newly added 70?
Well, of course, the harvest is ready therefore, more workers are needed. But
Luke may have a good understanding of the symbolism these numbers represent.
If the 12 original disciples represented the reconstitution of the twelve tribes in
Christ’s ministry, the 70 may represent the seventy gentile nations of the world,
founded by the sons of Noah after the flood [Genesis 10]. Therefore, the 12 and
70 represent the Jewish-Gentile foundation of the newly emerging church.
With prayers,
Soba-
