Synopsis
Globalization and information and communications technology (ICT) have played a pivotal role in revolutionizing value creation
through the development of human capital formation. The constantly changing needs and structure of the labour market are
primarily responsible for the conversion of a traditional economy relying fundamentally on the application of physical abilities to a
knowledge-based economy relying on ideas, technologies and innovations. In this economy, knowledge has to be created, acquired,
developed, transmitted, preserved and utilized for the improvement of individual and social welfare.
Comparative Advantage in the Knowledge Economy: A National and Organizational Resource provides a comprehensive and
insightful understanding of all the dimensions of a transition from a traditional to a knowledge economy. It attempts to explain how
educational achievement, skilled manpower, investment in knowledge capital and analytics will be the key to success of a nation’s
comparative advantage in the globalized era.
The volume should be of interest to students, researchers and teachers of economics, policy makers and advanced graduate
students with an interest in economic analyses and development policy.

Synopsis
Until now, change leadership has lacked a theoretical basis for use by leaders as a starting point when implementing change
processes.
This tactical text addresses this. Think of the tightrope walker; they must constantly change the position of their arms and legs to
remain 'stable' on the tightrope. Stability depends on change, and change depends on the existence of a stable core. If everything is
in a state of flux, the result will be chaos. If everything is stable, the result will be rigid. Rigid systems will collapse if there is the
slightest change. Meanwhile, chaotic systems use all their energy to maintain stability.

This book is split into two parts. In the first part, we consider our theoretical basis. In the second part, we describe the leadership
tools we have developed for use in change processes. We have designed a leader's toolbox for planned change processes. This
toolbox consists of 18 leadership tools . These can be used by any leader to ensure the effective communication and
implementation of planned change processes.
Perfect for undergraduate and postgraduate students who wish to expand their knowledge of change leadership focusing on both
the theory and the tools needed to implement changes.

Synopsis
In this increasingly neoliberal gig economy, exponentially expanding with technological advances, the ability to work online remotely
has led some western millennials to travel the world to work and play, while making a subsistence living as digital platform workers.
Digging beneath the superficial newspaper articles that highlight beach-bound, bikinied workers, adorned with laptops, this book
asks, what are the social implications of adopting the subcultural lifestyle known as ‘Digital Nomadism’?

This book explores the inherent social problems with this lifestyle. Examining how Digital Nomadism provides an individualistic fix for
an otherwise downwardly-mobile millennial generation, Thompson demonstrates how this generation increasingly postpone
markers of adulthood—purchasing a house, getting married, or having children—because of their financial insecurities. Thompson
highlights that while being a Digital Nomad can provide a high quality of life while living on the beaches of Thailand, such avenues
obscures their inabilities to afford a comfortable lifestyle in their home countries.

Synopsis
As modern societies become more diverse and multicultural, the call for greater inclusion within organizations is getting louder. In
response, many organizations have rushed to diversify, without fulling understanding the implicit and explicit levels of diversity, the
complexity of social identities, and the hidden and often unintended ways differences between members of in-groups and out-
groups can lead to social exclusion.
By providing a thorough overview of the concept of diversity, distinguishing between competing definitions and types of cultural and
cognitive differences, Diversity and Organizational Development helps current and future leaders develop their diversity competency.

Concepts of diversity management are explained as value-added activities that increase creativity and innovation, improve problem-
solving and organizational flexibility, and aid in the recruitment and retention of top talent. Drawing upon interdisciplinary
perspectives from business, economics, psychology, and sociology, this work offers a comprehensive approach to inclusive
organizational development through which diversity and inclusion initiatives are supported by all facets of organizational operations
and culture. Readers are shown how organizations can move toward the integrating stage of organizational development, during
which members of all cultural and identity groups feel included, valued, and empowered through their contributions to
organizational success.
Making a case for inclusive development through organizational culture, this book further demonstrates how rituals, symbols, and
language can create shared meaning among members of diverse organizations, powerfully influencing their effectiveness and
strategic performance, while ultimately creating more satisfying workplaces.

Synopsis
Although many countries have created effective strategies to recruit more international students due to proven economic and social
benefits, recruiting international students as a field of research lacks coherence. Filling this gap, this book provides a holistic and
comprehensive overview of this emerging research area.
Exploring the theoretical and practical aspects of recruiting international students, this edited collection considers the financial,
administrative, legislative, socio-cultural and market related barriers to international recruitment. The chapters cover a broad range of
topics such as the role of social media in recruiting international students, the impact of internal environment on the recruitment of
international students and the internationalization of universities as a strategy for recruiting international students. Offering a wide-
ranging snapshot of global policies on international student recruitment across Asia, Europe and North America, as well as a
consideration of related issues such as student integration and cultural adjustments, the authors and editors equip readers
interested in the theory and practice with a more sophisticated view of the field, empowering them to engage in further research
and practical strategies.

Synopsis
The digital transformation of higher education has the same reputation as the higher education sector itself: rigid and reluctant to
change. Covid-19 has radically changed this rigidity, with thousands of Universities compelled to go 100 percent online in just a few
days. Threatened by edtech start-ups, big tech corporations increasingly interested in academia, as well as venture capitalists
attracted by the sector's high profit margins, Universities need to change their way of doing business to stay in business.
Higher Education at the Crossroads of Disruption: The University of the 21st Century looks at the various areas of higher education
that will likely undergo radical changes. Learning and teaching approaches will increasingly move into the digital sphere; advances in
artificial intelligence as well as (big) data availability, will change the way academia works. This books examines how teaching formats
will vary, and how curricula and course content will evolve. Higher education will most likely focus on skills development, with a
stronger emphasis on inter- and multidisciplinary study content, and a steady turn toward society's well-being and sustainability.

This is essential reading for those holding a leadership position in higher education, researchers with a focus on higher education,
and to anyone interested in the evolution and future of higher education.

Synopsis
The COVID-19 pandemic has accelerated growth in online education across the world. While the online classroom experience has
been written about extensively, the outside of class experience and student services for those learning remotely has received little
attention. This book provides College and university personnel with research, theoretical foundations, and best practice to support
and engage online learners.
In this edited collection, authors from across the globe present case studies in various contexts including a large state university
system, a growing public master’s degree, two private institutions, and a Scottish institution. Various theoretical constructs are
provided to help inform practices for supporting online students including Wenger’s ‘communities of practice’, Garrison’s
‘communities of inquiry’, and the Dynamic Student Development Metatheodel. Understanding that all students encounter different
challenges, the volume also covers the different needs of specific student populations throughout their online experiences and
concludes with a discussion about the importance of inclusion for students with disabilities.

Synopsis
Vibrant, quality, inclusive, and performing education systems remain a constant aspiration for all countries and educational
stakeholders, and are more important than ever given the uncertain and disrupted times in which we live. Ground-breaking and
timely, Leading Education Systems explores the nature, dispositions and context of the leadership of schooling systems.

Acknowledging the once-in-a-lifetime stimulus of a pandemic, this timely edited collection highlights the opportunity we have for
comprehensive and complex new discussions around education systems. Drawing on the perspectives of a diverse range of global
thought leaders, academics and scholar-practitioners, this text is a springboard for the re-imagination of education system
leadership. Supporting and fortifying leaders to question traditional models of system leadership, Brown and Duignan envision how
system leaders might act in collaboration with others to lead differently. Their book is a must-have call to action for education
stakeholders to lead us into a new and different age, and a sustainable future.

Synopsis
There is significant research available on critical success and failure factors of Lean Six Sigma implementation in organizations,
predominantly focusing on the technical side of this performance method. But many organisations have overlooked soft skill aspects
and the responsibilities of the Executive Leadership of the organization to make deployment a success.

Leading Lean Six Sigma: Research on Leadership for Operational Excellence Deployment assesses the impact of organizational
leadership on the deployment of Lean Six Sigma in organisations. By identifying leadership as a critical success factor for Lean Six
Sigma deployment in organizations, this book details what leadership traits are needed for a successful deployment, differentiating
by industry sector, and presents a ground-breaking leadership dependency model. Alessandro Laureani and Jiju Antony's new
research extends and refines the current understanding of Lean Six Sigma and leadership, identifying the traits a leader needs to
display to increase the chances of successful deployment.

This book offers new perspectives for researchers examining Leadership, Management and Operational Excellence, as well as
presenting useful guidance for practitioners launching, managing or sustaining continuous improvement initiatives in their
organisations.

Synopsis
Toseef Azid, Murniati Mukhlisin, Nashr Akbar, and Muhammad Tahir bring together leading researchers to provide a state-of-the-art
overview of the monetary policy, corporate governance, their legal and regulatory issues and procedures that structure Islamic banks
(IBs) and other Islamic financial institutions (IFIs). Monetary policy and corporate governance are integral to macroeconomics and
microeconomics while interest rates are a key part of monetary policy. Given negativity associated with interest rates, Islamic
economists have sought alternative instruments.

Focusing on the populous Muslim countries such as Pakistan, Malaysia, Turkey, Bangladesh and Indonesia this book explains how
corporate and shari’ah governance structures work together under the umbrella of Islamic monetary policy, and in the process,
provides guidelines that how such structures improve corporate social responsibility in order to serve the best interests of all
stakeholders. The chapters included here cover various features of IBs and IFIs, corporate performance and strategic analysis of
microfinance shari’ah based non-banking institutions, in order to investigate the role that these processes play in shaping broader
global financial systems. For instance, it portrays different governance models of central bank of a country like Iran having a shari’ah
based financial system.

In conclusion, Monetary Policy, Islamic Finance, and Islamic Corporate Governance: An International overview explores the
interrelationships between corporate governance from the perspective of shari’ah, banking industry and Islamic monetary policy.
This is a must-read for the corporate sector, banking experts and monetary authorities including academics and postgraduate
students.

Synopsis
Collecting data about our lives, our bodies and our behaviours has become a part of everyday practice that promises greater self-
awareness, healthier living and increased productivity. This book focuses on the dialectical relationship between users and designers
of self-tracking technology to examine how logics of datafication redefine the body. It explores what these emerging relations mean
for imagining, designing and analysing sociotechnical systems that bring about self-tracking.

Jethani provides a genealogy of self-tracking to situate the notions of quantified and quantifiable selves as problematic data regimes
within contemporary digital culture. It charts the origins of self-tracking from within the blueprint of the "Californian Ideology" to a
global social movement which now reaches beyond self-experimentation to encompass the wider trajectories of using wearable
sensor technology in the neoliberal management of health, wellbeing and productivity.

The book reframes and theorises the quantified self by re-examining and developing arguments of how bodies "disappear" (Jewson),
are made "docile" (Foucault) and get caught up in "rhythms" (Lefebvre) by datafication. The concept of a "quantised" self is
introduced as a means of reading into and exposing the inherent political interests being served when self-tracking technology is
introduced into clinical, home and workplace settings. Drawing from case studies of self-tracking in practice, the final chapter
sketches the outline of a mutual praxis of critique and design that allows us to reimagine the politics embedded in sociotechnical
systems of self-tracking and to consider possibilities of intervention.

Synopsis
The Psychophysics of Learning presents a learning system design approach that is formulated by the strategies and techniques the
brain uses to process external information and make sense of that information to the learning ecology of all learners. The
psychophysics of sensation, perception, and cognition provide the research information, which is used to formulate the learning
system framework. These processes are inherent to all individuals and result in a model that promotes access, learning, and
academic success for all learners.

This information is applied to the design of the learning engagement, learning experience, and learning environment dimensions of
a learning system. The psychophysics of sensation are applied to the design of the learning engagement strategies to ensure that all
learners can intellectually access and comprehend the information presented as inputs to the learning system. The psychophysics of
cognition are applied to the development of learning environments that integrate and internalize the external learning into the
unique cognition of each learner. The resulting system creates a learning system design that is aligned with the natural learning
processes of the brain.

Synopsis
This inaugural edited collection for the Communicating Responsible Diversity, Equality, and Inclusion series presents new critical
discourse alongside cutting-edge practical work at the crossroads of PR, CSR, and DEI. The collection explores the active promotion
of diversity, equity, and inclusion as a public relations responsibility and provides new avenues for critiquing the ways in which power
operates through public relations work and theory building.

Featuring contributions from leading scholars from across the PR, CSR, and DEI fields, Public Relations for Social Responsibility
explores key issues including the legal and economic frameworks thwarting authentic social responsibility and DEI, the unique social
responsibility style of women and people of color managing organizations, expanding the social responsibility critique to include
non-human stakeholders and the environment.

Chapters illuminate national and industrial contexts at the intersection of PR, CSR and DEI, including historical perspective on DEI
roadblocks in the U.S., PR in the time of COVID-19 crises, organizational bullying, DEI, AI and PR ethics, animals as stakeholders,
inclusion as CSR component, CEO activism on the African continent, and PR’s responsibility in transforming society.

The collection will introduce new conceptual and practical approaches highly relevant to scholars of Communication, Management
and Corporate Social Responsibility in a global context.

Synopsis
Democratic politics depend on citizen participation, trust and support. While this support in democratic institutions and political
elites is declining, public and scholarly discourse frequently suggests counteracting the challenge by strengthening the role of
experts in political decision-making, yet such reform proposals convey a paternalistic threat that contravenes fundamental
democratic principles.
Proposing an alternative, ‘radical proceduralist’ understanding of democratic legitimacy and institutional reform, Radical
Proceduralism argues that there is no such thing as ‘political truth’ or ‘correctness’ that could justify experts wielding political power.
Rather, the only criterion for democratic legitimacy is the fair and equal inclusion of all affected citizens.
Radical Proceduralism bridges the gap between political philosophy and practical institutional experimentation asking us to bring
citizens back in and to engage them in a dialogue about ‘the rules of the democratic game’ and proposing institutional devices that
figure as ‘conversation starters’ and facilitate such dialogues.

Synopsis
Over the last forty years, running has grown from a niche sport for a handful of committed club athletes into one of the Western
world’s most popular pastimes. In Running, Identity and Meaning, Neil Baxter asks: What kinds of people have been drawn to
running in such numbers? What do they seek from the sport? And what does running’s popularity tell us about ourselves and the
society we live in today?

Delving into the great paradox of running: that despite its low cost of entry and inclusive ethos, the sport remains riven by
inequalities, Baxter showcases how gender, class, age and ethnicity influence whether and how different groups participate in the
sport, and explores its role in the reproduction of social structure and the search for distinction. By considering running
simultaneously as a technique of self-cultivation, a social field in which forms of capital and status are at stake, and an important
source of meaning and identity for millions of people across the world, this book equips readers to understand the many diverse
links between the sport, society, and individual identities.

Synopsis
What are some of the most distinctive features of the crisis characterising the social sciences learning today? Can a crisis of this
deep-rooted and extremely wide-ranging nature be delimitated to a few specific areas? Can the social sciences diverse dilemmas be
reduced to the feature of crisis alone?

This book argues that the social sciences are in a deep state of crisis. Kléber Ghimire analyzes how some of the basic problems
began from the very inception: uncritical use of empiricism and experimentation methods emulating the natural sciences, internal
fragmentation of knowledge along narrow disciplinary lines, and near-exclusive emphasis on the experience of industrial societies. As
these difficulties persist, more recent evolutions have brought additional troubles. With a focus on Europe, North America and Asia,
Kléber Ghimire examines the effects of university reforms that give prominence to expertise-oriented research, economic rationality
and occupational skill development, leading to a widespread neglect of the social and human studies.
The book ends with a call to reflect upon opening a new horizon for these fields of learning, especially by inventing a new era of
social sciences pedagogy, leaving natural sciences for humanities and recognizing the value of culture as a crucial reservoir of social
knowledge.

Synopsis
New practitioners of change management will benefit from the easy to follow, practical, and implementable approach to working
through the change process. Focusing on the most intractable and unpredictable aspect of change: the human aspect.
The leadership approaches that are most effective in change are presented. Explanations of why wide involvement is necessary and
the methods to produce that kind of engagement are provided. Organizational culture is explored both as an enabler and barrier to
change as well as how to leverage the benefits of the culture and minimize its barriers to the change.

Team for Change is a great companion to any change methods because it addresses the usual problems, thorny nature and
multiple complexities that traditional change management methods do not.
