A Message from the Interim Superintendent
Hello KCKPS Family,
The school year has come to a close. And, as we reflect on the past year, we can be thankful
for so many things.
Through our collective efforts, we were able to reopen schools and transition most students
to in-person instruction. The smooth transition from remote learning was made possible
through the hard work of school administrators, parents, guardians, teachers, and school
support staff. It was so nice to be able to walk through the hallways of our schools and see
students filling the classrooms once again.
I also want to thank staff with the Unified Government Public Health Department for
including district staff in the first phase of the vaccine distribution plan. This made it possible
for so many of our employees to be vaccinated.
Summer School
Now, our next step is preparing for summer school. Recent academic assessments revealed
Dr. Alicia Miguel that many of our students experienced disruptions and some learning loss during remote
learning. To address this disruption, the District has implemented a comprehensive general
Interim Superintendent of Schools education summer school program for students in Early Childhood through grade 12.
Early Childhood through eighth-grade Students will receive instruction in literacy and math
to ensure learning gaps are addressed over the summer. High school students will have an opportunity to make up fourth-quarter failing grades
and receive credit recovery through the use of a blended curriculum which includes online courses.
While the number of instructional challenges that students have faced from months of remote learning are significant, we remain committed to
getting our students and school district back on track to being proficient. Our focused leadership has identified these gaps in teaching and
learning and will use assessment data to raise academic achievement and development during our summer school program.
Remember, we must continue to be conscientious as we continue to take covid safety precautions. Please make sure you have conversations
with your child about practicing good hygiene and wearing masks when and where they are required. The safety and health of our students and
staff is at the forefront of our planning as we transition to some sense of normalcy throughout the district.
As your interim superintendent, I want to thank you all for your collaboration and support. It has truly been a pleasure leading this wonderful
school district through the other side of this pandemic. Let’s continue to grow and show excellence!
