Close Monaco Street under I-70 for bridge work for approximately one month
Close Monaco Street south of Stapleton Drive South for approximately four months
to rebuild the intersection

Restrict lanes overnight on I-70 between Quebec Street and Chambers Road for
roadway work
Please keep in mind these activities are weather-dependent and subject to change.
Learn more about traffic and construction impacts on our website.
Construction activities will be happening day and night. Activities that occur overnight
will be within the noise variance limits of 75-decibel hourly average (noise level of a
vacuum) with an allowable spike up to 86 decibels (noise level of heavy traffic). To make
a complaint about construction noise during the night, call the 24-hour hotline at 833-
C70-INFO (833-270-4636). DDPHE regulates the noise variance and residents may also call
the city at 3-1-1. There is additional information about the variance here.

March 1, the Project team will be observing National Women in Construction week and

Project. From equipment operators,
designers, engineers and construction
managers to administrative assistance,
communicators and workforce
representatives, the team would not be
what it is today without the
hardworking team of women we have
representing this Project.
With 15 years of experience in the
industry, Donna Haight, Central 70
Utility Manager is responsible for
managing the thousands of utilities that
need to be relocated and replaced
along the 10-mile corridor such as fiber
optics, electric, gas, water and sanitary facilities.
"I am proud to be one of the many women working on this Project. I really enjoy my job -
it's such a unique environment and the every-day challenges keep me on my toes. Seeing
the final product come together truly is amazing."
Changes for Chips & Chat
The monthly Chips & Chat meeting is under construction! The Central 70 Team is working
to restructure this community meeting to get more members of the public involved.
Chips and Chat will not be held in March and April, but will reconvene in May (the
second Tuesday of the month) with an exciting new format. Experts building the Central
70 Project will now be taking attendees on a mini-Project tour throughout the summer.
But don’t worry, guests can still expect delicious food from Tacos El Huequito as we will
plan on meeting there before the tour.

Winter Weather
Challenges
Snow is falling, the wind is blowing, and
temperatures are consistently low but
that isn’t stopping the construction
team on the Central 70 Project from
working. Winter weather in Colorado
provides unique challenges to
construction every year. Commuters
may have noticed the increased wear
and tear on the roads from continual
snowfall, plowing and distribution of ice
melt on the roadway. These factors
cause lane striping to wear away. We
are constantly monitoring the roadway
to identify where striping enhancements can be made and making emergency fixes.
During colder months, please keep in mind the following challenges we face in road
striping maintenance:

under emergency situations
Water-based paint must be used on the road when it is cold because epoxy paint
requires the temperature to be 40 degrees for 24 hours straight to dry and adhere
to the pavement
Water-based paint reacts with snow causing it to wear away
Water-based paint can freeze in the paint truck when temperatures are below 32
degrees
The paint does not adhere to wet ground
Despite this, we are constantly monitoring the weather and roadway conditions to
implement striping fixes when possible, while trying to minimize delays for the traveling
public. We are also looking for other solutions as we know winter weather isn’t going
anywhere soon! In some areas, the team is able to place reflective tabs in the pavement
as a temporary measure when temperatures do not allow for striping. If you ever see

Jarrell Dotson
Jarrell Dotson has worked his way up
through Kiewit over the last year and a
half. Starting as a carpenter, he is now
the Craft Voice in Safety (CVIS) leader.
He’s responsible for ensuring the
construction craft team builds the
Central 70 Project safely, from the gear
they wear on the field to how they
operate the construction equipment.
While Jarrell’s day is typically filled
with meetings, tours and new hire
check-ins, his favorite part of working
on the Project is building lasting
relationships with the construction craft team.

In his free time, he enjoys spoiling his two dogs, watching movies and spending time with
friends and family. You may have to fight Jarrell over who gets the last helping of
seafood or soul food, because those are his favorite dishes. But they take second place in
his heart after his mom’s home cooking. If he had the option to live a week in the past or
the future, he’d live one week in the past because he’d want to spend more time with
his mom. Some day (in the future), Jarrell wants to see the world, with his first stop
being Egypt to see the Giza pyramids.

Project Overview
The Central 70 Project will reconstruct a 10-mile stretch of I-70 between Brighton
Boulevard and Chambers Road, add one new Express Lane in each direction, remove the
aging, 56-year-old viaduct, lower the interstate between Brighton and Colorado
boulevards and place a 4-acre park over a portion of the lowered interstate.

Desafíos de clima

Está nevando, sopla el viento y las
temperaturas son consistentemente
bajas, pero eso no impide que el equipo
de construcción del Proyecto Central 70
trabaje. El clima invernal en Colorado
ofrece desafíos únicos para la
construcción cada año. Los
automovilistas pueden haber notado el
aumento del desgaste en las carreteras
debido a la continua nevada, los
quitanieves y la distribución de hielo
derretido en la carretera. Estos factores
hacen que el trazado de líneas se
desgaste. Estamos constantemente monitoreando el camino para identificar dónde se
pueden hacer mejoras de trazado de líneas y hacer arreglos de emergencia. Durante los
meses más fríos, tenga en cuenta los siguientes desafíos que enfrentamos en el
mantenimiento de las carreteras:
Kiewit tiene prohibido cerrar carriles en la I-70 durante el día a menos que se
encuentre en situaciones de emergencia
La pintura a base de agua debe usarse en la carretera cuando hace frío porque la
pintura epoxi requiere que la temperatura sea de 40 grados durante 24 horas
directamente para secar y adherirse al pavimento

Jarrell Dotson ha trabajado en Kiewit

Jarrell quiere ver el mundo, con su primera parada en Egipto para ver las pirámides de
Giza.
