Winter clearance
• As part of preparations for the railway, we need to clear a number of sites along the route. This will
include essential removal of hedgerows, scrubland and woodland for delivery of HS2, alongside
construction of site fencing.
• Clearance work commenced in October 2019 and will continue until March 2020. We need to complete
this work within this window to ensure we avoid important periods in the ecological calendar. This will
avoid delays as we approach main construction.
• We have taken steps to minimise the amount of vegetation we have to clear as much as possible, as
well as replacing all habitats as we proceed.
• Due to the postponement of Ancient Woodlands activity, we need to progress these works now to
ensure we do not delay construction starting in 2020.Making sure we do it right
• Through a rigorous assurance process, we have queried our scope
of work to minimise our impact on the land and surrounding
communities. This includes multiple site visits.
• We have asked ourselves questions such as:
• Is the site safe for us and the general public?
• Can we access the site safely?
• Are we confident that clearing this section is essential for the
project to proceed?
• Are there waterways nearby and how are we protecting them?
• Have we found any protected species nearby? How will we
keep them safe?
• If we postpone this work, will it lead to cost increases or
programme delays?Interchange area Update *Dates and works outlined in this presentation have the potential to change; all timeline/work changes will be communicated

The map outlines the location of earthworks, surveys and
utility works, which will be phased between January and
March 2020, on Northway Island, and the B4438, A452
and A446. The majority of traffic measures associated
with these works will be carried out overnight.
To minimise disruption during these works, we will:
• Maintain all building access in the area
• Carry out the majority of our traffic measures
overnight
• Ensure clear signage is in place for drivers
• Keep the highways network operational
• Phase our works to avoid overburdening the network
• Leave the area in a tidy state when works are
complete
• Provide you with information on our works in advance
