PROCEDURES
REGULAR CLEANING/SANITATION/DISINFECTING
St Andrew has hired a cleaning service that will deep clean all the floors, walls,
hallways, classrooms, entryways and bathrooms prior to the first day of school.
Each night the school will be cleaned, sanitized and disinfected the common areas
used by our students. In addition to their regular cleaning and sanitizing, this service
will mist disinfectant throughout the school using a mist sprayer that has been Covid-
19 rated.
Sanitizer is available in each classroom and entryways. Teachers will dispense the
hand sanitizer so students will not have to touch anything.
Signs will be posted throughout the school regarding the methods to prevent the
spread of the virus and highlighting good hygienic practices.
ARRIVAL PROCEDURES FOR STUDENTS AND FACULTY
All faculty and students will have their temperatures taken and symptoms assessed
before they enter the school building. If anyone is found to exhibit symptoms such as
fever, nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, excessive, dry cough, unexplained fatigue, etc, they
will not be allowed to attend school. Please note that the symptom list is not
exhaustive.
Students with symptoms will have to wait outside until parents can pick them up. In
the case of inclement weather, students will wait in a designated, isolated indoor area.
Teachers will meet the students at various entrances to the school in order to keep the
numbers of students down to a minimum. There will be no more than 50 students
entering at any given time.
Kindergarten and first grade will enter in the North door of the grammar wing, the
entrance closest to the black top.
Second, Third and Fourth grades will enter the SE door with the stairs by the gym and
come directly downstairs.
Fifth, Sixth and Seventh grades will enter in the main north entrance.
Eighth and ninth-twelfth grades will enter in the west ramp entrance overlooking the
playground.
This procedure will limit the number of people congregating at any one entrance and
facilitate greater social distancing. Each student will go to their respective rest rooms
to wash thoroughly.
1I. NORMAL DAILY SAFETY AND SANITATION
PROCEDURES CONT.
CLASSROOMS/HALLWAYS
We will distribute desks as far apart as possible. Each student has their own individual
desk and their own individual cubby or locker. In the hallway each student has a
designated place to hang their coats. Students will eat their lunch at their desk.
Students typically remain in the same classroom throughout the day with the same
students. If a specialized teacher needs to meet with the class, the teacher will travel
to the classroom and take the necessary precautions, such as handwashing, before
entering. We will maintain social distancing as much as possible.
Cloth masks are not required, but they are permitted and encouraged for use by
students, teachers, staff and visitors. We are leaving the discretion for use to the
parent’s wishes.
Classroom materials used by several classes, such as art, music and physical education
will be cleaned and sanitized before each use.
Students will be washing their hands periodically during the day, before and after
lunch, after they have gone to a different classroom such as the art annex, music room
or gym.
RECESS
The classes are again separated when going out to recess. There will be no more than
50 students outside at any given time and once outside the teachers will instruct each
class to spread out as much as possible. When students re-enter the building they will
go directly to the rest rooms to wash their hands.
SECURITY
St Andrew has installed a doorbell security system on the main north door of our
campus. It has a camera that feeds into a monitor in the secretary’s office. Once the
students are all in the building by 8:05am the doors will lock. Any person who comes
to the school after that time will need to ring the doorbell and wait until the secretary
acknowledges them. Once they state their reason for being at the school she will meet
them at the door to let them in and take their temperature. They then go directly to
the office to sign in, telling us what they are there to do, how long they plan to be in
the school. Once finished visitors will go back to the office to sign out and leave the
building.
EVENTS
When having an all school event, we will social distance, encourage use of masks and
keep students/teachers in an area of less than 50 people. If possible, such events will
be held outside.
2II. NORMAL TEACHING AND LEARNING
PROCEDURES
PRIMARY MEASURES
All students will be taught on campus.
Primary instruction will be held in person at the school.
Teachers will wear face shields.
Teachers will keep online platforms (Google Classroom and Class Dojo) updated with
school assignments, asynchronous lesson videos and announcements for absent
students.
Teachers will provide weekly written plans in case of absence or quarantine.
Teachers will minimize student hallway traffic via staggered dismissal and teacher
transitions (teacher moves, class stays in classroom) where possible.
SECONDARY MEASURES
If there is a significant drop in student population, the following measures would be
taken at the discretion of the administrative and school board teams.
K- 12th grades would move to a blocked learning schedule, letting students in school
and at home focus on fewer classes/ assignments a day.
K-7th grades would primarily instruct in person with online resources for absent or
quarantined students.
Non-Core classes (art, music, PE, Latin, Spanish) would either be limited, becoming
pass/fail based on participation, or excused for the semester.
8th-12th instruction would be split among optional in class instruction, online
instruction and tutoring (either online or in person).
TERTIARY MEASURES
Under the advice of the administration, school board and state, we transition 8th-12th
grades into a combination of online and (in-person) small group tutoring.
K-7th would remain on campus, spread out among the Primary School Wing, the Main
Wing, the High School Wing and the gym.
K-7th grades would primarily instruct in person with online resources for absent or
quarantined students. 8th- 12th grade students would be taught core classes in a
blocked learning schedule, focusing on three subjects (maximum) a day.
Students would be expected to attend synchronous online classes daily for up to 2
hours a day, participating in class discussions or lectures verbally or through instant
messaging or chat. Absences must be excused by parent or doctor.
8th and 9/10 students would be taught in the mornings via synchronous online
classes and would have optional afternoon small group in person instruction. 11/12
would be offered optional small group in person tutoring in the morning and taught
in the afternoons via synchronous online classes.
Up to three groups of 5 students will be allowed to come to school for in-person
small group tutoring in the annexes.
Students who participate in small group tutoring must wear masks, must wash hands
upon arrival and must practice social distancing.
Students who do not come in for small group tutoring must check in at least 3 times a
week with teachers during office hours in addition to mandatory online classes.
