Briefly describe one or two things you liked about the presentation. 31 responses

Very appropriate examples; Deb knows enough of this history she could teach the class

The examples and hands-on instruction.

Monica presented the information is a very clear, organized manner. She showed the appropriate links
and methods of researching my students' topics.

Marco was enthusiastic and had relevant knowledge about art/archaeology from his own experience
studying anthropology.

Very informative, I learned alot about (myself) about how to find helpful articles.

Monica did a lot to encourage the students' excitement about research and showed them how to find
meaningful results rather than simply adhering to the assignment.

It was just enough information for students to process

Information covered. How to search. And that once they learn this transferring to another school this
skill will transfer.

I enjoy Deb's lesson on Boolean phrasing and how she asks the class for any examples of things they
want to search for her to use in her lesson on the databases.

I love Deb's lesson on Boolean phrasing and how she helps students with navigating Academic Search
Premier.
Review of databases and how to cite sources correctly

Help with research databases and how to cite sources

Ms. Wallace was thorough in her coverage of the library's resources.

Sukena has an engaging presentation style. My students and I appreciated her use of appropriate
humor.

thorough, yet to the point + great sense of humor

Very knowledgeable and Marco always goes extra miles to help teacher and students. I had many
presentations with him, but each time I learn something new.

I liked that Mara showed the class the different elements of the library website. I also appreciated that
she gave students an overview of the various databases.

Very easy to follow. Very pleasant and enthusiastic presentation.

Information and friendliness of the librarian

creating a page online for our course and walking the students through the process from A-z

well organized, thorough, and useful info

The research guide and detailed explanation of each database was wonderful!

The librarian navigated around the library and introduced all parts of the facility.

Mara was detailed in her tour, such as mentioning the Library hours and Recharging station. I appreciate
that she does a hands on activity by having students actually look up a book then book for it in the
Stacks.

I liked how Lorraine took the time to give my students a brief tour of the library before our orientation
session began. For many of my students, it was their first time at the library. I also liked the way
Lorraine conducted the session. She was clear and easy to follow, and my students were able to
understand how to navigate the college’s library page.

Quick and informative

Thorough and had examples ready

Monica was prepared with sample topics relating to our field and she would give the direction of "how
to..." followed by a quick review of what she just showed on the screen.

Chock full of information!

Paula gave the students a clear introduction to the different online tools, and then gave them time to
explore on their own. She was available for questions while they explored and worked on their
bibliography.

Monica has wonderful energy as a presenter and great enthusiasm for the research process.
Do you have any suggestions for improvement? 24 responses

no, it was very good

Perhaps taking a tour of the library, particularly where the dance literature is found.

A bit more time at the end for hands on instruction -- or time after each section of the guide, so students
can try out the techniques on their own and then ask questions.

None at this time

No. It was great. Actually would love a canvas quiz to use that we could download and embed in our
courses. Something general. Something we could download then we could modify adding some
questions or leaving just general.

Nothing. Deb is great!

Nope.

With the best of intentions, Ms. Wallace lengthened the session from 60 minutes to 90 minutes.
However, she did not consult with me before making this change. In the future, I would suggest sending
an email to the instructor ahead of time.

It is not at all Sukena's fault, but the temperature in LC 62 was too hot. Several students became
uncomfortable.

volume a bit higher

very happy with the what library is providing support for teachers. specially for evening class. Keep the
good work.

no, she was terrific!

add a personal note of why you ready and why you enjoy library work

We would also like to see the success center next time but understood that because of time constraints,
we were not able to visit the center.

Since there's a practice, her tours actually need about 45-1 hour of time.

No improvements needed. The entire session was extremely helpful to me and my students.

A bit more time at the end for students to work on their bibliographies and ask questions would have
been great.

interests? 31 responses

Which online resources and/or handouts will your students find most useful? 30 responses

The online research guide for HIST 210

The databases

Gale, Ebsco

EBSCO (Art Full Text and Academic Search Premier); we'd like a more robust JSTOR subscription.

All, specif to their topic

The details about how to effectively use database search boxes.

Databases; ebooks; how to access materials from home

I’m not certain. I’ll ask them what they are using. But that too could go into canvas as a survey

The Research Guide!

The Research Guide! I feel really special when the librarian makes me a Research Guide.

All handouts

All handouts provided
Due to the nature of their topics, probably the research databases.

Most likely, the Library's research databases.

articles from databases

The page specially made for my class and posted on library resource page.

The Featured Guide for my students.

online book research and general info handout

I think the pop culture data base will be very useful for them, as well as newspapers. The

It is too soon to tell which handout is best.

ESL and computers

The guide Lorraine created specifically for my class has been the most useful. My students have referred
back to the guide for help on their research paper.

Library website with access to peer reviewed journals

Key word search

data bases

The list of databases

The library website has so much information on each page that the students get lost sometimes. It
would be great to reduce the amount of text on each page and make the resources on the library guides
a bit easier to find.

The students were having good luck finding articles through Art Full Text.

Are there other resources or research skills you would like to see presented?23 responses

Purdue Owl

Not off the top of my head.

If we had more time, we might go into finding scholarly reviews and/or doing citation research when
evaluating a history monograph.

No, very thorough!

no

A 30 minute session on web site credibility; exploration of checklists and sites that seem credible but
upon further digging are not.

Nope. It covered it all.

I can't think of anything.
Nope.

discuss MLA citation-making a bit more

Just want to push students to use more the resource library has. So the workshop Library provides is
very useful.

More information on online MLA formatting resources

helping students understand peer reviewed sources

more specific details and/or examples on the 1-2 data bases

No, there was a lot of useful information presented.

Not at this time.

Specifics of primary and secondary sources

The librarians used to show Easy Bib during the orientations. I'm not sure if we still have a subscription,
but I think it would be helpful to students.

Thank you, Deb!

Thank you!

Marco's energy was great!

Thank you - I'm excited for my students to have worked with Monica and to see how enthusiastic she is
about research and learning.

Not at this time. Thanks.

Sukena was very helpful and responsive.

Love what library doing to support teachers and students. Mobile device is students use the most.
Maybe add something in that area.

Lorraine was awesome- thank you!

Thanks, Lynda!

My students are only at high school level or lower. Maybe they can have more time to practice working
on the search engines or database.

Mara is lovely, gracious, and well versed in all aspects Library related!

Thank you, Lorraine, for such a helpful and welcoming orientation session. My students loved the
session and learned so much from it. On a side note: I found the session helpful for me as well. Even
instructors need a bit of a refresher on how to navigate the database.

Thanks Deb!

We appreciate the work that the library provides for our students and the support given to our
department.
