3. COURSE DESCRIPTION
It is intended that the student acquires an overview of the implications of the various systemic diseases
in dental activity. The program develops review of systemic diseases, the study of the pathophysiology,
symptomology and more specifically the orofacial area. The study of the treatment of these diseases
are focused on their interaction and effects on dental pathologies, finally they consider the limitations
of interventional medical and dental treatment in these patients.
The student will recognize the factors that define medically compromised patients ( high medical risk,
difficulty in handling, oral lesions characteristic of their systemic pathology and the interaction between
systemic pathology and the interaction between systemic pathology and dental treatment.

CG-22 Have the capacity to prepare an initial diagnostic trial and establish a reasoned diagnostic
strategy, being competent in the recognition of situations that require urgent dental care.
CG-23 Establish the diagnosis, prognosis and adequate therapeutic planning in all clinical areas of
Dentistry, being competent in the diagnosis, prognosis and development of the dental treatment plan
of the patient that requires special care, including medically compromised patients ( such as
diabetics, hypertensive patients, immunosuppressed, anticoagulated, among others) and patients
with disabilities

procedures should be based on the concept of minimal invasion and on a comprehensive
and integrated approach to oral dental treatment.

of limited complexity in patients qith special needs ( diabetic, hypertensive,oncological,
transplanted, immunocompromised, anticoagulated,among others) or disabled.

CE 37-1 For the establishment of an adequate treatment the dentis must be competent in the appropiate
prescription of drugs, knowing their con traindications,interactions, systemic effects and
repercussions on other organs.
2.- LEARNING OUTCOMES:

Identify, prevent and treat risk factors and buco-dental problems secondary to their systemic disorders
Develop the proposed treatment plan adapted to each pathology dental considerations involved, taking
into account the limitations of each student
Detect risk situations that this group of patients can present and tailor treatment in order to avoid
iatrogenic and secondary complications.
Knowing the medical emergencies and complications that can present this type of patients and
establish action plans.
Knowing the oral effects of HIV-AIDS, cardiovascular, hematologic, digestive, respiratory, renal and
endocrine-metabolic disease.
Knowing the protocols in the dental practice to the different pathologies and systemic changes
necessary to treat such patients.
Knowing the oral manifestations of psychotherapy and certain drugs and drug interactions of special
interest in dentistry

2. - DESCRIPTION OF LEARNING ACTIVITIES:
Activity Definition
The teacher will present aspects of introduction to the different theorical blokcs of
Master class the subject as well as their integration. Support materials will be used (documents
that will be distributed in class and digitized that will be disseminated through the
student’s portal).

The teacher exposes the topics corresponding to the program. Seminars will be
taught following the program of the subject developing the knowledge raised in the
Seminars master class with the active participation of students. Support materials will be used

Academic tutorials will be conducted preferably aimed at knowledge acquisition
Academic skills, learning skills acquisition competence and knowledge communication
tutorials competence.. The instructions of the work to be done by te student will be reinforced
and also at the student’s request, all the difficulties that may arise in the learning
process will be addressed.

6. ASSESMENT OF LEARNING
1.- CLASS ATTENDANCE:
In order to be eligible for examination by continuous assessment students must attend at
least 75% of scheduled class time (attendance sheets will be used). As students may be
absent 25% of the classes, no attenuating circumstances will be accepted for absences.
100% attendance at seminars is required to pass the subject.

ORDINARY CALL. CONTINUOUS ASSESSMENT:
Ordinary exam • The objectives of knowledge will be assessed through written questions
reasoning exercises and individual work. They may be submitted only to the first
students who have met the minimum criteria of class attendance (75%). one or
two written exercises reasoning questions (dates will be available during the first
days of class) will be made.
• To release the material included in these examinations it is necessary to obtain
a higher rating than 70% of the questions
• There will be the possibility that a student will present the final exam if you want
to improve your score or to pass the subject.
• a final test of the entire program of the subject being due exceed 70% to pass
will be made.
• practical examination of cases followed in the clinic will be conducted during the
development of practices.
• Students must pass the final test to evaluate other parameters of evaluation.
• Attendance and participation in seminars is mandatory.
Extraordinary exam:
Extraordinary exam Students who do not pass the subject in the ordinary call, be submitted to final exam resit,
covering all matter contained in the subject, as well as tests for assessing the practices
developed during the course will be held, which will consist in cases of patients seen
during the school year.
• The extraordinary examination may include questions relating to seminars and cases
developed during the course.
In the rating of the resit the established percentages will not apply in the continuous
evaluation

TOPIC 5. Dental Management of cancer patients
TOPIC 6. Dental management of patients with respiratory problems.
TOPIC 7. Management Dental patient with renal pathology. patient and transplanted
TOPIC 8. Dental management of patients with digestive-hepatic pathology.
TOPIC 9. Dental management of patients with autoimmune diseases.
TOPIC 10 Dental Management of Patients in other special situations. Pregnancy and lactation.
TOPIC 11. Dental management of patients with neurological and psychiatric disorders and patients with psycho-
physical disabilities.
TOPIC 12: Management of patients treated with bisphosphonates
PRACTICAL WORK PROGRAMME:
Development on special patient models of the following aspects of the dental clinic:
1. The various diagnostic and therapeutic procedures comprehensively in each.
2. The correct medical history, diagnosis of the disease and the various plans
Treatment.
3. The, decision definitive treatment plan, budgeting, monitoring proposed as definitive treatment plan.
4. Coordination of the maintenance plan and monitoring the patient once it is completed.
5. Synthesis of dental aspects to consider in each special case.

9. ATTITUDE IN THE CLASSROOM
1.- REGULATIONS
Any irregular act of academic integrity (no reference to cited sources, plagiarism of work or
inappropriate use of prohibited information during examinations) or signing the attendance sheet
for fellow students not present in class will result in the student not being eligible for continuous
assessment and possibly being penalized according to the University regulations.
10. EXCEPTIONAL MEASURES
Should an exceptional situation occur which prevents continuing with face-to-face teaching
under the conditions previously established to this end, the University will take appropriate
decisions and adopt the necessary measures to guarantee the acquisition of skills and
