Today we are going to be focusing on carefully counting the sides of
2D shapes. Children should be encouraged to develop strategies for
accurate counting of sides, such as marking each side as it has been
counted. Children also need to understand that not all same-sided
shapes look the same, such as irregular 2-D shapes.
                                    Mathematical talk
                                    Here are some questions you can ask to support learning;
What is a side? How can you check that you have counted all the
sides? Do all four-sided shapes look the same? Why do you think the
shapes have the names that they do?
                                    Counting sides on 2D shapes
We have uploaded the WhiteRose worksheet and the Primary Stars
sheet (pick the star level you feel comfortable with). You do not need
                                    to do all worksheets.

Baleen Plates – bristly plates in the whale’s mouth which act like a sieve.
They help the whale eat the krill and drain the water from its mouth.

Today you are going to be nature reporters just like David Attenborough.

Firstly, listen to his amazing story from Little People Big Dreams:
David Attenborough

Today you are going to be a nature reporter for the BBC. Your team has
just sighted and filmed incredible images of a blue whale!! It’s your job to
tell everyone who is watching about a blue whale. Use the facts you have
learnt this week and include your own fun facts too! We would love to see
you performing your nature report! You will only need to speak for about
1 minute. Write a script writing what you will say before you act out
being the nature reporter!

Your film to speak over:

Did you watch the landing of Perseverance? Here’s a great chance to watch it
again with some great footage of the planet Mars and a heart-warming
celebration from the NASA team.
NASA
For our science lesson today, we are going to be linking the exciting news of
Perseverance landing on Mars to our Habitats topic!
You will be thinking about creating a shelter on Mars for humans to live in.
You can present your work in any way you wish; a drawing, junk modelling,
drawing via computer software etc be as creative as you wish!

You will need to think back to our previous science lessons about living things
and what they need to survive so that you can provide all the things that
humans need for example, water, food, shelter, oxygen etc.

As well as containing all of the living space that people will need, the building
will need a place for the machinery that is needed to extract water from the
surface of Mars and also to create oxygen using some of the water. There will
also need to be a place to grow plants and raise animals. Have fun!
