Central 70 Gives Back
The Central 70 team is kicking off the holiday season by giving back to the local
community. This past month, the Project team has been collecting coats and blankets
that were donated to the Samaritan House near Colorado Boulevard near the Central 70
Project. Altogether, more than 70 coats and blankets were collected. The team is looking
forward to continuing to give back through the holiday season by partnering with Toys for
Tots in December to collect toys for families in need.

Cover Construction
“Winter is coming” (cue the “Game of Thrones” theme song), but that doesn’t mean the
construction season is over! Crews continue to build the future eastbound lanes of I-70,
reconstruct York Street between 47th and 48th avenues and prepare for the installation
of bridge beams (girders) for the southern half of the 4-acre cover park between
Columbine and Clayton streets.
In preparation for opening the future eastbound lanes, 600 retaining structures, normally
referred to as caissons, need to be installed for the wall panel foundation that supports
this portion of the highway, separating the eastbound lanes of I-70 and the new 46th
South Avenue. For both eastbound and westbound lanes, there are nearly 1,100 caissons
to drill.
While building these future lanes of I-70, crews have also been reconstructing York Street
between 47th and 48th avenues. This reconstruction includes railroad repairs, new
sidewalks and new roadway.

In mid-November, construction

crews will set girders for the
southern half of the cover park,
between Clayton and Columbine
streets. These girders are large
concrete beams that will support
the bridge deck, or surface,
where the park will be located.
In total, 328 girders will be set.
To date, there have been 183
girders installed on the northern
half of the park. Each girder is
about 100 feet long and weighs
about 150,000 pounds! Crews will
continue placing girders for the southern half of the park through early 2022. Once they
are in place, construction of the bridge deck can begin!
The park will be complete in early 2023. Please find more information about this exciting
element of the Central 70 Project on our website.
Meet the Team - Quinton Taylor
Quinton Taylor is the Cover Top Superintendent on the Central 70 Project. He has been
working for Kiewit Building Group since 2014 and has enjoyed working alongside other
Kiewit districts gaining experience with how a major infrastructure job operates.
Quinton is constantly pursuing challenging projects with Kiewit, as this forces him to
learn, adapt and grow. If Quinton wasn’t a superintendent with Kiewit Building Group, he
would be an industrial designer. At home, he is the fixer upper master and is working on
home improvement projects (no need to call Joanna Gaines!). In his free time, you can
find him outside. He enjoys golfing, soccer, hiking with his family and playing ultimate
frisbee.

Drive Safe This Winter
Cold weather is here and there are a few things you can do to prepare you and your
vehicle for winter road conditions. Consider the list below to be winter-ready!
Keep extra cold-weather gear in your car in case of emergencies

Project Overview
The Central 70 Project will reconstruct a 10-mile stretch of I-70 between Brighton
Boulevard and Chambers Road, add one new Express Lane in each direction, remove the
aging, 57-year-old viaduct, lower the interstate between Brighton and Colorado
boulevards and place a 4-acre park over a portion of the lowered interstate.

Construcción del Parque Cubierto
"Se acerca el invierno" (ponga el tema principal de la serie "Game of Thrones"), ¡pero eso
no significa que la temporada de construcción haya terminado! Las cuadrillas continúan
construyendo los futuros carriles hacia el este de la I-70, reconstruyen la calle York entre
las avenidas 47 y 48 y se preparan para la instalación de vigas de puente para la mitad
sur del parque cubierto de 4 acres entre las calles Columbine y Clayton.
En preparación para la apertura de los futuros carriles hacia el este, se deben instalar
600 estructuras de retención, normalmente denominadas cajones, para la base del panel

Quinton Taylor es el superintendente del parque cubierto del Proyecto Central 70. Ha
estado trabajando para Kiewit Building Group desde 2014 y ha disfrutado trabajando
junto con otros distritos de Kiewit adquiriendo experiencia con el funcionamiento de una
obra de infraestructura importante. Quinton persigue constantemente proyectos
desafiantes con Kiewit, ya que esto lo obliga a aprender, adaptarse y crecer. Si Quinton
no fuera superintendente de Kiewit Building Group, sería diseñador industrial. En casa,
él es el maestro de reparaciones y está trabajando en proyectos de mejoras para el

Cronograma del Proyecto
El Proyecto Central 70 reconstruirá un tramo de 10 millas de la I-70 entre el Bulevar
