Easton Cross, Chagford TQ13 8JL
A totally unique property that offers immense scope and potential as either one
large home, two large homes or a great basis for a B and B or small hotel. Grade II
listed and brimming with character and charm and situated in the Dartmoor National
Park. Eight bedrooms, four reception rooms, seven bathrooms, parking for a
number of cars and a plot size of approx 0.9 of an acre.

Description
This Grade II listed property originally dates from the 16th century, with the original
longhouse being thatch roofed and the other more modern part being under slate.
With the accommodation laid out in its current configuration there are eight
bedrooms with two of them being on the ground floor seven of these bedrooms are
ensuite either. There are also four large reception rooms all with beautiful character
features including stone fireplaces and exposed beams. The library is a particular
feature with delightful period bookcases.

If one wanted to return the house to a business then the current layout would suit this very well. Recently however
the owner has made some alterations including another internal staircase and has replaced the one large boiler with
two new ones. This means that anyone looking for intergenerational living could have two similar sized properties
separate from each other but right next door, this would require another kitchen however there is ample space
available for this to be done.

Outside to the side of the longhouse is a delightful formal garden area with a granite wall to one side and a hedge the
other, there are a number of flower beds and privet hedges. Further round is the main portion of garden currently laid
to lawn for easy maintenance, beyond this is a wild garden with a fish pond.

To the front of the house through a gate is an enclosed parking area large enough for four cars.

The property was run as a hotel for many years and during the 1930’s and 1940’s was very popular with literary figures
including Evelyn Waugh writer of Brideshead Revisited and John Stienbeck. The current owner has the original guest
books from this time which are a fascinating look back into the property’s past.

Chagford
The picturesque old market town of Chagford lies deep in the Dartmoor National Park
and is a superb location from which to access the open spaces of the high moor as
well as the wooded, pastoral landscape of the nearby Teign Valley. With a thriving
community, it has a comprehensive range of shops and other facilities including, inns,
a primary school, medical, dental and veterinary facilities and churches. Despite the
deeply rural atmosphere of the town, the A30 dual carriageway is only approximately
5 miles away for easy access to the motorway and rail networks as well as the
cathedral city of Exeter where all major facilities can be found. There are good public
transport links between Chagford and Exeter, Newton Abbot and Okehampton. Local
sporting facilities include clubs for cricket, football, bowls, tennis and a seasonal
open-air swimming pool as well as a golf course nearby at Bovey Castle.
