The world is getting
smarter.
The advancement of communication
technology enables a smarter city grid for
our future.

Advances in technology are
bringing us closer together.
The global community is collaborating like
never before.
Embracing the new Era of Energy - Schneider electric eaSt Mediterranean COMPANY PROFILE 2014
In 2012, over 9.8 billion devices connected to
the internet and more than 1.2 billion people
engaged in social networking sights.

Our cities are growing.

more attractive, more
sustainable and provide a
higher quality of life.

But as cities grow, they
create a heavy demand,
on infrastructure, housing and transportation.
Additionally, they face the challenges of
providing clean water and energy
to a larger populace.
Success comes at a price.
     Urban Populations will double
     to 6.4 billion by 2050.

The new economies are no longer untapped
growth engines, but rather major players in a highly
competitive landscape.
By 2025, 66% of the top 600 global cities
are expected to be in emerging economies.
The rise of emerging
economies is prompting
a worldwide shift in
energy consumption.
In 2000, new economies accounted for 5%
of the global IPO and grew to 60% in 2010.
(1100% increase)

They account for 50% of the global
GDP growing to 65% by 2015.
Global energy consumption
continues to grow with
no signs of slowing down.
What drives this demand?

Industrialisation Digitisation Urbanisation
The world will spend more
money on energy in the
next 40 years than it has in
the previous 400.
The growing cost of energy

The surge in
demand

The higher capital
and system cost of
renewable energy

The increasing prices
of primary energy
But
the mismanagement
of our resources
leads to a higher cost.
Peak Demand Pollution

Underutilised Generation Traffic Conges
Climate Disorder

stion Water Scarcity
How can we ensure
we won’t cook the planet?
Right now, there are
two schools of thought.
Consume Green
Change your energy mix by utilising
renewable resource fuels to replace fossil
fuels whenever possible.
Consume Low Carbon
High carbon fuels should be replaced with
lower carbon fuels such as shale gas.
Neither approach will
keep pace with the
growing demand.
We need to eliminate every element of
waste and reduce demand, while improving
profitability and resource productivity.

We believe conservation efforts should build
a route to a secure energy future.
We need to build a new
Energy Efficiency
paradigm.
The economic growth
is decoupled from rising
energy consumption.

   Success Growth
Rising energy consumption
Think about it.
What if your multi-billion dollar investment
towards a new power plant was premature?

What if the gas extraction field you started
to build wasn’t necessary?
According to the IEA: 230 GW of coal-fired
and 120 GW of gas- fired power plants could
go offline worldwide by 2035 if proper energy
efficiency programs are put into place.
Think about it.
What if digitisation no longer focuses on
optimising business communications but aims
to maximise capacity and minimise energy
consumption?
According to Microsoft: Cloud solutions can
reduce power consumption by 40% and
carbon emissions from 30-90% when
compared to on-premise applications.
Think about it.
What if investing in smart infrastructure helped
minimise consumption and reduce waste to
create a cleaner planet?
According to an EPRI study: Smart grid could prevent nearly
4% of global emissions by 2020 and could reduce CO2
emissions by 60 to 211 million metric tons by 2030.
The Energy Efficiency is about
achieving more while using less
of our common planet.
By utilising smart solutions,
we create a more sustainable
world.
The Energy Efficiency
is dominated by:
negawatts, not megawatts,
Opex optimisation
and low Capex investment.
Negawatts Capex investment
Efficiency
Economy Opex Optimisation Deleveraged debt
The new Energy Efficiency
paradigm unites the worlds
of IT and energy
To link and manage all elements of the smart
grid, delivering the greenest energy at the
cheapest price and the desired time.
As The Global Specialist
in Energy ManagementTM,
Schneider Electric
makes Energy Efficiency
a reality, today.
At Schneider Electric,
we believe it’s time to save.
By implementing the right systems and services,
we reduce energy consumption, cost per kWh
and drive down the cost of doing business.
We believe it’s time
to produce locally.
Site-level renewables help citizens and
businesses become self-sufficient pro-sumers
via net zero or net positive buildings.
We believe it’s time
to connect.
We access smart, real time data and
information, optimised & delivered across
integrated systems though open platforms.
We believe it’s time to share.
Shave, shift and share capacity across the smart
grid to reduce your CO2 footprint and provide
higher ROI on Capex and Opex by imroving site
performance.
We believe it’s time
to integrate.
All energy systems become a fully connected
smart city grid operating in a cohesive, multi-
modal system.
From smart devices through
customers with services,
to big data, we provide our
systems and technology to:
Reduce energy Reduce cost per Reduce CO2

We deliver...
Real-time data across open, integrated
platforms via our most advanced devices.
This allows businesses to understand, control,
share and shift their energy consumption.
We enable...
Businesses to act upon decisions at all levels,
freeing up energy capacity while driving down
consumption, cost and waste.
From plant to plug,
our innovative solutions reduce consumption
and optimise performance, bringing together
a pool of consumers from different sectors to
balance out the load on the grid.
At home, we create
comfortable, efficient and
automated living spaces.
For businesses, we reduce
data lifecycle cost and
improve productivity with
greater asset security and
employee comfort.

In July 2010, Schneider Electric signed a two-year partnership deal with the French
association IECD (Institut Européen de Coopération et de Développement) with the aim
of facilitating the integration of young people into the world of work and into society in
Lebanon, by supporting the electrical engineering training program. This deal has been
renewed until 2015. Schneider Electric offers financial support and its technical expertise to
10 vocational schools with specific needs to strengthen their electrical engineering program

Carbon Trust Standards
SCHNEIDER ELECTRIC EASTMED (SEEM) is addressing its greenhouse gas (GHG) footprint
in compliance with Schneider Electric worldwide target in reducing its GHG emissions. SEEM
conducted its GHG audit using V4 Advisors’ internationally recognized online tool that is
based on the GHG Protocol; This Protocol was developed by the World Resources Institute
(WRI) and the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD).

Schneider Electric is classified in the low emissions sector by the Carbon Disclosure Project,
the Group has defined measures to reduce its carbon emissions. SEEM conducted a carbon
footprint on scopes 1, 2 and 3, covering even our downstream distribution chain; thus,
supporting the company’s drive in promoting sustainable development, as recommended in
the Manifesto issued by the WBCSD, for Energy efficiency in building.
The effort reflects also Schneider Electric’s responsibility in promoting sustainable
drives taking place in Lebanon as a part of social responsibilities.
