Looking for an exciting new team building opportunity?
Would you like a fun way to support your local hospice?

If the answer is yes - Entries are now open for our annual Dragon Boat Race in Stratford-upon-
Avon. We are looking for adventurous participants/teams/companies to take part in this fun-
filled, adrenaline pumping event.

What is Dragon Boat Racing?
Originating in ancient China, Dragon Boat Racing is now the fastest growing water sport in the
world and a favourite among charities and corporations for its fundraising and team-building
benefits.

The dragon boats are 40ft long Chinese war canoes. Up to 8 pairs of paddlers and 1 drummer
make up the team, with a qualified helm from Dragon Boat Events Ltd controlling and steering
the boat from a standing platform. The races will run throughout the day over a short course of
around 250 metres.

Each race is timed, and every team is guaranteed (weather permitting) 3 timed races during
the day, with races starting at 10.00am. The team’s single best time over all 3 of those races is
then used for qualification into the final round using all the available dragon boats in one last
race.

Following the final, medals will be awarded to the top 3 teams placed and the winning team
will receive a trophy and be crowned The Shakespeare Hospice’s Dragon Boat Champions
2022.

No experience is required - teams will have crew briefings and training and all equipment is
supplied including life jackets.

Each team will compete in a minimum of 3 races and are aiming to set the fastest time each
round.

About The Shakespeare Hospice
We are an award-winning Hospice providing outstanding palliative and end-of-life care for our
patients, their families and carers across South Warwickshire.

We offer a diverse range of community-based services including Hospice at Home & Day
Hospice (Adult Community Care), Adult Counselling, Children’s and Family Support Services
and Transitional Care Services. Our expert care is available not just to our patients but also
their families, loved ones and those who matter the most to them.

Our Dragon Boat Race is our annual flagship fundraising event that brings local businesses
and our community supporters together in a fun filled day. In 2021 the event raised £xxx for the
Hospice, we hope to beat that this year!

Who can take part?
Participants must be at least 12 years of age and a confident swimmer in cold water
conditions. Dragon boat racing is a fully inclusive sport regardless of gender, ability, fitness, or
experience. Absolutely no previous experience is required as all instructions will be given on
the day.

You’ll need 12-17 team members to take part and a couple of reserves for on the day.

Sponsorship and deposits
We ask that each Dragon Boat Race team raises a minimum of £1,000 for the Hospice. This is
approximately £50 per team member. You can do this by setting up a Just Giving page for your
team and sharing it with your family, friends and colleagues.

We take a deposit of £250 (or £100 early bird offer if you register in March 2022) to secure your
boat when you register your team. This goes towards your £1,000 fundraising target.

Find out how to pay your deposit on the registration form at the end of this pack. If you’re
racing as part of a business or organisation you can choose to pay the full amount (£1,000) at
the time of booking.

How can I register a team?
Please complete and return the registration form at the end of this pack as soon as possible
but no later than 31st July. We won’t ask for all your team members names just yet but you’ll
need to pick a Team Name (puns are encouraged!) and pay your deposit to secure your boat.

If you find you can’t get a full team together, please contact us as we are happy to put groups
together so you can still take part in all the fun.

Pre-event information with more information about the day will be sent 5 weeks before the
event.
