Our favourite places.... Waimarama BeachKia Ora,
How great was that extra-long weekend??? And
that weather, stunning weekend! I love how
Hawke's Bay was clever enough to tack on our
Anniversary day to Labour weekend. Now we just
have the run down to Christmas, only 65 sleeps to
go, but who's counting ;-)
Don't forget to check out who in our team at DRC team loves
Waimarama.
Please feel free to email in a photo of your favourite local spot,
remember to tell us why is special to you.

A positive COVID story in the form of a
magical fairy tale for everyone
"Children don't always understand everything when we just tell
them, stories and books are ways to help them understand the stuff
happening around them better, and to see the good, not just the bits
that were maybe frightening during lockdown."Paper Plus Stratford owner-operator Margie Hodgetts says the book
has a powerful message she thinks every child should hear,
especially about COVID.

Team Updates
Turning Point - Community Participation
Turning Point continues to provide a service assisting people with
disabilities to be valued contributors to their community, helping
them to have the confidence, skills and support of their families and
friends to reach their potential. Our Friday gym group were fortunate
to receive a grant from the annual Barry Whelan Scholarship. This
grant allows the group to train under the guidance of Natalie at
Complex Forme every Friday morning during term time. This week
the DRC Sunday Superhero is Kiel from Turning Point - you can
read Kiel's Facebook story here
Turning Point - Transition
It's that time to start thinking about 2021 for those ORS students
who will be leaving school. Our transition team is happy to come
out and visit your school to share how we can continue to support
you on your life adventure. Please call us on 06 873 8210 to
arrange a time for a chat, either at your school or here at our centre.Network Personnel
The team is busy here creating and updating cv's, and supporting
clients in their job placements. Do you have a long-term disability
(six months or more) that is impacting your ability to find
employment? Perhaps we can help, give us a call on 06
8738210. We are always on the lookout for job
placement opportunities so if you are looking for that extra bit of
help, or know someone who is, please call us on 06 8738210.
Scopze
Last week our annual visit to the Hawkes Bay A&P show was
replaced by a visit to White Pine Bush, near Lake Tutira. The crew
all chipped in on Monday and helped make and bake a couple of
yummy slices to take. And instead of our usual Wednesday cooking
group, we packed up a fresh buns and yummy fillings and headed
away to enjoy a picnic under the shade of the gorgeous kahikatea
trees. It was a truly perfect day indeed!
Last reminder, it's Boccia weekend in the
Bay! Hope to see you there.Liam from EIT recently let us know about a great new
initiative especially for anyone technologically
challenged.
Get Started IT is a beginner level IT course with a focus on one to one
learning, ages 16 and up are welcome and no previous IT knowledge is
required.
The course is not only focused on computers but also tablets and mobile
devices e.g phones. This course is focused around personal learning,
meaning if you only want to learn how to work your phone then that will be
the focus on your learning.
Show me where to sign up Liam :-)The training year goes from February to the end of November in a normal year so there is only the balance of October and November before Special Olympics finishes for the year. Ten pin and swimming are full at the moment and names would have to go onto a waiting list. However, there is room at Bocce, golf, football and basketball though. Any queries please let me know Kind Regards Margaret Margaret Baker Sports Co-ordinator Special Olympics Hawke’s Bay margaret.mary.baker@gmail.com 021 421249
