Faith Christian School (FCS)
                        2020-2021 Reopening School Plan
The objective of this plan is to provide information for our FCS re-opening of the 2020-
2021 school year. There may be additional information that will develop and be added
to this plan as the current national health situation changes. A level of flexibility will
exist in the implementation of this plan as some decisions may be made by the
Governor, especially related to the closure of schools or the move to have all schools
move to Remote Learning. Please remember that we are not putting together a plan to
please people but to honor God as this ministry has done for many years.

Please know that the basis for this plan includes information from many sources; other
schools (private and public) plans in NJ and other states, the CDC, American Academy
of Pediatrics, NJDOE, NJ Health Department, and the Association of Christian Schools
International (ACSI), the governor's plan for reopening schools. We believe this has
helped with a well balanced and reasonable plan.

We are preparing to offer our families two options for returning this fall.

Option 1 is in-person learning for their student(s) 5 days a week. Our survey
has indicated that approximately 35% of our families want to remote learn which will
keep our in-person numbers at or below classroom capacity even with socially distant
placement of desks. Elementary classrooms can hold about 14 desks placed 6 feet
apart and Middle School can hold about 15 desks at the appropriate 6 feet apart. We
have outlined more information below that will help guide and assist families in making
that decision. If the governor requires our school to Remote Learn at any point we will
all move to the stream teaching that we are using for our E-Learners. *We have also
added one Remote Learning day a month to continue to develop that aspect of our
regular program. We posted those days on the school calendar to allow families to
make arrangements.

Option 2 is Remote Learning with active real time live teaching done by our
teachers using our curriculum. This option will give families the ability to have their
child(ren) stay and learn at home. These students will be our FCS E-Learners. Some
information is provided at the end of this document so parents can get an idea of what
we expect to do with Remote Learning. This is not the same as our Remote Learning
that we did in the spring of 2020. If the governor requires our school to Remote Learn
at any point we will all move to the stream teaching that we are using for our E-
Learners. *We have also added one Remote Learning day a month to continue to
develop that aspect of our regular program. We posted those days on the school
calendar to allow families to make arrangements.

Please don’t hesitate to contact us with any questions regarding this information. We
have provided a survey link to share your questions or comments with us. We will
update a FAQ page and forward that to our families periodically.
A. General Guidelines for healthy hygiene practices for our school community.
         ● Any adult entering into the school building will be required to wear a mask
            before they enter.
         ● Hand sanitizer stations are located throughout the building for use by
everyone. Sanitize your hands before entering and exiting the building.
         ● Restrooms will be equipped with adequate supplies to support healthy
hygiene including hand sanitizer, paper towels, and tissues. Signs will be
posted to remind individuals of proper hand washing techniques.
         ● Everyone should minimize the amount of time you may have to be in the
building. Consider the business that you may have to take care of in the
building and leave via the office so we know you have left.
         ● Limit and be aware of the surfaces you touch to decrease the chance of
            spreading germs.
         ● We will limit visitor and parent access inside the building during our school
            day.

      Students:
         ● Should make every attempt to be responsible in practicing good hygiene
to help prevent the spread of all viruses and germs.
         ● Students must wash their hands before eating lunch, after activities such
as recess or physical education, and any other time the teacher deems
           necessary.
         ● Participate in daily temperature checks at home.
         ● Should tell their parents or teacher if they are feeling sick.
         ● Bring a mask to school to wear during times of transition throughout the
           school day.
         ● Try to maintain a certain amount of personal space with their friends,
           classmates and teachers.
         ● Avoid touching their face throughout the day.
         ● Should not share water bottles and other things that could spread germs.

      Staff:
         ● A copy of this document will be distributed to all faculty and staff prior to
the week of in-service for teachers in August.
         ● Faculty and staff will be trained on the implementation of this plan before
             starting school.
         ● PD days will allow future training for staff to address new and updated
             practices.
         ● Staff should take their own temperature check prior to coming to school
and report any health concerns to the Principal and school nurse.
         ● Teachers will be responsible for teaching and reinforcing hand washing,
covering coughs and sneezes, and refraining from touching their faces
with the students. This will be done on a daily basis. While we are not
looking to overwhelm our students, a common sense approach to
reminding students to practice good hygiene will be beneficial for all of our
     FCS school community.
   ● Teachers/Staff will disinfect shared areas in their classrooms during their
prep time and alert maintenance with any other common area cleaning
     concerns.
   ● As always teachers will direct any student health concerns to the school
     nurse.

Nurse:
  ● The nurse will monitor the health and well-being of our school community.
  ● In the event a student shows COVID-19 symptoms the nurse will remove
him from the classroom safely and respectfully to our Admissions Office
as a way to temporarily isolate him until parent pickup can be arranged.
The nurse and parents will continually monitor the students’ health for the
possibility of a COVID-19 case. If prolonged symptoms exist or continue,
the student will be required to stay home until released by a doctor.
  ● In the event a staff member shows COVID-19 symptoms they will be sent
home. The nurse and staff member will continually monitor his health for
the possibility of a COVID-19 case. If prolonged symptoms exist or
continue, the staff member will be required to stay home until released by
a doctor. In conjunction with school policy, students and staff should be
fever free, without the use of medications for 24 hours before returning to
     school.
  ● The nurse will contact the NJ Health Dept. in the event that there may be
a COVID case and then notify our school community of the same
possibility. HIPAA laws prevent the school from sharing any information
that may identify the individual who may have or is confirmed to have a
     positive test result.
  ● Staff or students who test positive for COVID-19, or any family member
living with them who tests positive for COVID-19, should notify the school
nurse and then should quarantine until they are cleared by a medical
     professional.

Parents:
   ● Parents should work with their child to encourage them to see the
importance of good hygiene including but not limited to: hand washing,
covering coughs and sneezes, and refraining from touching their faces.
This should be encouraged on a daily basis.
   ● On a daily basis parents should take the temperature of their child(ren) to
help avoid any exposure to other children.
   ● Parents should try to minimize “surprise” visits to the school. Please
contact the school office prior to visits.
   ● Parents are required to wear masks any time they enter into the school
building. Parents should let emergency contacts and or anyone who may
need to come into the building to adhere to those guidelines.
● Throughout the school year, parents should closely monitor their child’s
overall wellness and health. Parents are required to check their child's
temperature prior to leaving for school in the morning. A fever is identified
            as 100.4 or higher.
          ● PLEASE understand that overlooking what could be a developing spike in
temperature puts our entire school community at risk. Please err on the
side of caution when considering sending your child to school with an
            abnormal temperature.
          ● If contacted by the nurse because of a high temperature, parents must be
able to pick up their child within 30 minutes if the health concern is
            temperature related.
          ● Parents of preschool and kindergarten students, wearing masks or face
shields, will be permitted to accompany their child to their classroom
during the first week of school.
          ● Parents should contact the school nurse if their child develops COVID-19
symptoms so she can trace the potential exposure of other students in our
school. Families will agree to stay home when family members
            demonstrate COVID-19 symptoms.

B. Guidelines on the Use of Face Coverings-
Masks are meant to be preventative and not punishment.
         ● Masks should be solid color only with no messages. Masks with student
names on the outside are permitted. School lanyards will be provided to
            hold student facemasks.
         ● Place the mask comfortably on the face, fully covering your mouth and
            nose.
         ● Face coverings will not be mandatory for staff or students once they are
inside the building at FCS. If a student or staff member feels more
comfortable wearing a face covering, they may provide one for themselves
and wear it as they deem appropriate.
         ● Teachers will wear a mask when they are not able to social distance when
teaching. If they are working individually with a student or approach a
students’ desk they must wear a mask. Any time they transition
throughout the school masks must be worn.
         ● Students will wear a mask when they are not able to social distance in our
school. If they ask for help from their teacher or approach another student
approach they should wear a mask. Anytime they transition throughout
the school masks must be worn.
         ● Parents, visitors, and anyone who enters the school during a school day
are required to wear masks any time they enter into the school building.
Parents should let emergency contacts and or anyone who may need to
come into the building to adhere to those guidelines.

C. Maintenance- Procedures for cleaning, sanitizing, disinfecting Learning
Spaces and Other Areas Used by Students
● Frequently touched surfaces such as door handles and sink handles will
be cleaned and disinfected daily. Most 3 times a day.
A daily cleaning schedule will include: 1. high contact surfaces
being wiped by the classroom teacher when students exit class for
a special (art, music, PE, etc.) 2. high contact surfaces being wiped
by a maintenance person when students exit class for lunch/recess.
                    3. after 4pm classrooms will be cleaned by maintenance staff with
an electro-static cleaner. Once a classroom is cleaned like this the
classroom will be locked until the next morning.
          ● Windows will be opened when possible to ensure good ventilation and
            circulation of fresh air.
          ● Signs on how to stop the spread of COVID-19 will be posted in all
restrooms and other highly visible locations throughout the school. Kid
friendly pictures will be used for reminders.
          ● Hygiene items, such as soap, hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol,
paper towels, tissues, and no-touch trash cans will be available throughout
the school building for staff, students, and visitors.
          ● PED/RL days added to the school calendar to allow for deep cleaning (at
            least 2 per month).
          ● In the event of a positive test within the school building, a deep cleaning of
            the building will take place.
          ● Deeper cleaning days have been added to the calendar to allow (in most
cases) a 3 day weekend for maintenance to perform a more thorough
            cleaning of each classroom.

D. Classroom/Teaching Protocols for Student Desks/Seating/Dropoff/Pickup and
Other Social Distancing Practices
         ● AM- morning dropoff- we will increase the drop off area size.
PK-students can be taken directly to their classroom by parents
(wearing masks) through the main doors as normal.
K- students can be taken directly to their classroom by parents
(wearing masks) through the side door.
1st- 3rd grades will enter the cafeteria but will maintain safe social
distance through the main doors as normal.
4th- 8th grades will social distance outside with masks.
Rainy days students go directly to their classrooms using the main
                   doors.
         ● PM- after school pickup- we will increase the pick-up area size.
         ● During the day pickup- will be done through the office. The office will
escort students when possible to the door for parent pickup.
         ● Volunteers must be pre-approved through the office and wear a mask
            upon entering the building.
         ● Classrooms & restrooms will be equipped with adequate supplies to
support healthy hygiene including hand sanitizer, paper towels, and
            tissues.
● Seating arrangement in the classroom will be spaced the maximum
distance possible (6 feet when feasible), taking into consideration the size
of the room and the number of seats/desks needed.
● When feasible, student desks will be faced the same direction.
● Stagger bell schedules and redirect traffic patterns to minimize the number
of students in hallways at any one time.
● MS students will primarily stay in one classroom for learning. The
teachers will move from room to room allowing us to limit crossover
among students. When students will move into other classrooms they will
be cleaned and wiped before the next class can enter. Where possible
the element of time will be used to create a natural break to lessen
   transmission risk.
● We will mark floor spaces for social distancing in hallways.
● We will make an outdoor learning space available.
● MS lockers will be cleaned 2 times daily. We will stagger times so
students are not at lockers at the same time.
● We will set up some learning desks with booth protectors.
● Classroom seating arrangements will be made with mask preference in
   mind.
Procedures for pre-care and aftercare:
● The number of students will be limited to minimize exposure potential.
● Pre-care students, those who come to school before 8 AM, will be
   dropped off in the cafeteria.
● Whenever possible and weather permitting the aftercare students will use
the outside space to be able to spread out. The program instructors may
determine that students need to wear masks if we are not able to use the
   outdoor space.
● When in the building we will try to divide into multiple rooms for students to
   social distance.
● The same rules we have in place for the school day apply to pre-care and
   aftercare.

Procedures to Limit the Sharing of Materials among Students:
● Shared items will be cleaned and disinfected after each use.
● Individual student belongings will be kept separated from others’ in
individually labeled containers, cubicles, or other areas.
● Students should have their own pencil case with appropriate scissors,
crayons, glue sticks, etc. to be used when needed.

Protocols for Recess and Physical Education Classes:
● As much as possible, activities will be chosen that limit close physical
   proximity of students.
● Shared equipment will be sanitized after each use.
● Those not actively engaged in play should be placed an appropriate
distance from each other during recess and PE.
● At recess or during physical education classes, contact sports should be
            avoided.
          ● Encourage students to participate in touch-free activities such as jumping
rope, hula hoops, hopscotch, kicking a soccer ball (encourage footwork
only), running and other similar activities.
          ● Students will be kept in groups and assigned designated areas on the
            playground and/or fields.
          ● Limited use of playground equipment, with frequent sanitization. As more
information is made available on the effects of sunlight on COVID-19
and/or the survivability of the virus on surfaces, access to equipment will
            be reassessed.
          ● Masks will be worn by everyone during fire drills and emergency drills.

E. Procedures for the Use of the Cafeteria and Serving Meals
         ● A schedule will be developed to minimize the overall number of students
in the cafeteria at one time. Social distancing guidelines will be followed
with seating placement to diminish student contact.
         ● Students are encouraged to bring lunch from home with disposable
            containers, etc.
         ● The school menu will be limited to allow for faster prep and quicker meal
distribution by staff. Meals will be individually plated or bagged for easy
            disposal.
         ● Food and utensils are not to be shared between students.
         ● Cafeteria surfaces will be disinfected between each use.
         ● Social distancing markers on floor spaces.
         ● All snacks will be pre-ordered.
         ● Marked seating in the cafeteria (red seats and blue seats).

F. Field trips, awards ceremonies, sports teams, chapel, etc.
           ● As many school events as possible such as assemblies, plays, concerts,
back-to-school nights, etc. will be placed on hiatus or will be redesigned
for an on-line platform or other format until further notice.
           ● Guidelines will be reevaluated frequently to determine if and how to safely
go on field trips with students.
           ● Sports may be scheduled on a limited basis.
           ● There will be no field trips for the foreseeable future but we will review
periodically in hopes that we can get them scheduled.
           ● We will have chapel in some form with social distancing.

Remote Learning Plan for students (E-Learners) who may choose to work from
home with the guidance from a trusted family member.

          ● Families must request to take part in the Remote Learning plan and be
            accepted into that program.
● Once a student is accepted as an E-learner they cannot move to in-person
learning until the next marking period. This is to avoid movement back
            and forth.
          ● Families will take a survey to identify their at home resources. They must
have internet service (preferably high speed), they should have at least
one device with a camera to join in class interactions (can be borrowed
from school), printing and scanning capabilities, a quiet place without
            interruptions for learning.
          ● Attendance will be taken daily. Absences and lateness will be counted on
the student’s report card. E-Learners must sign in for their assigned
scheduled classes at all grade levels (ie.- a MS E-Learner has to sign in
prior to 8:40 to be on time for instruction.) Those who repeatedly show up
late may be subject to the late fee listed in our student handbook.
          ● Teachers will use a stream teaching service for live interactions with E-
            Learners daily.
          ● There will be a reduced rate of $1000 for E-Learners that do not
participate in specials (art, music, etc.)
          ● E-Learners who receive financial aid do not qualify for the reduced rate.
          ● Homework and class work must be submitted on the day it is assigned.
          ● PE will be required by all E-Learners. Parents will sign-off that PE
            requirements were met each week.
          ● E-Learners should carry themselves as though they are physically sitting
            in the classroom.
          ● E-learners will need to be ready to learn in the appropriate school attire.
PJ’s or other inappropriate attire will not be allowed.
          ● E-Learners will not be allowed to eat during their scheduled academic
            classes.
          ● Parents should monitor, as much as possible, all aspects of their child’s
day to make sure he is set up for a successful learning experience by
            adhering to the above guidelines.

This information is designed to help our families navigate through these tough times and
help in making their decision for school this fall. There may be additional information
that will develop and be added to this plan as the current national health situation
changes. A level of flexibility will exist in the implementation of this plan as some
decisions may be made closer to the up-coming school year. Again, remember that we
are not putting together a plan to please people but to honor God as this ministry has
done for many years.

The heart of man plans his way, but the LORD establishes his steps. Proverbs 16:9
