About the Academy

The FWAS is one of eleven regional academies of sport throughout NSW and provides athlete development
programs endorsed by State Sporting Organisations to junior athletes in the Far West region of NSW who
have been identified as having the potential to succeed at the elite level.

2015 Football Program Positions Available

Note: The FWAS reserves the right to combine or redefine any position depending on qualifications and
experience of individual applicants
 1 Position as FWAS Football Program Head Coach
 2 Positions as FWAS Football Program Assistant Coach
 1 Position of FWAS Football Program Manager

Your role with the Academy

   The role of Coach/Manager with the Far West Academy of Sport is a voluntary one. No relationship
    of employer / employee exists between the parties. However, an honorarium will be provided to
    offset expenses incurred in relation to the service provided by the Squad Manager. All appointments
    are honorary positions with reimbursement of expenses incurred in relation to the program paid on
    receipt of a tax invoice. Appointments will be made for a period of 6 months, successful applicants
    must pass child protection screening. The appointments are offered subject to satisfactory conduct
    and service.

What does it involve?

 Head Coach
       Selecting squad members in partnership with Football NSW selectors
       Planning and coordination of the annual program (In conjunction with the FWAS management
         and the state sporting organisation);
       Planning training programs and guiding athlete skill development;
       Providing support and advice to athletes in relation to skill development;
       Attendance and coaching at all Academy Squad residential camps, activities and events where
         applicable (approximately 8 commitments);
       Travelling to Academy events throughout the Far West (many of the training camps will be held
         in Warren/Nyngan however tournaments and tours may involve travel to other locations);
       Assist the team manager/s with supervision at all Academy Squad residential camps, activities
         and events (which may include overnight accommodation at these events);
       Assist in liaison with state bodies, regional organisations and clubs;
       Attendance at coaching development sessions/courses provided by Far West Academy of Sport;
       Reporting any concerns, complaints or incidents to the Executive Officer;
       Promoting and supporting the Academy aims and objectives;

Required Training Qualifications and Experience for Head Coach applicant:
       Appropriate coaching accreditation (experience or highest level available within region);
       Experience working as part of a small multi disciplined team delivery a sports program;
       Experience working as a development coach / co-ordinator;
       Strong communication skills; and
       Preparedness to work within the Academy guidelines and in partnership with Football NSW.

 Assistant Coach
       Assist the Head Coach at all Academy Squad residential camps, activities and events (including
         travel and overnight supervision of athletes)
       Conduct training days/camps in the absence of the Head Coach
       Support the Head Coach in providing guidance to athletes
       Assist in planning and delivering coaching sessions with a focus on the development of talented
         athletes
       Provide feedback and coach squad athletes at FWAS nominated tournaments
       Attend coaching education and development sessions provided by the Far West Academy of
         Sport
       Where required contribute to the planning of the annual program
       Where required, assist with the provision of transport for athletes to and from Academy events
       Assist in the liaison with Football NSW, Regional organisations and clubs
       Provide ongoing feedback to the FWAS Executive Officer and the Development Officer regarding
         the Academy program and activities
       Promote and support the Academy aims and objectives

 Squad Manager
     Assisting FWAS staff and Head Coach in the organisation of academy activities;
     Communicating with athletes to advise them of training information etc.
     Attendance and provision of supervision at Academy Squad residential camps, activities and
       events where applicable which may include the overnight accommodation at these events;
     Travelling to Academy events throughout the Far West (many of the training camps will be held in
       Warren/Nyngan however tournaments and tours may involve travel to other locations);
     Coordination of cost effective, nutritious meals for athletes at academy events (this may include
       purchasing, preparing and serving the meals as well as cleaning after the meal);
     Being responsible for the maintenance and presentation of representative game uniforms;
     Assisting coaches with scoring, athlete registrations, collecting team draws and other similar tasks
       at carnivals and tournaments;
     Where required contribute to the planning of the annual program;
     Assist in liaison with regional organisations and clubs;
     Provide reports and/or feedback to the Far West Academy of sport following residential camps,
       activities and events where required;
     Attend coaching development sessions/courses provided by Far West Academy of Sport where
       required/possible; and
     Promote and support the Academy aims and objectives

What you can expect from the Academy:

      Opportunities to attend development activities and gain accreditation free of charge or at subsidised
       rates where possible;
      Opportunities to work with, and learn from, experienced coaches and administrators;
      Administrative support from the Academy Athlete Program Coordinator;

   Regular communication via phone or email (to update you on state sporting organisation, academy
       and/or other regional news);
      Official FWAS Uniform;
      An honorarium to offset expenses that you incur throughout the program that are directly related to
       your involvement in the program;
      Reimbursement of expenses (purchase of equipment, postage etc.) where purchases have been
       approved by Academy staff and reimbursement has been agreed upon; and
      Opportunities to network with program staff from other regions.

Other Positions available:

The Academy is always looking for volunteers to support our athletes. If you would like to be involved but
don’t quite know how or don’t think you have the experience to be a coach, please contact us. We are often
in need of additional program staff and one-off helpers to assist with transport, supervision and other
relevant expertise that might help us create better pathways for our athletes.
