First Lady’s Report
by Lady Debby Griffith
First Lady’s project nearly complete!
Only through the remarkable generosity of our Clubs,
Units and Nobles and their Ladies can I say that my First
Lady’s project is almost completed, in only six months!
That means so much to me to know that you have
supported my project, to make Al Kader Temple a little
bit better. Every time you walk into Harrington Hall, you
can say “I helped buy those curtains” and be extremely
proud of that!
Not only did we have the funds to purchase the front
curtains, but we were also able to buy the drapes and
rods for the alcove areas, as well as drapes for the west
windows of Harrington Hall, giving it a completed look.
However, we are not quite done yet! After the painting
of the stage area, the rear red crushed velvet curtain
just doesn’t fit and so with six months to go and the re-
opening of our Temple, we are now working on replacing
those curtains.
The bid for the rear curtains is $4,250 and we already
have half of that. With that we will actively continue
selling raffle tickets for the two quilts at all of our
upcoming events, as well as displaying and selling the
Al Kader drink glasses. So there is still time to donate
towards the purchase of the rear curtains.
                                                                               FIRST

received for my project. Although it was not directly a
project related to the Hospital, it greatly benefits our
Temple and in turn allows us to help the Hospital. Thank
you so much. REPLACING

before, it is important for several reasons, but I think
the most important benefit is that you have pride

IS Ron Gamble, Noble Ralph Jubb and Noble
Roger Bishop & Lady Joanne for stepping up and
becoming our Hosts for our rentals. These are

our Temple, acting as liaisons between us and our
rentals. Thank you for your continued devotion to
your Temple.
To everyone who helped with the painting and
clean-up on May 15th. Your help was invaluable! A
special shout out to our new Nobles Manase Selma
and Frank Ehrmantraut with his Lady Caroline for
joining us and pitching in.

John Smith, Historian

Roberts, Andrew – Original Petitioner and Charter Member – 1st Divan

Taylor, Col. Christopher – Original Petitioner and Charter Member – 1st Divan

Ohio welcomed his birth in 1822. Little is known about his
education or life before 1847 when he crossed the plains with General
     Joel Palmer.
During the Cayuse War, he worked in the commissary
department. Afterwards, Taylor became a clerk for Pettygrove who, at
that time, owned the only store in Portland. In 1849, Taylor went to the
goldfields of California but soon returned to Oregon and settled in
Dayton where he opened a general merchandise store. Supposedly, he
was the “first Mason made” (west of the Rockies).
He played an important role in the organization of the Oregon
Militia, in 1864 he became Adjutant-General and was later promoted to
Major General. He was Grand Master of Masons in Oregon in 1889.
Taylor died in 1892 and is buried in Dayton, Or.

OREGON'S 68TH ANNUAL ALL-STAR FOOTBALL GAME
                                                   AUGUST 7th, 2021

Greetings from the East West Game Committee. I would like to report that the game is A GO for 2021. It
will be played on Saturday Aug 7th at Bulldog Stadium in Baker City, with kick off at 7PM. Last years game
had to be canceled due to the pandemic. We are planning an in person meeting on June 19th at Lyon Lodge
No. 29 in Independence, Or. Start time of the meeting will be 10 AM.

The names of the players who have been nominated to play in this game are now with the coaches for final
selection. After the selection is completed the players picked will be notified along with the necessary paper
work to accept this honor. When the selection process is done, Noble Zack Steel, 1st chair and manager of
players personnel will make the announcement, hopefully, by the June 19th meeting.

There was one nomination for the East Team Game Queen in 2020 and was accepted by the committee. She
has volunteered to again be the East Queen and we are awaiting approval from the Shrine Hospital. The
Hospital is working on finding candidates for the West Queen. We are looking for a Queen’s Mom (chaperone).
If anyone has an interest in being involved with the game please make your interest known to the committee.

The East West Game Committee is looking for volunteers to become involved with the Game. There is always
work that needs to be done. From securing Roses for the Queens, helping take bids at the footballs and steer
auctions, help man ticket will call tables, locker room clean up, sell programs, stadium clean up and etc, etc, etc.

There is one item we all need to do. Raise funds to pay for the game. Everyone is encouraged to make a one
time donation to the game. Timing and the current climate in the small business world has made selling adds
and producing a program very difficult this year. This has been a major portion of the money used to stage this
great game. Please, please, please DONATE , thank you, thank you, thank you.

Gib Thonstad,

Chairman, East West Game Committee
