* CALL TO WORSHIP Psalm 84
Leader: How lovely is your dwelling place, O Lord of
                  hosts!
People: My soul longs, indeed it faints for the courts
                     of the Lord;
Leader: My heart and my flesh sing for joy to the living
                     God.
People: Happy are those who live in your house,
                     ever singing your praise.
Leader: For the Lord God is a sun and shield; he bestows
favor and honor. No good thing does the Lord
withhold from those who walk uprightly.
People: O Lord of hosts, happy is everyone who
                     trusts in you.

I believe in God the Father Almighty, maker of heaven
and earth; and in Jesus Christ His only Son our Lord: who
was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and
buried; the third day He rose from the dead; He ascended
into heaven, and sitteth at the right hand of God the
Father Almighty; from thence He shall come to judge the
quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy
catholic* church, the communion of saints, the
forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the
        life everlasting. Amen.

PASTORAL PRAYER

THE LORD’S PRAYER
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy
kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses
as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not
into temptation, but deliver us from evil, for Thine is the
kingdom and the power and the glory forever.
                             Amen.

CHORAL RESPONSE Randy Edwards
Search Me, Lord, and Know My Heart
Search me, Lord, and know my heart
                        And try my anxious thinking.
See each hurtful way in me
And lead me in Thy way.

OFFERTORY How I Trust Him Mark Hayes
                           Sarah Michel, soloist

        'Tis so sweet to trust in Jesus, just to take Him at His word;
Just to rest upon His promise, just to know, "Thus saith the Lord."
Jesus, Jesus, how I trust Him! How I've proved Him o'er and o'er!
Jesus, Jesus, precious Jesus, O for grace to trust Him more!
      I'm so glad I learned to trust Him, precious Jesus, Savior, Friend;
And I know that He is with me, will be with me to the end.
Jesus, Jesus, how I trust Him! How I've proved Him o'er and o'er!
Jesus, Jesus, precious Jesus, O for grace to trust Him more!
He hideth my soul in the cleft of the rock
That shadows a dry, thirsty land.
He hideth my life in the depths of His love
And covers me there with His hand.
A wonderful Savior is Jesus, my Lord,
                         A wonderful Savior to me.
He hideth my soul in the cleft of the rock,
Where rivers of pleasure I see.
He hideth my soul in the cleft of the rock
That shadows a dry, thirsty land.
He hideth my life in the depths of His love
And covers me there with His hand.

Offering boxes are available in the narthex and at the

            Praise Him above ye heavenly host;
Praise Father, Son and Holy Ghost. Amen.

 ANTHEM Midnight Cry Carol Cymbala
                          Darian Sanders, soloist
                         Casey DeMattina, drums
                          Paul Reich, bass guitar

I hear the sound of a mighty rushing wind.
And it's closer now than its ever been.
I can almost hear the trumpet, as Gabriel sounds the call,
And at the midnight cry we'll be going home.

I look around me, I see prophecies fulfilled.
The signs of the times, they're appearing ev'rywhere.
Oh, I can almost see the Father, as He says, "Son, go get my children."
And at the midnight cry, the Bride of Christ will rise.

When Jesus steps out on a cloud to call God's children
The dead in Christ shall rise to meet Him in the air.
And then those that remain shall be quickly changed,
And at the midnight cry, we'll be going home!

SERMON Welcome Home: Lord, to whom can we go?

Welcome to Downtown, one of 3 worshiping communities of First
United Methodist Church Lexington. Whether this is your first Sunday
here or your hundredth, it is no accident that we are here together
today. If you are visiting Lexington, we are so glad to be part of your
time in the bluegrass. If you are new to the area and looking for a
church home, please let a greeter or member of staff know if you have
questions. Our pastors would love the chance to have a conversation
and get to know you better.

Activities based on 1 Kings 8:(1, 6, 10-11), 22-30, 41-43, Psalm 84, Ephesians 6:10-20.
Ephesians 6 describes the “armor of God.” These
are things that protect us and help us live the lives of
justice, kindness, and mercy God wants for us. Draw
a picture of you wearing the belt of truth, shoes of
peace, and carrying a shield of faith. How does this
make you feel?
Psalm 84 describes how God lovingly provides a
home in God's close presence for all creation,
including nests for the sparrows. Connect the dots
of the nest. Inside, write or draw a way you feel
God's nearness.
Be strong in the Lord
and in the strength of his power.
                     ~ Ephesians 6:10
