Coronavirus Communication

As you may have heard, the Center for Disease Control (CDC) issued a warning that incidences
of coronavirus (COVID-19) might increase in the coming days and weeks. Although there is no
immediate threat, we understand that schools and families should be prepared in case schools
need to close due to the spread of the virus.

We are in the process of discussing our procedures and developing our plans if schools have to
close for a period of time. We expect that the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE), the CDC,
and the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) will have guidance, and we will keep you
updated.

In the meantime, we are sharing pertinent information on our website
(http://www.d46.org/health/covid19.asp), including information about Influenza A and Influenza
B, and we will alert you as more information is provided. As always, the health and safety of our
students, staff, and community is of utmost importance to our school district.

Sincerely,

Dr. Lynn Glickman
Superintendent
CCSD 46

Atentamente,

Dra. Lynn Glickman

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Students in grades 5 and 8 will begin taking the Illinois Science Assessment (ISA) March 2nd
and will complete them by March 19, 2020. The ISA aligns with our new Illinois Learning
Standards in science. This assessment helps families understand how well students are
performing academically and see whether they are on track to succeed in college. The ISA
represents Illinois’ commitment to preparing all students for college and careers, including in the
high-demand science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields. The assessment
also satisfies federal accountability requirements.

The ISA is designed to reflect classroom experiences. Many students who took the assessment
last year said the ISA seemed more like instruction than a test. Students do not simply select an
answer and fill in the bubble of a multiple-choice test. Rather, the ISA pushes students to apply
their knowledge when they give answers, thus better preparing them for higher education and a
career. All students deserve the opportunity to demonstrate what they know; they get to see how
knowledge is applied to real-life situations.

The ISA has three sections and is untimed. The average student time-on-task is estimated at 120
minutes for the three sections. The results provide administrators with important data to help
them make broad curriculum decisions at the school and district levels. But classroom educators
will not use the results to make teaching adjustments year-to-year for individual students.

We encourage you to talk with your children about the importance of doing their best on the ISA,
while communicating that the assessment yields only one piece of information about them and
their school’s progress. Students’ attendance, classroom work, homework, projects, performance
on local tests, participation in sports and extracurricular activities, and contributions to the
school’s climate and culture all help them grow and learn.

We all work together to ensure Illinois students build a cohesive understanding of science over
time. Thank you for your role in developing lifelong learners and successful citizens.

Please do not hesitate to contact your child’s teacher or building principal if you have any
additional questions.

Sincerely,

 Paul Louis Amanda Woodruff

Estimados padres y tutores legales,

preguntas.

Atentamente,

Paul Louis Amanda Woodruff

                                            Oasis Music Grant
The Foundation46 board of directors is honored to have been selected by the Oasis board to receive a
$2,500 grant to support District 46 music programming. Music teachers and/or directors are invited to
submit grant applications by April 1 proposing how these funds would best be used. Funds will be
awarded in May and presented in honor of Greg Henkin at District 46’s opening day in August. Greg
Henkin is a Grayslake Central High School alumnus and local guitar teacher. Over the years, Greg
volunteered for the Oasis board and coordinated concerts and music initiatives at the Oasis Youth
Center. We are so pleased to take part in honoring such a valuable member of our community.

Foundation46 needs you! Our team works together to raise funds so we can award grants to our most
innovative and dedicated teachers. We've had an increase in the volume of grant applications received,
which means we need to step up our game with your help. We plan events, promote community
awareness of the Foundation, encourage donations from businesses both big and small, and review and
approve grant applications from District 46 staff. Email us at foundation46board@gmail.com to talk with
one of our members to learn more. It doesn’t take a lot of work from any one person if we have many
people who each help a little!
