                                          weekend!

Please choose the activities which you feel are most appropriate for your child- Reception can
try the Year One challenges and vice versa!
If you need any help or advice at all, please send us a message on Class Dojo and we will get
back to you as soon as possible.

                                    Have a great day!

A Day in Reception/Year One...
During an ordinary day in our classes, we will cover the following subjects:

Maths- Focusing on one topic for at least a week
Phonics – learning to read and write
Literacy/Topic- Learning about a special story or certain reading/writing skills
We also like to have a story and a wiggly dance!
We have included activities to link with these as much possible in the slides below,
to continue your child's learning whilst they are at home.
These are always broken up with lots of free-flow play, with opportunities to move,
create and explore- do try to avoid extended periods sitting down at home
too! Please move through the different activities at your own pace :)

Phonics- Reception
How many of these Phase 2 sounds do you recognise?
Phonics- Reception
How many of these Phase 3 sounds do you recognise?
Phonics- Reception
How many tricky words can you recognise?
Phonics Challenge- Reception
Use your sounds to write a word to match each picture!
Remember to sound out each word slowly - 'c – a – t '. Do use the sound mats
on the previous pages to help you!
Phonics- Year 1
                  How many of these
                  Phase 3 sounds do
                    you recognise?

                  Then take a look at
                  the Phase 5 sounds
                   on the next page
                         too.
Phonics- Year 1
             How many of these
            Phase 5 sounds do you
                  recognise?

           Can you draw a picture
           to match this sentence?

            The boy and the girl
            had tea on a cloud!
Phonics- Year 1
How many of these tricky words do you
recognise? Choose 2 or 3 new ones to
practise reading and writing this week!
Phonics Challenge- Year 1
Use your sounds to write a word to match each picture! One box represents one sound, and
a bigger box represents a digraph- e.g. s-p-ie-d would have 4 boxes. These all contain some of
the Phase 5 alternative spellings we have learnt so far. The sounds are hiding on this page!

Extra challenge: Can you write a silly sentence containing all three words?
Year 1 – Phonics Sentence Work
Write a sentence to match this picture. Try to remember to use spaces and a full stop. Can you
write another sentence about what happened next?
Check your writing!
Have you remembered…

• Capital letter at the start
• Finger spaces
• Listen to the sounds in each word
• Did you use any tricky words?
• Hold your pencil carefully
• Full stop at the end of each sentence
What to do if…
If your child is finding it hard to remember a sound, see if you can think of
some games to play using that sound. You could...

           ▪ Hide words containing the sound around your house.
▪ Write the sound on a sticky label and get your child to wear it! Keep asking
                           them what sound it is.
▪ Display the sound everywhere around your house and keep pointing it out
                                to your child.
  ▪ Play a game on 'Phonics Play' eg. 'Buried Treasure' and use words which
                            focus on that sound.
