2. WELCOME

On behalf of the Asociación Argentina de Ultramaratonistas (Argentine Association of
Ultrarunners) I am very glad to welcome all athletes and delegations that will participate in
the 24H American Continental Championships at Termas de Rio Hondo.

For us, to host this first 24H Continental Championships in Argentina is both a great
opportunity and a privilege. It is a historic moment and we want to thank the International
Association of Ultrarunners-IAU for the confidence placed on us and the authorities of
Santiago del Estero for their support.

The history of ultramarathon in Argentina begins in the ‘80s. Since then, the sport has kept
growing and now hundreds of local athletes take part in several local races and national
Championships. We have been participating in different IAU World Championships since
2004 and now we have the opportunity to organize an IAU Continental Championships
and, for us, it is enormous responsibility.

The Ultramaratón de Termas de Rio Hondo is one of the best national ultramarathon events
and we hope all athletes, staff and supporters will have a great experience and enjoy their
days in the touristic city of Termas.

To all the ultrarunners who will participate in this event: Welcome and may you have a
great race!

13. IAU TECHNICAL EDUCATION COURSE

One of IAU’s main objectives is to promote and develop long distance running
worldwide by encouraging specific activities in each of the IAAF Continental Areas.
At the same time IAU is trying to give back to our ultra-running community as much
as possible. This is why the IAU Technical Committee launched the Technical
Education in 2019.

It is a great opportunity to share their expert experience and give others the chance
to become an “IAU Technical Delegate”. All technical Delegates need to have been
trained as technical officials in their own country up to national standard (i.e. race
referee/judge for national championships) or Race Directors with experience in IAU
Label Races

The date: May 14th 2020 (in Spanish).

If you are interested in participating in the course, please send an email to
fabian.campanini@iau-ultramarathon.org and aausec@yahoo.com.ar

15. TOURIST INFORMATION
Termas de Río Hondo is the most important spa-city of Argentina and is situated
on the banks of Río Dulce (Sweet River) in Santiago del Estero Province. It
provides the tourist with services that grant the possibility of enjoying a new
conception of tourism that combines health, pleasure and relax.

The climate is subtropical hot and dry with scalding summers (38º C) and mild
winters (15º C) registering an average annual temperature of 21º C.

In order to get to the region, one can do it by plane or by bus or car through Nº 9
National Route. Termas de Río Hondo is 76 km away from the Capital City of the
province. The high season goes from April to October.

The city is settled on hundreds of underground sheets of water which are very rich
in minerals and salts and which are one of the most important therapeutic methods
in the world.

The water classified as alkaline, bicarbonate, chloro-sulphating and ferruginous
has low quantities of iron, sodium, phosphorus, iodine, arsenic, fluorine and
bromine in an ionic state -charged with electricity- being of a great penetration and
diffusion in the whole body.

Many excursions can be carried out in Termas de Río Hondo or the surroundings.
Water sports, fishing in Lago Embalse Frontal Dam, playing golf in the Municipal
Field, horse-riding and agro-tourism are some of the optional activities apart from
the thermal baths in the city.

Tourist can visit Nuestra Señora del Perpetuo Socorro Church built in 1945, the
colonial Town Hall, General San Martín Cultural Center, "Rincón de Atacama" and
the Paleontologic Museum, or come across a great variety of authocthonous
products made by genuine craftsmen.

If one is thinking of water, health and healthy life, one is positively thinking of
Termas de Río Hondo.
