1.5 points- standing back tuck
2 points- Anything above a tuck (standing full/advanced tricks)

Running Tumbling:
0.5 point- round off
1 point- round off handspring or round off handspring series
1.5 points- round off tuck and tuck combos
2 points- layouts, pikes, running full twist & advanced full combos

                                        F.A.Q
1. Does it help or hurt to try-out for both football and basketball?
A: I strongly encourage you to try-out for both teams. Football and basketball are
judged separately, so trying out for more than one team can help your chances of
making a squad. However, if you are only able to try-out for one it doesn’t necessarily
hurt your chances, you will just only be considered for that one team.

2. Do I get to see my scores at the end of try-outs?
A: No…actual numbers are not released to students. However, judges write individual
strengths and areas for improvement on your score sheet, and those will be kept until a
few days after try-outs. These can be given if asked.

3. How do I know if I made a team?
A: Results will be posted by 7:00pm on the last day of try-outs to our team Instagram
page. Please search @genoacheer to see the post. Team lists will also be given to the
athletic directors, and a text message/e-mail will be sent out to students/parents who
made the team.

4. Do I have to have tumbling to make a team?
A: No! There is no tumbling requirement to make a squad, however basic tumbling
does help increase your score a bit (see tumbling score sheet in packet).

5. Does Coach K have to fill all the spots available?
A: No, it is up to the coach to decide how many she will take per squad, and there is no
minimum. It all depends where there is a drop-off in scores.
***All athletes trying out for cheerleading are eligible to make both the basketball and
football squads. Cheerleaders with the highest overall scores, superior grades, and
outstanding sportsmanship, attitude, and skill, will be considered for both teams. All
cheerleaders trying out with be considered based on their preferences below,
which must be turned in during tryouts.

RULES OUTLINE:
● Up to (but not required) to 14 on football for both 7th and 8th
● Up to (but not required) to 9 on basketball for both 7th and 8th
● In the event of a “tie” in scores, we will have call backs to evaluate again

Before completely committing to trying out for Genoa cheerleading, please thoroughly
review all the rules, regulations, and guidelines before signing the final page. You, and
your parent/guardian’s signatures ensure that you fully understand the expectations and
standards that come with becoming a Genoa Cheerleader. The signed signature form
must be turned in on the first day of tryouts in order to be considered for the team.

The purpose of the GMS Cheer program is to promote school pride, unity, and leadership.
Cheerleaders are to demonstrate school spirit and support for our teams, coaches, and all
athletes. Genoa cheerleaders are expected to demonstrate excellent sportsmanship at all

checked)
• Zero- tolerance policy for profanity, bullying, drugs/alcohol (this includes social media/
references)
  • No negative attitudes and respect for everyone at all times

Practice Rules:
• Everyone must attend practices, one person’s absence disrupts the entire team

  • Missing practice for sickness, family emergencies, and academic obligations is
EXCUSED with a note

Based on the rules and regulations above, there has been a point system put into place to hold
                                  cheerleaders accountable.
                                 The system goes as follows:

Offense Punishments:
* 3 POINTS- SIT OUT HALF A GAME
* 5 POINTS- SIT OUT AN ENTIRE GAME
* 7 POINTS- ASKED TO LEAVE THE SQUAD

Offense Point Scale:
-1 point: unproductive at practice, tardy, negativity, profanity, unsportsmanlike conduct, etc.
-2 points: Unexcused absence
-3 points: (sit out half of game) No call/no show to practice, in trouble at school (cheating,
principal’s office) etc.
-5 points: (sit out whole game) Suspended, GPA requirement not met, drug/alcohol references,
no call/no show to a game

CHEERLEADERS AND PARENTS MUST HAVE THIS SIGNED SHEET COMPLETED
AND TURNED IN ON THE FIRST DAY OF TRY OUTS IN ORDER TO BE
CONSIDERED FOR A SPOT ON THE GENOA CHEERLEADING SQUAD

                           the Genoa Cheerleading Team.

***After reading the guidelines above, I agree to follow all rules and regulations that
come with the responsibility of being a Genoa Cheerleader, should I be selected to be
