                     INTRODUCTION
  International Federation of Red Cross Society
     IRFCS is an international volunteer’s organization meant for
humanitarian service. It is a non- government , non-religious,
non-political ,non–sectarian, organization established in the
year 1863 by Sir Jean Henry Dunant, based in Geneva, to
protect the victims of international & internal armed conflicts
including war wounded ,prisoners, refugees, civilians and other
combatants. It is one the most widely recognized and honored
organization, having received Nobel prize for peace thrice in
1917, 1944,&1963.

 Indian Red Cross Society: (IRCS 1920-IRCS ACT)
     Honorable president of India is the president of India is the
president and Honorable Union Health minister is the chairman
of the Indian Red Cross society. Headquarters - New Delhi.
     The IRCS in times of peace pursue a variety of activities
devoted to health, safety, and well being of the people, with
the best relationship, under-standing, and co-operation
between many governments and nations.

YOUTH RED CROSS (YRC):
    Youth Red Cross is a constituent of Indian Red cross society
(Karnataka): a group movement constituted for the students
between 18 to 25 age group at colleges & Universities.
The IRCS has launched the youth program in the year 2015.
The program has the following objectives:
Humanitarian principles and values :
1.protection of life & Human dignity
2. Promotion of Health and Hygiene.
3.promotion of peace and Harmony.
4.promotion of civic sense.
5.promotion of National and international integration.
Areas of Work :
1. promotion of Life & Dignity.
2.promotion of health and hygiene.
3.Service to sick and the suffering.
4.Disaster management
5.Relief work during emergency.

Youth Red Cross (YRC ) :
      our college has a YRC unit with Hundred volunteers from
all the disciplines and a Program officer.
Collaboration with : NSS , Rangers-Rowers , and NGO s.
Key Activities :
1.Training, workshop programs : First Aid / Health, Hygiene’
2.Life saving programs: Blood donation, Volunteer services
3.promotion of peace and Harmony .
4.promotion of Civic Sense /Responsibility

GOVERNMENT FIRST GRADE COLLEGE FOR WOMEN TUMKUR.
ORIENTATION PROGRAM:

To enhance the understanding about the principles of Youth
Red Cross and to strengthen the capacity of Youth Red Cross
wing , an orientation program had been conducted on
07/09/2019at college campus for hundred volunteers of YRC
under the guidance of Mr.Venugopal Krishna.The volunteers
are informed about the principles of YRC and they are also
enlightened about the role and responsibilities of
Volunteers .Through some examples they are encouraged to
contribute to the Humanitarian concern.
      Smt. Rekha ,the program Officer YRC GFGCWT in her talk
urged the students to work for the promotion of health and
hygiene,to foster safety and well being of the humanity.
Mr.J.Gangadhar, principal GFGCWT in his presidential
address ,educated the volunteers to develop the sense of
duty, dedication and devotion, to imbibe spirit of service and
humanitarian concern.

Fund Raising Activity :

 In accordance with the principle of Red Cross Society ,in the
area of Disaster management          During emergencies like
floods ,earth quake & other natural calamities ,so as to
encourage the volunteers to accept the responsibilities acting
accordingly with humanitarian concern to provide service to
the victims of floods , fund raising for relief work had been
planned by the YRC wing of GFGCWT.
A meeting of YRC committee had been convened and a
resolution had been passed to raise funds for the victims of
flood in Coorg (Karnataka). The committee members and

volunteers along with the principal and program officer raised
the funds from the collegers around Rs 15000/-.A cheque of rs
15000/- towards CM Flood Relief Fund had been handed over
to Tumkur DC at Dc office on 11/09/2019.
YUVAJANA AROGYA :

 Under the Guiding principle of Red cross in the area of Health
and hygiene a program called        Yuva jana Arogya had been
conducted on 00/00/2020 in the college campus in
collaboration with SIGNA Yuva Samvada kendra Tumkur ,a
youth organization (NGO).Gnana Sindu Swamy ,Secretary SYK in
her speech imparted the importance of health and hygiene
among youths. The SYK through an interaction session tried to
inculcate the principles of Healthy and Hygenic Practices among
the youths.
EYE Donation Awareness Camp:
Service to society is the Red Cross Society’s motto. To foster
the principle of the Red Cross society programs like Eye
Donation Awareness Camps play an important role. The
programs had been intended to bring about behavioral changes
among the volunteers towards the society in which we live.
An Eye Donation Awareness camp had been organized by YRC
wing of our college on 00/00/2019 in the campus for
volunteers. Dr, Dinesh Kumar Senior Eye Specialist Dist hospital
Tumkur Delivered a speech about healthy practices for the eye
care. He educated them about Eye Donation .He threw light on
the myths regarding Eye donation. He enlightened them about
noble deed of donating Eyes to those who are deprived of Eye
sight. Mr. Ravikumar counsellor,Eye Donation unit Dist Hospital
Tumkur ,issued applications to register names for eye donation.
Legal Awareness Program :
To foster the spirit of Civic sense through enriching the
mental and moral capabilities of the youths is one of the
principles of Red Cross society. In order to promote the spirit of
understanding so as to enable the youths to develop the best of
relationships, the programs like Legal Awareness camps are
very essential.
The YRC wing had organized legal Awareness program on
00/00/2020 at Balbhavan Tumkur. Sri .Ragavendra Shettigar,
Honorable senior grade judge & member secretary dist Legal
service Authority Tumkur,in his inagaural speech urged the
students to develop civic sense in all walks of life for the
smooth functioning of the society. Smt.Baby Advocate ,
Tumkur, delivered a special lecture on Fundamental
Rights&duties,Human Rocketing,Women Legal laws. In her
address with plenty of examples she threw light on the existing
conditions of women and the prevailing laws. It was really Brain
storming session for the students. Sri.Nataraj vicepresident Dist
Bar Associatio,Sri.K. Harish, Deputy Director Women & children
welfare Dept. Pro.K. Chandranna,President Scool Development
committee red Cross inspired the students . pro. J.Ganghadar
principal GFGCWT,Smt.Rekha Program officer.were present in
the program. The Program was a grand success.
Mask Distribution Activity : During the pandemic COVID -19, in
collaboration with Ranger unit of our college ,the Youth Red
Cross wing has under taken a small effort to foster the safety
and well being of the people in times of emergencies in the
area of disaster management .
To provide service to the society, with humanitarian concern , a
visit to old age Asylum is conducted and masks were
distributed to the inhabitants of the Home. Later the masks
were distributed to the vendors and peddlers at the road side
in the city of Tumkur. Some volunteers from our college
Rangers wing and Youth Red Cross wing accompanied the
program officers of both the wings.
CLEAN INDIA MISSION : Nirmal Bharath Abiyana is a major step
towards the protection of degrading environment . To attain
clean Nation the youth should show enthusiasm, to do best to
protect our environment is to adopt simple life style A program
has been organized to through light on the burning issue .
Mr.Manjunath Polluton control officer, Karnataka state
pollution control board Tumkur , in his speech stressed the
need of eco-friendly life for the conservation of the planet.
Pro.Gowrishankar SIT Tumkur also expressed his concern over
the environmental issues. The teaching and non-teaching
faculty of the college took active participation in the program.
 World Cancer Day : Youth Red Cross wing of GFGCWT had
organized a Cancer Awareness camp on 04/02/2021,in the
college premises for the volunteers of Youth Red Cross wing
and Rangers unit.
