Dear Parents/Carers

gymnastics teams taking part in the Chelmsford Schools Sports Partnership competition, children from
Osprey Class taking part in the Chelmsford Public Speaking Competition, Mole Class off for their resi-
dential trip to Flatford Mill, Robin Class Assembly and Owl Class participating in a Benchball tourna-

Calling all Cake Bakers - Annual Chocolate Cake Competition
We are holding our annual Chocolate Cake competition on Thursday 28th March. Children may bake
any type of chocolate cake – small, large, round, square! Please remember that we are a nut free
school. All cakes should be taken to the children’s class, where the children will vote for their favour-
ite top three and will receive a certificate. The winner of the top three from each class will then be
tasted by Sam and our School Learning Council – so that both the presentation and the taste are taken
into account. The winners will be announced in our Mothers’ Day Assembly on Friday 29th March. Fol-
lowing this assembly, all parents are invited to our coffee morning, where the cakes baked and tea/
coffee will be available for a small donation. Money raised from these cakes will go towards ‘Mind’ and
‘Kids Inspire’. All children will receive a cake/piece of cake as their treat at break on Friday 29 th March.
Many thanks, in anticipation, for lots of wonderful cakes!
Mothers’ Day Assembly and Coffee Morning
We look forward to seeing many parents and friends at our Mothers’ Day Assembly
next Friday, 29th March, at 8.50am. Children will be singing a number of songs and
the assembly will be led by our KS1 children who will celebrate the importance of
mums and other carers who look after our children so well. After the assembly, par-
ents are invited to our FOGLS coffee morning, where parents can sample the won-
derful cakes, made by children for our Chocolate Day competition, in the small hall.
Any donations from this event will be shared between ‘Kids inspire’ and ‘Mind’. We
hope you will be able to join us!
Rabbit Class Assembly
We do hope Rabbit class parents and carers can join us this Thursday 28th March for their
assembly.Volunteers Needed! Works to start the sensory garden are scheduled to take place during the Easter break 12th—15th April and if any parent is able to help with the ground works, please let Michelle know. We are hoping to have power for the water feature, so if there is an electrician out there who is able to install wiring in the garden area, again please let Michelle know.
Tag Rugby – Yr.2
‘On Monday we went to a KS1 tag rugby
competition in Writtle. There were 21 teams
and we came 5th. Everyone scored and we
won some of our matches. One game we
won 4-3. It was very fun and there were lots
of rules to remember like passing backwards
or passing the ball at the start of the match.’

Public Speaking competition - Yr. 4
On Wednesday this week 6 children from Osprey Class took part in a public
speaking competition against 9 other schools. The children argued that P.E.
should be taught everyday and gave some excellent reasons for why they be-
lieve this. Kai was the teams captain and got them off to a good start, whilst
Paige chaired the speeches and questions. Ruby delivered the speech and El-
liott answered questions from the opposing team. George and Emily also made
up the team, performing very
important speaking roles during
the day. Whilst the children did-
n't win, they did learn a lot from
the experience and performed
very well on the day. We may
see one of them in an important
public speaking role in the fu-
ture!Infant Music Festival Yr.2 ‘On Tuesday morning the whole of Year 2 went to the Infant Music Festival. I was full of excitement because we had to be at school by 8.10 which is much earlier than normal. When I got to my amazing school I had to get changed quickly so I wouldn't be late to get on the wonderful coach. Eventually the enormous coach ar- rived and I felt nervous because I didn't really know what we would be doing! The name of the beautiful church was Christ Church. How amazing it was! When we got off the coach we saw a lovely lady who took us to our dressing room. Miss Collins called the butterflies who were me, Cara and Ruby Rh because we needed to put our delicate wings on and then we had a wonderful photo. After that we did an exciting rehearsal. I was still nervous but I knew the lady would tell me what to do. I had to sit with all the other animals in the play. There were brown hedgehogs, beautiful peacocks, chattering birds and microscopic mice. The play was called the Sultan's Bath. The Sultan had to sit on a royal chair with a gold blanket. I had to come on stage during one of the songs called I'm sitting in my garden ad I had to flutter around gracefully with the other animals. When the lovely song ended I had to sit down carefully as I didn't want to trap my translucent wings.’ By Erin ‘How amazing the Infant Music Festival was! I was a singer and lots of other people were too. In total there were 5 schools at the festival. Henry, Oliver K and Kai played the glockenspiel. They all did very well and they looked very happy which made me happy. After our rehearsal Mummies and Daddies came to watch the performance. There were lots of them. It was amazing. Everyone cheered at the end and I felt very Jolly.’ By Tianna

First we drew circles and triangles to make pictures, I made an ice-cream picture. Next we use charcoal, we need- ed to draw round a shape then cut the middle out and this was our stencil. We used pencil and charcoal. My favourite was drawing a bowl of fruit. I liked using the oil pastels. It was a good day.’ RE ‘On Monday we went on an RE day at Little Waltham. In our first lesson we learnt about the Last Supper, Good Fri- day, Easter Sunday and Palm Sunday. The next lesson that we did was drawing and painting. We were all very messy. Finally we had a quiz to re-cap everything we learnt in the day. It was fun.’ By: Grace and Edward Maths ‘On Monday a few people from Owl class went to Gt. Waltham school for a whole day full of fun maths activities. First we started off by learning sequences then we did Buffons Needle to estimate pi which took several tries. We managed to find the ‘nth’ term in a sequence and the formula to go with it. Overall it was a great day and we learnt a lot!’ By: Rocco Brilliant Books ‘On 18th March Alex and Oliver went to a reading enrichment day at Newlands Spring. We described, drew and wrote about characters from different books and also learnt different types of reading. I enjoyed if and hope we get another opportunity to do this again.’ By Alex Spanish ‘On Thursday 21st March, Bailey and I went to a Spanish Day at St. Pius X school.
